Lokking for something with an edge

What i'm looking for is something unliscensed with a bit more of a political or philisophical edge such as 2 of my favourites Gasaraki and the Patlabor movies (the suggestion does not necassarily have to be mecha). Thanks!

I'm not sure if this is the type of anime you want, but i think Fullmetal alchemist is quite philisophical. although more a story about the friendship between two brothers it speaks about taking science to far and using science for the wrong reasons. I think it also expresses an opinion on the oppression of people of lower classes

Texhnolyze is a way to go... but don't be mistaken by the fact that there is very few speach in this anime... there's a lot of room to think...

And there is always Cowboy Bebop which is really can't be beaten by anything...

Jin-Roh. If you like Patlabor, you'll love Jin-Roh. Also, Ghost in the Shell, maybe.

Planetes is often compared to Patlabor. There are loads of political undertones in it.

Try it with Now and then, here and there, Infinite Ryvius, Saishuuheiki Kanojo and Great Teacher Onizuka.

Getting back to unlicensed series...

Condor Hero
Narutaru
Shingetsutan Tsukihime
St. Luminous Mission High School
Asagiri no Miko

are somewhat philosophical IMO.

Avenger is political to some extent.
I enjoyed Dokkoida, which is light in tone but has its political elements.

Wonderful Days is a Korean movie with an ecological/political theme. It is apparently unlicensed, but the region 3 dvd is subbed in English. It is technically amazing but seems to be a bit short on story.

You can get reviews or whatnot on most of these if you want more information about them.

It's certainly hard to find anything that matches up to the Patlabor movies. WXIII was astonishing...

Political anime is without a doubt Junni Kokki and perhaps Kenshin-Reminiscence to see the political struggle of a revolution.

Philosophical sci-fi woudl be SE-Lain and Ghost in the Shell - SAC

Psychological would be EVA and RahXephon.

Condero Hero would be good, although the animation isn't that good and I prefer the novel.

Last Exile has a hint of political undertones...

I'll second Juuni Kokki as well.
