By the way, the title is "Getsumento Heiki Mina" not "Getsumen Usagi" The kanji for "usagi" is read "to" in this case.

Rabbit girls ftw! PV from Comiket 71. Looks like it will be fun and those Okama designed costumes are Though I wish Gainax were animating this instead of Gonzo. It even looks like Die Buster at times, largely thanks to Okama who worked on both.

Yay, Kana Hanazawa (Ryoko from Zegapain) plays Nankoru Hazemi. This is only her second main role, so I'm eager to hear her voicework in this.

Airs January 13th btw.

This one looks promising, the carrot missiles are really original. From what we've seen in Densha Otoko it looks like a chaotic series.

As expected from a Densha Otoko spinoff, a totally bizarre story, using the characters from Ura Densha Otoko with an original story. A story combining the rabbit and the moon folklore with moe girls that fight with weird weapons.

It's about the same reaction I had when watching the TV anime version of Kujibiki Unbalance for the first time, a metafictional series that has been altered. I will wait until further episodes to judge whether the change is for good or not, but episode 1 was full of random moments, so perhaps it's better to leave out any Densha Otoko notions to enjoy this show.

Typical Okama character designs with smooth animation by Gonzo. The carrot weapon fighting scenes were hilarious, and Inoue Marina's (Mina/Miina) acting and singing job is commendable.

Being an 11 episode series, I suppose I should just watch it without thinking much of it, and enjoy the subtle parodies that are randomly inserted.

Hilarious first episode, some surprisingly good animation (especially in the fight scenes) and great acting from Marina Inoue as the carrot-hating schoolgirl turned super bunny moon woman Mina/Miina (who also sings the addictive ending). Shizuka Itou (I think it's her) does a good turn as the memorable big breasted turnip girl Ootsuki Miina and also plays the standoffish anchorwoman, Koushuu. Eri Nakao as the scheming Escartin with her wild ahoge does well in her few scenes. Unfortunately Kana Hanazawa (Ryoko from Zegapain) doesn't make much impact in this episode as Mina's meganeko friend, but her presence in the ED suggests she has a much bigger role to play.

The launch of Miina's carrot weapons from the Rabbit Force moonbase was one of the highlights; an over-the-top CG sequence which reminded me of Thunderbirds (complete with the tacky music). It's also fun spotting the rabbit imagery, dotted around the streets of Tokyo.

Overall, some nice comedy and action. Not to be taken seriously at all, but savoured for its insane plot and visuals. Gonzo does a great job with the animation (I'd love to know who animated the turnip girl's scenes), emulating Gainax's madcap style (like in FLCL), a nod to the origins of the whole idea.

I loved the look and the animation. Mina/Miina was good, and so were some of the other characters, as Sonhex said. Yes, there is nothing much new except the carrots, etc., but things moved quickly: it was as if they took for granted we knew all the stereotypes and didn't bother setting things up, just cut straight to the chase.

Enjoying weirdness as I do -- and Getsumento Heiki Mina is plenty weird -- I'm surprised that I didn't enjoy the show more. By the way, I'm surprised to see this called an OVA in the thread title, since it has at least 11 episodes and goes weekly from now until 24 March, according to Shoboi Calendar.

After reading Eggplant's post and Sonhex's, this is precisely the plot, or the lack of it, that catches ones' fancy. I knew I had to watch it and, am I glad I did! I think I've seen a similar talking baby with a pacifier in Yu Yu Hakusho. That's about all the inside joke I could pick since I didn't watch Densha Otoko. Some of the fanservice is actually clever and yet, it's not duelled upon. It's for the indvidual viewer to decide if that was fanservice or not. Usage of the CG is pretty good which also gives the animation a shiny, glossy feel to it. Some more screencaps in addition to Sonhex's:

I agree monir, there's a ton of fanservice but it's largely circumstantial, much like Die Buster (I know this isn't a Gainax show, but it feels like one). People will either latch on to the fanservice or just ignore it. Personally I didn't have a problem with it, probably why I didn't mention it first time, though turnip girl's costume (or lack thereof) is hard to dismiss.

i really like the animation...and the good thing about it is that the fanservice shots doesnt seem like fanservice (what is the world comming to )

He-he, must be the season for wacky offbeat shows I think. Luckily I found a HD raw for Mina and it looks fantastic at hi-res. Shame no groups seem to have taken an interest in it though

In the absence of any plot to discuss, here' some thoughts on root vegetables...

The ED suggests in addition to Carrot Miina and Turnip Miina, we can look forward other members of Rabbit Force such as Spring Onion Miina (I think the lady serving in the bar at then end of ep 1), Radish Miina, Wasabe Miina (Mina's friend), Aubergine Miina and Tomato Miina (who looks like Himawari). There's at least four others shown on the website, so lord knows what veges they are.

Also I'm pretty certain Turnip Miina is the haughty announcer despite the short hair, again the ED seems to show this.

Did you notice in the ED how all the characters are holding vegetables, except Escartin who's holding lemons.
