Hmm. That does make sense. The assessment of someone's "psychology" (do you have the mind [intent] of a killer?) could leave out simple impulses (the wish to hurt someone out of a sudden burst of anger etc.).

PSSSH xD
Better do that I guess

Wouldn't be surprised if he's the so-it-seems antagonist but turns out to be actually a good guy/anti hero or something

Anyone else noticed that "Psycho-Pass" is a pun on "Psychopath"? Which makes perfect sense, given the plot.

Anyway, so excited for this! With Urobutch on board, this is bound to be awesome and will totally make up for Guilty Crown (gawd, I still can't believe Production I.G. were behind that mess....)

Interesting for the Dominator
I expected that kind of concept !
So i'm happy, the design and the characters are just GREAT

I still hate the second girl above the hero , hope she will not be a main part ...

Anyway if urobutcher handles that concept well , we can expect very cool scenario like dangerous suspect avoiding easily the gun activation.

The hero reminds me in some way spike spiegel

Awesome!

I wonder how much they'll delve into the philosophies behind criminal activity and psychopathy. There is A LOT of room for debate and this sounds like the kind of anime that might divide people's opinion on that matter even further.

Does every psychopath become a criminal, and is every criminal a psychopath? Most people would say no, but I hope the writers behind this will start to make us question our own beliefs.

And the concept of 'pre-emptive justice' a la Minority Report is always fascinating. Is it fair to arrest someone before they have committed a crime, simply because they had the criminal intention? Ultimately, justice is about fairness, but law enforcement is about protecting innocent people, and as we all know, that sometimes requires being unjust. And how fair can you really be to someone who is intending to hurt another person, whether they manage to follow through with it or not?

AND, is there even such a thing as an "innocent person"? Hahaha, I could go on for days....

In the facts , it's stupid to arrest a person because he doesnt have any empathy and can be a potential danger for other or him
I met a lot of people presenting all those aspects of psychopathy , i 'll even say sociopathy (superior level)

You can't put a person into a lock-up because of that , that doesnt make any sense
A cure and mental rehability facilty would be appropriate for those kind of people

But for the anime it's a fiction and it's a future setting, i wonder how they'll handle this

I need to see minority report.

Have to say I'm getting an UN-GO dejavu - I really liked what I saw of UN-GO until the first animated footage came out and it was bland as shit. With Psycho-ass I really like the original character art but then the animu designs in magazines leave me cold.

Animated PV please.

The anime chara design look similar to the concept, minus Amano's yaoi makeup. (Well there's still a bit of it on there)

Iunno, in the original promo art they are all super stylish - they look super generic in the magz to me. Ishida's character being the worst transition. Very simplified. Well, it still could look different in the actual anime so hoping for a PV with some footage.

Sums up my thoughts pretty well. A few weeks ago, I actually told myself "hmm, I wonder how much of a hit the Reborn anime could've been if it actually adapted Amano's art in a more appealing way"... and when the character designer was announced here, I had faith that it'd finally happen and that we'd get something fairly stylish - but this is definitely missing her edge, and even though it's hard to judge from one scan, I feel like they didn't even get the point when adapting Ishida's character. He looks awfully generic now. I know Amano's designs are not of the kind of design that can translate well into animated form, but then I wish they'd stop going for these artists if it always ends up in disappointment later on. :/

Either way, the two leads at least haven't lost all their appeal, and this still has a few very interesting selling points besides the character design, so I'll be WAITING FOR 9.13 still somewhat hyped.

Exactly. What's the point if they can't even adapt those designs nicely? Afraid to see how Sawashiro's character looks in the show, lol.

So you expected 2d animation with exactly that style ?

There is a reason why they choose the so called "animu design" , after all it's a tv series , not a short 5 mn experimental stuff.

I still agree that the original design are so much better

I think the 3 magazine scans so far show totally different levels of quality though. The PASH one with the 4 characters just standing there is the worst one because there's no proper expression at all, and zero attempt at layout. The one Michinori Chiba drew for Newtype on the other hand, has really good layout, nice lighting, and very unique character expressions and good artwork. The remaining one from Animedia (I think) is definitely leaning on "generic", where it looks like any other anime of the sort, but the art quality seems decent.

I'm hoping that the Newtype scan is more representative of the anime's actual visual look, but I guess we'll have to wait until they show us a real PV to find out...

The TLDR version of this statement Though anime is generally more 12-13 fps

I'll wait for animated PVs before judging the chara designs, that's my policy now.

Anyway as they say WAIT FOR 9.13!

Sorry , i dont understand TLDR meaning

For the record , i'm an indie 2d animator , creating animated short for years now.
If my message was wrong , then maybe my english but basically yeah i agree with the link you posted

Most of the arts created on paper is basically 2d animatable , even Renaissance classic paint but you would not want to see the results ^^
That's why final designs are mostly always simple/clean to make it easier.

After it's not the case of every animators and studios
But most of the time , personnaly styles and unconventionnals brush are used in experimental short or some short cuts , like anime openings .
