Magnets implanted in fingers allow you to sense magnetic fields

http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comment..._with_magnets/

So freaking awesome. I want them!

That's old news. Here's an article from 2006:

A Sixth Sense for a Wired World:

"What if, seconds before your laptop began stalling, you could feel the hard drive
spin up under the load? Or you could tell if an electrical cord was live before you
touched it? For the few people who have rare earth magnets implanted in their
fingers, these are among the reported effects -- a finger that feels electromagnetic
fields along with the normal sense of touch."

Yeah, I don't really see a practical and realistic application for this.

Some people pay a whole lot to be diffreent. I remember ten years ago when a guy got a tooth implanted in his mouth that could receive phone messages. Seemed cool, no one else could hear his messages.

For an electrician (like me) this would be extremely useful to sense when there is power in various systems, and sense their intensity (although, ofc, for precise work it would be necessary to use proper tools).

But you could use those proper tools with ease as it is, yes? So this would basically be a laziness factor of not wanting to pick something up.

Pretty much yeah, but I wouldn't have the spatiality these implanted magnets would give me. Being able to locate the fields in a 3d space immediately would be quite handful, since then I would be able to use the proper tools precisely.

There is also another very specific reason I want these: in the past I got zapped by the 230V because of a mistake (I thought I cut the power on the line, but I was wrong) ad it was a horrible experience. I don't want to repeat it ever again.

More importantly, it would tell you that a wire that you know shouldn't be live just so happens to be live and may end up saving your life!

B-but, you can fulfill your chunibyou dream with this invention. "My hand are reacting to something, this must be-!" or maybe "Look at my telekonesis power!"
