maybe he's really worried about the manga sales dropping if he leaves out the main guys for too long.

Two weeks isn't long...compare to BLEACH in FKT, or even Naruto during Sasuke's journey, that's what I'd call a long time without the MC around...I don't think Mashima lacks confidence though, I mean he just pulled a 7-year timeskip! Even if half the guild stays the same, the rest of the world is bound to have changed.

Rave Master failed some expectations in the second half of the season (anime), which failed to reach even third or so on.

7 year Time Skip except everyone in Tenrou Island = possible fillers to retain the anime.
Pseudo Time Skip since the powerful cast is time freeze is way original for shounen anime, compared to time skip of One Piece (2years), Naruto (2years), and Bleach (1year and 6months).

Mavis is very cute, I wonder if she's a human being before or a half human/half fairy.

I'm intrigued to hear what happened in the 7 years.

I mean there was just recently a new council put into place and also 2 of the Ballam alliance guilds were just destroyed.

Dark Guilds will be running amock trying to get their share of power. Wonder what Tartoros or Raven Tail will do about it.

Not to mention Fairy Tail has never been on Councils good side, I can see an event happening quick that could make them be a dark guild in eye of council.

I could care less that the main cast didn't age or power up in those 7 years. Also could care less about the secondary cast. They really aren't that interesting. The only couple I found decent where the two snipers and seemed like they got married so that's cool. Otherwise would hate to spend months watching these pathetic guys try and save the main cast.

Wow, that time skip was totally pointless. The main cast underwent absolutely no development and the story or general premise took no turn whatsoever. Instead this "power of friendship bs" that's almost worse than Kingdom Hearts happened, wow. Here I was hoping Mashima would change his ever repeating arc structure by a sudden timeskip that alters the character setup fundemantelly, but no.

You're right, I went a little overboard with that statement. However, the only thing different I can imagine is more and stronger enemies. This in turn makes me hope to finally see a little drama in the guild, because at some point, they just have to get stronger. Everyone lending their powers to Natsu for the final attack can't work forever . . . or can it?

Trying to give equal focus to too many characters is indeed worst than having a narrow cast, but between these last two chapters he had more than enough time to wisely use minor characters to change things up a bit AND it wouldn't have taken the focus from the main characters because not only were they "away" in the way that made sense but once they came back they were sure to take back the spotlight without any effort. I simply wanted these minor characters from the guild to be used a bit more, make themselves a bit more relevant before fading back into the background.

The problem is that these aren't even minor characters. All the major and minor characters were on the island. They're background characters, that were never intended to be more than one dimensional, the only characters that are flatter than them are the ones that got a profile but no lines and/or appearances.

He can develop them, but it would take quite a while, and in the mean time, they just simply can't effectively carry the story themselves for any real length of time.

I'm guessing the big time skip development will end up being to do with what's actually happened in those seven years. Shame there's been no change with the main Fairy Tail gang, but ah well.

I'm not hating on the time skip.

I hated Natsu's recent fights, in which he is a lightning/fire combo dragon slayer Mary Sue who makes Gildartz look like a complete idiot (F*** you Gildartz, I'm gonna charge straight at Hades and Acnologia and nobody is gonna get hurt).

I hated Cana KO'ing Lucy and leaving her to be killed, with still no explanation. "sorry for betraying you Lucy." Yeah, but WHY did you do it? There is still absolutely no explanation since Lucy was on her team.

I hated Erza being reduced to sex appeal against Azuma, and Azuma letting her win because he was obsessed with her.

I don't hate the time skip (yet) because we haven't seen what happened to the world in that time. Maybe it was necessary for future enemies to gain power. Granted, it could have been handled better (don't make the rest of the guild lose all their spirit the moment Natsu isn't there to hold their hand, and show us some of the changes in the world BEFORE everyone comes back immediately) but it's Mashima, you have to expect bad writing.
