I actually have much to add and discuss, but we will wait until the thread.

Then prepare for a can of worms.

Watched it raw. It looks fantastic. Just wish I could understand it all!
I reckon I got at least some of the plot but there's obviously big holes for me without understanding Japanese.

There are some truly stunning scenes. The VF-29 looks awesome. The concerts were great.

Bring on the subs!

If you're like me and have been watching anime for years with subs, certain words come across easy to understand. Whether they are past or present tense is what I always have to focus on. So yeah, I can understand where you have problems.

I didn't say that it'd be you delivering them.

The Claymore forum has a Databook thread, which provides a convenient place to find reliable in-depth information about the series without having to navigate through less than reliable google search results - most notably corrupt wikipedia entries. I'm sure a similar thread would be most welcome here in the Macross forums.

The most important interview (IMHO) has already been translated by Renato on Macross World, and I vote it should be in the first post in that thread. (@Yot - do you think Renato would mind?). I personally haven't seen any other interviews where Kawamori comments on it yet, though if anyone has and wants to point me in the right direction, I'd be happy to work on them if they haven't already been translated.

Other stuff that I've found informative include (1) the author's note in vol. 4 of the Macross F light novels - hm...I haven't checked the movie ones yet and (2) the disclaimer in the VF-25 Master File.

After that, my own contributions will mostly be the "official chronology", though thankfully, I can build on translations that have already been done. Unfortunately (from my perspective), even the most basic chronology on the English Macross Compendium seems to have added information based on the various series - the Japanese sources I'll be referring to don't do that.

To be honest, there shouldn't be as much info in this thread because of the nature of Macross 'canon' (which raises the question whether there should be another thread for general interview/data/etc translation - but I'm not sure if I want to open that can of worms since I'm fairly certain who'll be doing most of the work in that case...).

That sounds...ominous. Could I just ask that the first few posts be reserved for official interviews, disclaimers and information? (Then you...er...we could spend the rest of the thread debating what this all means.)

Sure, I don't mind a little foreplay...

With the second movie I am even more convinced that the late '50s idols wear a holographic suit as a second skin, taking it off only during bathtime. That or the stages are holographic decks. I personally prefer the suit theory.

I say the stage theory makes more sense.

Spoiler for even if one would prefer the suit theory.:

I gave up trying to make logical sense of the holograms and just sat back and enjoyed the eye candy.

Hm, sub seems to be out, although by Commie, who, it appears, do only 10-bit files now. Anyone can recommend a player which can handle that well? Windows Media, VLC and MPC give me problems with that.

Anyway, dl'ing.
