453 bucks for 24 episodes of anime .. Why on earth is it that expensive .. Only hardcore collectors with a job would buy that. Paying nearly 20 bucks per episode is ... Way too much D:
I know it's not only Lucky Star that is this expensive but I still don't understand where the costs come from.

I thought about actually rewatching Lucky Star and seeing it in blu-ray would be amazing, but that is way over my budget.

This isn't the first time with english subtitles on a Blu-ray box by the way but it definitely is rare. I hope eventually we'll have all blu-ray releases with english subtitles on them .. There are so many fans of Anime all over the world that it makes no sense to keep all the good stuff to japanese only.

This is the market value in Japan (where enough customers will cough up this amount for their favorite series). If it sells well - after the sales tale off I wouldn't be surprised if a second edition was repriced without the swag and marketed in the US.

Wouldn't the market value change in America where there isn't as many consumers that buy for such a high price?

Yes, it would change dramatically. In the US, the same collection would probably sell for $60 or so. There's little inherent value to the product (just the physical media) - so it is worth only what the market will bear. Its one reason the industry in Japan frets a lot about "reverse importation".

Use Amazon... that 453 bucks will shrink down drastically... but still expensive...

It's the next anime Blu-Ray on my list (CLANNAD/Air/Kanon is still out of my reach).

I just got my Lucky Star box set from Amazon.jp today. It only cost $ 365 instead of 450 something like its going for in other places. I love it, and the quality is wonderful my only disappointment is there seems to be no english subtitles on the OVA or the extras but I can understand just enough to get by, so I'm not too annoyed.

I wouldn't say it failed especially given that this was a re-release so a lot of people already it on DVD and only some would rebuy BR.

She never thought she'd see the day she got to marry her lovely otaku gf in japan, so it's from happiness .

Yay posting in a retired board....Well it's a quick question, dunno if I'll get an answer after all this time....

Does anyone know why on earth the 6 final dvd volume of Lucky Star is so expensive? I bought the previous volumes for really cheap, but when it came to the final volume the price seems to have shot up to a crazy 70 bucks or even over 100 bucks and I REFUSE to pay that much for a single dvd.

I originally intended to just get the anime legends version but I heard it doesn't have the linear notes included...
