Well that didn’t take long. They were clearly planning on this for a whoke, it explains why the last couple episodes of the anime are supposed to be “extra” episodes despite foreshadowing more plot.

Then again, sometimes I think it depends if the publishers/producers are interested in making another anime season.
I've heard of certain anime getting S2 despite poor sales of Blurays, manga and novels.

I mean, this series had, in 2018, higher franchise physical media sales than even the likes of Attack on Titan.

The manga for Slime also got first place in the bookwalker 2018 award which is based on bookwalker's digital sales...

So frankly, this result is not unexpected, escpacially since the merch supposedly also sells really well.

It's not like anyone wasn't expecting Slime not to get an S2, just not this quickly. It also usually not the case no matter how popular a series is unless it was planned even before the first season started which is probably the case as Shinji103 noted. If not that actually isn't good news for the show's production unless the next cour is like 10 episodes long.

If they're doing a freaking season two they could have slowed down and told volumes 3 and 4 (or rather, volume three while moving 4 to season 2) properly, rather than completely ruined my will to keep watching.

Oh well, I just came to this without expectations and was one of the best (if not the best) of the season for me. I'll wait for it.

There is an update on the anime website. Once per month the staff will release something, though it's unclear what it will be. It will be for a total of 12 times starting with late October 2019, so since the last release will be in late September 2020, there is a high chance for Season 2 to start in Fall 2020.

The 2nd season will be split cour, first in October 2020 and 2nd in April 2021.
However, a new TenSura anime will air from January 2021 in between the two cours.
It will be an anime of the spinoff yonkoma manga Tensura Nikki.
