The Doctor being in denial?
John Hurt being the Doctor and not being the Doctor is still relatively easy to explain. He's the Doctor, but due to what he did he is no longer considered worthy to have the name Doctor. The Doctor even suggested once when he was about to preform a horrible deed to save the lives of others that he'd need a new name. Not worthy of being called the Doctor after that. Personally taking an innocent life to save many lives. The Doctor doesn't think that's worthy of the name Doctor. The horror he must have done in the Time War...especially to end it, would be enough for that version of the Doctor to not be worthy of the name. He won't deny doing them, but it seems he wants to distance himself from the version of himself that actually committed those acts. It would go a long way towards identifying the anger of the 9th Doctor, the sadness of the 10th Doctor, and the self loathing of the 11th Doctor. Matt Smith can be the 11th Doctor, without being the 11th version of the same Time Lord. Thought I seem to recall he's the only one that's been specific about his being the 11th Doctor post Time War. Though there is one other way around that even. In the Five Doctors I think the 5th Doctor was asked which version was he by the First Doctor. I think his anwer was "Fourth Regeneration". If Matt Smith's Doctor is acually refering to himself as the 11th, could he be saying "Eleventh Regeneration"? (He's probably not, 11 faces...11th Doctor) But 11 Regenerations would make him the 12th Doctor, unless one of those people didn't count as The Doctor for reasons of his own choosing. The 50th should clear that up...while leaving the audiance with even more questions. Because that's usually a good sign for a story. If you ask questions but the answers, satifying as they might be, make you ask more question. Yamato 2199 is like that presently and Dr. Who has been like that from time to time. Mileage may vary due to people liking or disliking the questions they are having to ask, much less the answers.

Finished S1 on my Dr Who catch up run. Saw like 20% of the episodes of the first 4 seasons (Dr Who aired 7:30 sat night down here, not always home + footy...) as well as The Eleventh Hour and Victory of the Daleks from s5. Really liked Matt Smith, thought he was an improvement on Tennant and Amy was potentially great companion from those 2 episodes, no idea why I didn't watch more back than.
Anyway S1 was pretty fun if low budget, it's a real damn shame that we couldn't get at least one more season of Eccleston as the doctor. I always thought he was the best out of Nu-Who and after watching the entirety of the first season, I'm still of that opinion. Dalak, Moffat's 2 parter as well as the 2 part finale were the highlights of the season. |

It seems you can go inside the TARDIS via Google Maps. I think it is only the console room. But you can get in via a police box.

9 episodes of 2nd Doctor Patrick Troughton found and up on iToons.
The full series for "The Enemy of the World" as well as all but episode 3 of "The Web of Fear" have been found. These are both from Season 5 which I think was 1967.

Watched the first episode of Web of Fear & really enjoyed it. I don't know if it is just me but sometimes Classic Who serials have slow starts. But I didn't feel like that with this one.
Not really sure how I am going to feel about watching ep 3 which is just still shots (since the ep is still lost). I've watched film with still shots before but they were sprinkled throughout. Might read a summary of that ep instead. I am so happy that these eps were found. It always makes me so sad that so much TV and film is lost because of stupid decisions or just plain bad luck.

Then you can watch it normally on TV. Though there are rumors that 14 or so minutes will be cut from the TV broadcast, while those minutes will be in the theatrical version. Though I suspect the reasoning for cutting 14 minutes might have more to due with the international similcast since some of those international stations have regulated commercial slots (BBC America probably being the largest offender).
