Question Post count?

I've just noticed that my post count went down a bit...it was at over 400+ and now it's under 350.

Has anyone else had this happen to them?

Ya, I'm curious too, just noticed that. And some people that had less then me are ahead now by a margin, strange. Would figure it had affected those aswell.

Yeah, other people have noticed this problem -- we've asked GHDpro and Mb81 to look into it, no news as yet.

It's not about Post count, it's about the fact that someone lost something like 500 posts... and no one got a clue about the why.

And, just for the record, I motion again for abolishing the postcount (and the ratings for that matter) since I fail to see their utility in generating useful posts

If there are posts disappearing, however, that is an issue that needs to be dealt with.

I think it might be because old posts in General Chat are being removed after some time....

I noticed that if you go into your own profile and click the "find all posts by this user" it'll say the full amount of posts you had...like mine is 440+ there while it says 340+ on the threads and profile itself...but with that it seems it only shows the 500 most recent..and no more then 500

So with that in mind it doesn't seem the posts are being deleted...

Post counts are usually counted by their existance...

There are 2 possible options:

1. GHDpro made an "invisible" board sektion ( Invisible for Normal users and maybe mods ) where all the old stuff from general chat ( and other forums too maybe, dunno exactly ) are put, either trough a bbs cleanup settin ( in many forums you can say that threads that are older then ### are moved into ### ), or per hand. And that invisible board is set on "dont coun't posts" ( and that again is an option that is mostly available in forums like this one~ ).

Result: Old threads are moved there and arn't counted anymore, but they are still there so you can see it in the profile... just not counted.

Option 2: They are being deleted from the boards, but a "clone" is also noted in the Database of the forum.
That means it isn't counted anymore, but still exists in the database.

So it could be possible, and i'm still guessing that it has something to do with the forum's cleanup system

Maybe the old archive posts were removed? I only noticed a very small drop in my count.

I'm at a total loss as to how this massive post count decrease occured.
If the posts would have been really gone, then as Superchop already
noticed, you wouldn't be able to find them if you clicked the "Search" link.

I've now run the Update Post Counts option in the Admin Control Panel
of vBulletin, and eventhough it comes with this warning:

Quote:
This will recalculate all of your user's post counts based on their CURRENT posts in the database. Do not run this if you have pruned posts, manually changed post counts, or imported from another forum package and you wish to maintain your users' current counts. Your members' post counts will PROBABLY decrease so only run this if you believe you really need to! Once they decrease you can not bring them back up without restoring your database or manually editing each user. You have been warned!
...all post counts appear to be back to normal!

As ato mentioned however, post counts are not really that important.
If we find that you think they are (and are posting all kinds of crap to
increase your postcount) we may ban you.

So consider it a nice statistic, but nothing else!

Thanks for fixing it ^_^

I dont have that much of a trigger finger for posting but i like to have an accurate count of how many times i have posted...
