And as much as I hate to admit it, the HALO games have brilliant soundtracks.
Seconded. Also up for consideration:
  • Ace Combat (series);
  • Project Sylpheed;
  • Total Annihilation; and
  • Supreme Commander

Definitely some nice soundtracks out there.

Personally one of my favourites was Wild Arms. Partly because I loved the game, but really did think the music was a high point of the game. Nice use of instruments and some good whistling which I enjoyed. Just think that you can't talk about the best in video games without giving the music from that classic a nod.

Especially liked "Into the Wilderness" and "Clash and a Promise."

Yeah, I love Ace Combat soundtracks, especially Ace Combat Zero.

Guilty Gear all the way. Hot blooded head banging \w/(>3<)\w/ goodness.

Some of my favorite themes:

N.E.X.T.: The midnight carnival (GG Reload Korean soundtrack)
Great Empress (GG Reload Korean soundtrack Milia's theme)
Keep Yourself Alive III (Sol's GG2 Overture soundtrack)
All Sol vs. Ky themes (aside from GG1 conclusion, Re-Coming and No Mercy are best ones IMO)
Still in the dark (Milia vs. Zato-1)

Knights of the Old Republic. Many of the battle-themes, though perfect when in the game, weren't really that much to listen to. But the calmer themes were a joy for the ear.

Manaan, Kashyyyk, and Dantooine. God I love Dantooine.

Any Final Fantasy game I've played has always had a excellent OST, well for me I ejoyed them

altho the song that stands out the most will be Liberi Fatali from the opening of Final Fantasy VIII(still my fav FF opening)just brilliant

Total Annihilation is one of my fav games of all time and had a awesome OST, fitting for the game.

also can't believe no one has mentioned Command and Conquer, first one that is. Now this OST is classic, Mechanical Man, Hell March, Full Stop! gets the blood pumping

I don't know... C&C certainly had a few awesome tracks, but aside from Hell March, the older games didn't really have anything that stuck.

Now Red Alert 3, that's a whole different story. The menu track is one that has you sway your head and sing along with a wide grin on your face, and the Empire of the Rising Sun tracks are really encouraging to smithe the infidels standing in the way of the might of the Empire.

The very first Final Fantasy game has some insanely catchy music.

"Chaos Temple" and "Underwater Temple" are constants in my humming repertoire.

Also, you gotta have love for the Sonic 2 soundtrack on the old blast processor. "Chemical Plant Zone" and "Metropolis Zone", simply epic...

God Hand is probably the most underrated ps2 game out there and the last game by Clover Studios (Viewtiful Joe and Okami). Think of it as a 3-dimensional beat 'em up done right.

Have to agree with those 2 tracks from Sonic 2 and add Hydrocity Act 2 from Sonic 3.

Lately, I've gotten into Bare Knuckle (Streets of Rage) since the release of the Bare Knuckle 3 translation. The first game has some really catchy music. I personally like Round 3. I really enjoy listening to music from the 8 & 16-bit eras.

Personally was fond of the following titles, and their respective song/s.

Chaos Legion (nearly the whole track was pretty damn impressive)
- Blood Remains
- Welcome to the Darkness
- Choir of Curses
- Massive Strokes

Armored Core 4
- "Overture" from 4
- "Sandy Blues" from 4
- "Someone is always moving on the surface" from 4A
- "Remembrance" from 4A

and pretty much every Ys song or soundtrack in existence.

Metal Gear Solid 2 - Theme song is epic and the rest is just as good.
Shadow of the Collosus - The music added to experience it really made the battles more epic.
Halo 3 - "Never forget" makes me reminisce about the past games.
Final Fantasy X/X-2 - FFX was solid all round with a great theme song. FFX-2 had some good and catchy pop songs, but 1000 words really did it for me(the English version is just as great as the Japanese version).
Lost Odyssey - Music in the story skits really adds to the words and all round pretty solid music.
Megaman 3 - Why I chose 3 over the other ones?, can't really put it in words. :O
