Synopsis:

Takumi, a gifted chef, was just let go from his job. He lands a gig at an old boarding house called Astro-sou, but hesitates to accept after learning he must also live there full-time. That is until he meets the beautiful and charming caretaker, Mira, and he’s sold. The two begin to work together and their connection deepens. But Mira has a secret: she isn’t from this world!

Looks like Maison Ikkoku with a dash of Urusei Yatsura, which is even funnier because Shinobu (Maaya Uchida) is voicing the alien love interest .

Hope it's more like an adults version of Penguin Highway rather than aforementioned comparisons, but given the director's previous work, I suspect major shenanigans so I suspect the later.

Junichi Suwabe as an alien poodle, Jun Fukuyama as the alien love rival, Rie Kugimiya as a shota, underground idol, and a female admirer (possibly stalker)...well, that's a cast of characters that can rival Maison Ikokku .

I ended up watching the leaked episode and... I don't really know if I'm feeling it. Its definitely going to be zany.

What better way to start off a romcom than an epic space battle with a woman in a skintight pilot suit ?

Miyasaka Takumi is a chef looking for a job voiced by Soma Saito who gets a Meet Cute with a beautiful landlady of a sharehouse named Mira voiced by Maaya Uchida and the pair hit it off immediately...though her "dog" of course hates him .

And no sharehouse anime would be complete without a colorful cast of characters, like the mysterious but affable elderly novelist, the aspiring indie idol who sings about punching people (and probably would punch you if you tick her off enough), the jobless bum and his studious son (did not have Tomokazu Sugita and Rie Kugimiya as father and son on my bingo card), and...is that Sadako !?

Nothing unites tenants more than the landlady's terrible cooking and wanting to hire someone who can actually cook...and getting to spend more time with the landlady sure sweetens the deal for Miyasaka .

Mira doesn't look like she's been in prison, but she's definitely mysterious...though that doesn't get in the way of her and Miyasaka's first date out on the town! They even use the ED sung by their VA's !

Oh no, it's Maison Ikoku because Mira is a widow! Only...nope, it's more Urusei Yatsura/Waiting for Summer because she's secretly an alien princess on the hunt for a key to save her planet and rule over it...and her poodle is voiced by Junichi Suwabe! And they're being watched !

The OP is really fun and stylish, with a lot of retro romcom energy injected into it !

It wasn't super, super funny or anything, but it was solid and had an energetic OP, had good ol' VAs, just generally fun to watch
And as an original anime, it will likely conclude the story. Likely, not always, but this looks like the type of anime that has an idea where it wants to go

It feels almost self-aware that they have Maaya Uchida playing the alien girlfriend this time around .

How convenient that Mira and Naosuke had a cat shaped rocket that lands in front of a bunch of cat statues at a temple that they can just pass off as a giant cat statue. Even funnier because Naosuke looks like a poodle .

I love how Mira got the whole idea for the plan from spotting a Maison Ikakku...I mean, "Melon Igyoku" poster .

So Mira is under a lot of pressure from her home planet and her mother, the queen, to find this key, take the throne, and bring peace to the galaxy...when really she just wants to relax, enjoy Earth, and eat fine Japanese cuisine from Miyasaka. But Naosuke won't let her get out of her duty (especially because he hates playing a dog) and she can't fail the mother who raised her after her father died .

Miyasaka's feelings for Mira are getting...pretty intense, whether she be a widow, in a relationship, or otherwise .

So the previous landlord Tasuke might have also been from Planet Wid? And he's the one who hid the key in Astro Lodge? Is he directly connected to Mira? Mira wants to know more about him not just because of the key, but because she's fascinated by another Wid alien who seemed to have fallen in love with Earth .

Never get in the way of a jobless bum and his food...and when in doubt, blame the dog! Miyasaka is never going to get along with Naosuke .

So the "antagonists" are apparently alien Hub's, who have transforming "Hubby" robots, who are also after the key...and now Miyasaka thinks there's some kind of husband in the picture. Just typical sci-fi romcom antics .

The Hubby robot transforms a bird to a roomba! A roomba that gets a wig and bra stuck ontop of it and accosted by a kid! I think it made a bad choice for disguise .

Although I guess if anything good came out of it, shorting out and leaving Miyasaka and Mira locked in a room together isn't the worst thing. Especially when they get to drin Umeshu together and drunk Mira gets pretty honest by how chained she is by her heavy responsibilities...which makes Miyasaka telling her to live the life she WANTS all the more precious. And Miyasaka gets gifted with her falling asleep on his shoulder...AND lap! Totally worth a scratch-up by Naosuke .

And things are getting so good that he and Mira are even going to watch a movie together! Or they would have had her fiance Shoin, voiced by Jun Fukuyama, not shown up to throw everything off! Guess it wouldn't be a Rumiko Takahashi tribute show without a love rival !

The ED is really cute with Mira and Miyasaka singing a duet with their pictures looking at each other and then going on a romantic date at the end !

Another fine episode, and for some reason, the protagonist feels actually kinda unique. I guess its because all of the Takagi-san clones have the female be on top of the protagonist and the protagonist is always the reactor. While these "older" stories have a better balance.

Episode 2 moved the plot along quite well. I am ecstatic to see so much happen in just 20 something odd minutes. They surely are going for a lot of double meanings with Wid-ow and Hubby.

The town lady sure got to Takumi but things were looking up for him when he got locked in the room with Mira, and at the end when he was about to go watch the movie but her apparent fiance appeared! Looking forward to next episode!

Miyasaka just wants to watch movies and chill with Mira and now he has to deal with none other than her fiance Shion...well, more like the childhood friend she always swore she'd marry when they were kids, but still !

So Mira can just have her tech change her outfit whenever she wants? Does she ever actually change clothes herself ?

But hey, at least Naosuke is consistent in hating any man who tries to get close to Mira, so it's not just Miyasaka. Though his main priority is figuring out who is framing him for stealing food. Speaking of ghosts...I guess nobody knows about Sadako .

Now Mira has to maintain the lie that she and Shoin are from the UK, though at least Shoin has the outfit and resources to come off like a rich tycoon .

Naosuke's been made by Ren! It's going to get even harder to pretend to be a dog now !

I love how Miyasaka doesn't really care that Shoin is driving a Sci-Fi car that shouldn't exist on Earth but only notices that he and Mira are spending late nights together...and the other residents are teasing him about how his aspiring professional chef status just makes it a harder fight for her heart .

It's hard for Ren being the son of a jobless bum because he doesn't get the nice bento's all his classmates get from his parents, but it's a nice opportunity for Miyasaka to step up! Doubly so when he and Mira have to leave for Enoshima together to personally deliver the bento !

It's nice that Wakabayashi actually thanked Miyasaka for cooking for his son...but would he have actually gone to the trouble of delivering it to his kid had he not used it as an opportunity to do Miyasaka a solid by paring him and Mira up ?

Figures they would need Shoin's car (complete with alien AI) to make it, but Miyasaka isn't letting Mira sit next to him at least! And of course the Planet Hub Pelican is still after them, which leads to the car flying, Mira firing an RPG, and Miyasaka getting into a fistfight with a pelican. He didn't win, but it's the thought that counts .

Bento delivered! And now Miyasaka is trying to ward off all birds! The dudes' so extra, but that's what Mira finds so enjoyable about him .

Ooooh! Ren has a crush! That girl in the dress IS pretty cute. Though I wonder if this is the first time Mira's seen someone having feelings for someone else ?

I KNEW Sadako was the culprit! Which means some investigating and romcom antics from Mira and Miyasaka !
