Yeah, people were calling that back when he first made his hologram appearance back on top of the Parabellum. Actually, that fear was one of the reasons I was so down on Ep. 21.

(That said, does anyone know if Marika's father pulls a back-from-the-dead in the later novels? If it's a case of just moving around The Reveal, that's one thing, but if the anime writers are pulling non-continuity crap out of their various nether orifices, that's a whole 'nother ballgame.)

Speaking of which, since they made it official this time out, I must congratulate everybody (whom I was not one of ) who realized Coach and Kane were actually different people way back in the Nebula arc!

Fascinating episode this was. From all the revelations to the quirky and funny moments.

I had a hunch that Kane had someone that looked like him, but decided not to dig any further so I could surprise myself when the time came.

Looks like Miss Quartz is of royalty it seems probably another spoiled princess. Lol, looks like Marika has a knack for attracting royalty from the two Serenity princess now possibly this new Galactic princess.

Luca...lol. She's a cougar that just finished her hunt. Who would of ever known? What's with her traditional russian-ish snow wear?

Awww. Marika and Chika looked so lovely in their one piece outfit when they were singing. I can totally imagine that's what their seiyus probably look like when they were voice casting this episode.

This episode was...

erratic.

I kept thinking that it had been cut up and that I was missing parts of it or something.

I mean... it's not... terrible, but it's also not very good direction or flow.

Have to admit "Blaster" Ririka was cool though. Now we know why she's called "Blaster".

She's like a female Han Solo... no wonder her daughter keeps picking up princesses.

Spoiler for Episode 25 on Luca:

I'm confused on what happened to Luca. I thought that she really had planned to go see the aurora, but then had been "picked up" by Imperial agents, only to be rescued by Blaster Ririka. She subsequently was "vacationed" to some tropical resort (with Ririka). Luca did mention that she was able to see Blaster Ririka in action, so I think she did encounter trouble, but why didn't she return to Bentenmaru after being rescued? Why leave the potentially dangerous android alone?

All in all I like the light-heartedness of these fake pirates and the new pirate song (indeed I think the light-heartedness lets the idea of a highschool girl as a pirate captain more believable), but that just made Ironbeard look... silly.

Well, the thing is Ironbeard seems extremely hammy compared to the others. Marika's gang view independence as the most important quality to being a pirate, while Quartz seems driven by aggressiveness (although she seems more and more childish as the story shows more of her). Ironbeard... talks about stuff like the frontier and space and whatnot. He talks in big, vague terms to a seemingly practical lot.

In regards to "space, the final frontier" view point, Marika holds a similar view as Ironbeard e.g. Marika stares at the night sky.

I wanted to use this episode as proof that Chiaki has "hobbies", as the quadrant-trotting net idol and cosplay extraordinare known as [Charlotte].

DSI was a one-shot essentially, about how Chiaki hides her Charlotte stage identity from her friends when she remembered that GalCon that year was to be held on Morningstar.

Needless to say, Mami's appearing as a rabid fan.

Come on... Frontier Pirates wear those lame costumes all the time. They're all sort of hammy. It's just that they're bored and they ain't no adventurers like their grandpas.

Ironbeard was a play acting pirate for years and he married one, too. It just so happens he's a real pirate, too. The hammy part of his personality probably comes from doing shows for about 20 years.

The frontier pirates are a mixed lot. The captains have inherited their letters and are mostly just civilians. Their crews, on the other hand, seem to be former space navy, mercs, etc.


Seems like Ironbeard wants to test them. It seems that Ironbeard expects a civil war or piracy to be outlawed... leading to a new age of real deal space pirates.

Marika's dad has been giving the prologue to each episode all along. I wonder if he visited her in secret, under a different identity... what's with the mask?
