(L+CR) Space Battleship Yamato 2199 (movie & TV)

A quick glance at the text and the word "missile" pops up. Perhaps some sort of missile frigate. Wonder whose ships are those in blue? Desslers command ship was dark blue, perhaps they're the emperors personal escort? Nice stuff.

Those around suggest the blue ships are the Imperial Guard's ships (a World War II equivalent would be the Waffen SS I suppose). Which bring's Dessler's Command Cruiser into a slightly different light come to think of it.

It does bring up interesting questions about Gamilas warship paint jobs though. Normally all the ships are basically the same color green. The battleships tend to have some additional colors on them (Schultz ship has a lighter color on the bottom with yellow trim. Dommel's ship is gray colored. Celestra's is sort of a purple is creme color, and Goer's has a whath of white).

However Goer's forces at Balum are some sort of camo scheme. The Imperial Guard seem to have dark blue ships. We've seen Deitz fighter was red (and there are instances of red painted ships in other series). Plus we have the three differently painted carriers shown on the Yamato2199.net site. A standard green, and Purple, and a blue carrier.

Could it be that different elements of the Gamilas government control different space fleet assets and are painted differently? Or that Theater commanders have some leyway in assigning paint jobs to their forces?

A glimer of hope for those who, like me, have been wanting a proper artbook of Yamato 2199. SBY2199 Official Cells has been announced for a May 30th release. No details yet on price or number of pages. Beforethat, on April 10th, SBY2199 Guide Book DVD comes out, costing 980¥. This seems more like a magazine type thing, with a DVD with interviews and some promo material, geared to support the TV airing that starts a few days earlier, on April 7th.

CORRECTION: "Official Cels" is actually "Official Settings (Character Sheets) Sourcebook" — this should include all of the characters and mecha (up to this point in the production), boasting extensive technical detail, plus interviews with the staff. Comes with a slipcase (which indicates this may be a hardcover). This is the modern equivalent to the hardcover books from the late '70s/early '80s. A4 size, horizontal (approximately 10½"x7½").

NOTE ON THE "BLUE" GAMILAS SHIPS: They are designated as belonging to the "Home Defense Fleet".

The one thing i kept repeating in My head was the word "overkill". I mean a fleet of thousands of ships against a single battleship. And the Yamato still seems to put up one hell of a fight. Love the bee people design. And frack that Ito, i never liked that guy. Blue engine core, wonder if they'll use that one for a Power boost. Warp Gate network map with Yuria in Yurisha mode, cool. And poor Hirata has to run from that thing, LOLed.

I'm gonna sit down and catch my breath because even though this is the smallest trailer yet, it's the one that makes me want to go all the way to Japan in April just to watch it as soon as possible.

It gives the impression a standard 2 minute trailer is yet to be released (the trailer announced a few days ago) but is slightly delayed, so they released this 70 second preview (the one shown at Shinjuku Picadilli) to bridge the gap. Is that remotely correct?

Oh boy. Beeland with another Wave Motion Core? Yuria taking Yurisia more often. and Analyser with a stompy mech frame is by itself a lot to take in. But...

You have what looks like a Gamilas Civil War starting (Dessler assassinated? Well they did use that in the manga from what I recall...which given the use of his female bodyguards indicates that I know more or less where this is going). General Sideburns and maybe Hiss will be trying to take the throne I guess. Admiral Dietz and Talan likely to the defense?

The Yamato verses everything. One looks like a trap, but the shot of Yamato firing torpedoes looks like the Gamilas fleet is not ready for combat. Their engine intakes are all green. I am wondering about the focus on the green fight.

And the mutiny. I'm trying to figure Shima's angle in this. Ito's angle is also a question. Who will live through this. Will there be a lot of people in the brig? Will thet leave people on Beeland?

I'm with you there. Having only a slight grasp on the japanese language sucks at times like these. D

The scene with the "idle" Gamilas fleet is probably from episode 18. Perhaps the Yamato pops up at Balun using the Beemera Warp Gate (or the new core) making a run for the Balun gate and that shot of Yamato firing torpedoes is before they even have time to react. Wonder if the Domelus III destruction shot is from that battle or from the attack in episode 15! And there is another Domelus class ship being destroyed! Dessler's? What was the plot for Dessler's assassination in the manga(?). I'm not very knowledgeable of those old side stories, i'm afraid. Any way, i figured the Domelus III would be destroyed eventually, as that would explain why Domel used the "saucer" ship for the remainder of the episodes.

All I recall is that Goer and Hiss somehow staged an assassination of Dessler by electrocuting him in his throne. I don't know the reasons for this take over of the Empire. Only that they later showed Dommel coming in with Dessler's bodyguards and shooting people in Dessler's name. Before going off to attempt to stop Yamato and Harlock one last time over Gamilas.

If they decide to go with the Harlock-like subplot, they have to start it in Chapter 5. There is no other option left for that. They most likely won't pull that one, but considering what they have pulled from that manga so far...you never know.

This plot looks similar, but with different people involved...as there are more Gamilas flag officers around this time. It is not certain things will happen as anyone suspects. Though I high doubt Dessler will stay dead. Particularly since I liked second series Dessler and his story after than.

I doubt they'll kill dessler. More likely he will allow his potential usurpers to make their move and then believe he is dead. And when they come out of the woodwork...bam! Gimleh's forces (assuming Gimleh is loyal to Dessler!) strike and take them down.

Oh that is quite clear. The question is, who's side is Shima on (as I can't make out what he says due to limited knowledge of the language). I would say it has to do with issues between the Yamato Plan (get to Iscandar and back in one Earth year) verses Izumo Plan (Find a new planet for the human race to live).

I never liked Ito from the moment I say his smug looking face. He has the trope "smug snake" look. Also we will see if Roger Rambo is right about Hoshina

I don't even know who he is, but I know he's going to die. Out of all the male characters, he's the ONLY one that really looks like a generic, modern male character. He's also the most androgynous looking, bent legs, with a head more rounded than even the other younger male characters, huge soulful eyes and the least well defined chin of the males. Along with his hanging hair hanging down completely, as if pulled down by gravity.

To make matters worse, he's also got a very generic drab grey outfit that doesn't seem to suggest it's tied with any function critical enough to warrant a bright outfit so you could better recognize a main character in it.

This guy exists for one purpose. To die in a sympathetic/tragic manner. It's only a matter of when.




Edit: Shima Daisuke has also been pretty radically changed.

Yes. They had to meet a deadline, and were only able to cut a 70-second version in time. The Tweet requests, "Please wait a little longer for the full-length PV."

This is actually taken from the original 39-episode plan of YAMATO '74, which was subsequently visualized in Akira Hio's manga — not the other way around. Dessler doesn't die in neither version (in the manga, a double is murdered). While details are different than the manga, essentially, there's going to be a coup of the Gamilas government with an assassination of Dessler, echoing "Operation Valkyrie" in WW2 (the failed plot to assassinate Hitler). In the original story idea, Vice Commander Hiss (and others) were behind it —and all are executed for their treachery), while in the manga, it was Hiss and a high-ranking general. The line in the trailer is actually the order to assassinate him. Of course, once it's foiled, HEADS ARE GOING TO ROLL!
