As for him blocking Hisoka's attack, it's kind of meh. It's just a straight-on simple attack like his (Hisoka's) attack on Satotz OR Gidou's straight on attack to Gon last episode. As I've already seen how cool Satotz caught the cards barehanded, Kurapika blocking the cards pales in comparison (w/c made me forget that he did that). Also, since Kurapika has superhuman qualities too like Gon (acute hearing, fast reflex) and he already seen Hisoka's attack early on, he should not have trouble blocking a "simple" attack like that. But I guess since this occurred real early in the manga, it's kind of cool to many.

Personally, Kurapika's attitude in the Hunter exam prior to the 4th segment comes across as an arrogant, know-it-all, indecisive (lack conviction) bugger with a tragic past; but hey, at least he's not emo. No offense to the Kurapika fans.

That being said, he was the one who changed the most during the Hunter exam. IMO
I started to like Kurapika after next arc. He become much stronger and more interesting despite being emo. He has the qualities that Sasuke never did and never will have.

Those 3 learning what class they belong to.
Gon an enhancer, Zushi a manipulator and Killua a Transmuter.
Pretty cool demonstrations, Gon sure trained his power to the max.
Secret hunters exam passed! Nice surprise test ^^
Finally! The fight we've all been waiting for!
Hisoka vs Gon!
Wow! Hisoka sure is amazing and so far unbeatable.
Gon's feint totally worked, cool! One hit won't win the fight though...

HxH revamped gets mixed reactions from people who saw the original. The original release wasn't bad at all. It followed the manga thoroughly. Cutting off important scenes of the manga and inserting annoying fillers that retell the last 12 episodes? Plain annoying. Less see how it lasts? The original stopped before Greed Island arc. They'll at least get to the spiders I know that from the ending.

That was some really impressive animation. Didn't know Madhouse still had it in them these days.

Next week has my favorite Hisoka moment, so hopefully they'll go all out there too.

Also, most hilarious (and creepy) Hunterpedia ever.

I was actually surprised how much I was focused on the episode before the fight, despite very little actually happening. All they did was learn about another aspect of Nen for more than half an episode but I didn't even know that much time had passed until I checked. In a way I was kinda disappointed but when that fight took off all that disappointment just vanished. I have to admit that this show handles the plot really well, especially in this arc. I'm still not 100% behind the characters but Gon is no longer the unbearable little "Do-no-wrong" brat that I first thought he was.

I still don't like the clown though. I've never liked typical "I want to see you develop" type villains and this one is has so far been about as typical as they come. He is good plot-wise, since he's that perfect type of overpowered villain that makes it awesome when the main character actually does well against him (Like we saw in this episode). But his character still sucks. And I always get peado vibes from him, especially this episode...

I'm a bit confused about Leorio's situation though. The way Gon was relieved he clearly thought there was nothing to worry about with Leorio, but as far as I can see if he's too preoccupied with medical school then how is he going to learn Nen and pass the secret exam? I felt a bit of a dissonance there.

But whilst Gon's fight with Hisoka is interesting and all, i would like to see more Kurapika and Leorio right now. It looks like Kurapika found a Nen master himself and I thought there was going to be more focus on him so I'd like to see him in a bit more action.

Gon is relieved because Leorio is following his dream of becoming a doctor. But yes, there's a bit of a dissonance. What this episode fails to mention is that Leorio plans to study nen after the medical exam, something the manga and 1999 version do mention.

Because some haters made Toto y Moi stop her comparisons, someone else had to do it in her place. And since I've been doing it elsewhere, decided to share them here as well.

So Kurapika has also learned nen. Still worried about Leorio learning it, but i hope he passes the medical exam first. Gon finally landed a hit on Hisoka! The Schwing stole the ep though.

Great episode. The animation was fantastic. I was actually expecting the episode to end before the fight actually started. I'm glad it didn't turn out that way.

Hisoka really is creepy. Way more then he needs to be.

As for people thinking about Leorio, I don't even know why he's still considered to be a main character. He got access to the money, and now he can become a doctor and start helping people. His story is finished. What more does he need to do?

Agree this type of villain troupe has been done before, but Hisoka is given a pedo/sexual predator angle for it so I think there's enough twist to this shounen troupe to make him not so typical. At least I remember back when this character was written in 1998, it was shocking and really out there back then to see the typical shounen manga's "obsession with fighting" idea get eroticized (and people wondered how Togashi could get away with stuff like that in Jump). Maybe this idea got rip off over the years now so you just think it's 'typical'. The pedo vibes came from his preoccupation with the unriped 'green fruit' (basically jailbait), that just fighting someone powerful alone isn't enough, but the anticipation process of an unriped, young powerful fighter further gave Hisoka that extra arousal. I thought while it's totally mess up, it's rather genius characterization. Hisoka is written in ways that's full of sexual puns from the very beginning, from the names of his skill (Elastic Love), to the deliberate poses (you'll find phallic shapes in his poses/hand gestures), to the dialogues (the word choices he used to refer to killing/fighting are on the lines of 'doing/banging you')

He's far from finished. The anime messed up when it failed to mention that he plans to study Nen after the exams...or maybe they don't intend to get that far and decided to ignore this fact.

I say they want it to be a surprise when they meet up again.
"Oh, by the way, I learned nen as well."
"Really?"

I found it kind of strange that Specialist is "in the hexagon" at all, given it's the "none of the above" category. I guess this system is designed to allow for villains to have really weird powers while discouraging (especially) Gon from doing the same. Of course, "hard" doesn't exactly mean "impossible"...

Why does he need to learn nen at all?

He wants to be a doctor with money.
