Sending Jiroumaru to get Tohru might be simple. But so is trying to solve Algebra with addition and subtraction. It just doesn't work

Except given Ren's current state, they're pretty screwed if they can't get Tohru back. If being short on Waitresses is a problem for awhile, then having all the meals ruined will be a disaster. So worrying about the waitress shortage at the beginning of the day is kind of moot point.

In terms of cost/benefit analysis, it's the difference between trying to maximize gains (Increase odds of getting Tohru back for max benefit) as opposed to trying to minimize loss (Better damage control for when Ren screws up the meal). It shouldn't be surprising given Ohana's personality, that she goes for option that seems to allow for the possibility of a good outcome*.

Plus I don't think Jiromaru would have rushed. Not to mention he might have gotten side tracked. Minko would have been the best choice, I say.

I was waiting for that actually. A quick inspiring speech to Ren, where by Ohana wins him over for good.

On the "Ren collapses under pressure" thing: why do you think he's working at Kissuiso instead of somewhere with more prestige and customers? It's not lack of skill, given that he's trained Tohru to a high enough standard to meet the approval of the other inn (whose name escapes me for the moment).

On the "sending Ohana instead of Minko" issue: as somebody earlier in the thread mentioned, Minko can do the food prep. That's pretty important, since it tends to be the most labor-intensive part of cooking, and even more so when your current chef is flaking out and wrecking your ingredients while trying to do the prep work. Having everything ready so that Tohru can start cooking as soon as he gets to Kissuiso is far more critical than having Ohana there to do... what, exactly?

On the Kou front: I'm guessing that he'll transfer into the local high school within two episodes. Three at most. Then, another two or three after that, either Nako or Yuina develops a crush on him.

And why exactly is anybody listening to anything Takako says? Everything that comes out of her mouth is either pointless English or absolute idiocy, and I get the sense that she's been doing this since well before we first saw her. I swear to god, Tomoe should hook up with Enishi solely to remove Takako from the inn forever.

Knowing Jiroumaru, I actually thought he was looking for 'material' for his erotic novels, guess not I was wondering why they couldn't just borrow someone from Yuina's Inn since they're clearly under-staff, but then I realized they must have gotten their hands full too with all those 'mystery guests' running around town.

Oh Ko, your timing couldn't have been any worse.

I give them credit for getting back on theme. I give them credit for not making the Kou appearance in the preview a troll. But somehow, while better, that episode didn't really work for me. For one thing, every second Takako was on screen the entire episode crashed to a halt. She's a disaster for the series. I was also really bothered by the string of add coincidences that just happened to be convenient for the plot. Ren conveniently changes personalities and folds under pressure? Ohana leaves the inn in the middle of the rush to grab Tohru instead of sending someone else who can't help with the rush of customers? And why did the inn suddenly get a rush of reservations out of nowhere in the first place?

Things seem pretty predictable from here. Ohana/Tohru development (likely a misdirection). Kou misunderstands and gets jealous, maybe goes back to the city in a huff. I just hope they don't drag it out too long.

I thought this was the worst episode to date. Hate what they did to Ren's character. You would think someone at his age and experience would have enough confidence in his abilities to cook up something good under normal circumstances. I also don't particularly like Ohana playing main character, she has to be the one who voices out her opinions against most strongly, right after pretty much everyone is for it. And we couldn't have had it any other way then to have Ohana be the one to get Tohru in marvelous fashion. I must admit in biased against main characters constantly doing ridiculous things (not in the sense that Ohana did ridiculous things, but it always has to be main character....).

I like the prospect of Ko visiting, i think it will be very interesting if he knows one of the other girls there. Really liking the idea of Yuina and Ko knowing each other (childhood perhaps?), it would make for some really interesting situations already given Ohana and Tohru's status. Though it probably won't be the case...

...

Well, starting with what I liked.

I thought that the Manager collapsing was good, Ohana taking a stand and her showing leadership skills nice, and the other characters had thier fair share of moments (Minchi in particular was very nice this episode) Also it had Nako and thats always a plus with me

The comedy/drama blend was very well done, I thought. I especially liked Ren's scene and despite being comedic in nature, didn't undermine or water down the seriousness of the issue at hand.

That being said, the scene with Ohana/Ko's conversation was annoying to watch, to say the least. I couldn't help but role my eyes the moment she said she couldn't hear him, and by the time she shut off the phone my face must have looked like a casino's slot machine. The scene screamed ''Incoming misunderstanding'' that I hardly stomached it. Hopefully we end up with a subversion of whats implied.

But what really soured what could've been a somewhat nice episode was the end. Ohana's going to get Tooru, much like Soconfused had said, made my head hurt from so illogical it was. Yes, I get she's the main character and thus needs to be the Herald to bring everyone together in order to preserve/save the inn, but bloody hell, did she need to be so damn impulsive and airheaded?

Seriously, going to ''get'' Tooru, without knowing where the wedding is, without changing her work kimono, without asking someone else to go and get him instead, like say one of the adults taking a car and going there. No, its running off without thinking, without asking anyone if they know the location of the wedding, without calling the place where the wedding is held to see if they could reach him, and then she'll just have to ''look everywhere''.

Bleh, it's this sort of writing that clearly engineered towards making a certain conclusion that makes it hard to enjoy anime in general.

Honestly speaking, I thought this was the weakest episode of the show, despite getting a nice mix of comedy/drama.

This is the first time I could honestly say this about an anime episode in a long, long time:

This episode blew me away.

The scenery in this... my word... the scenery is just so greatly gorgeously groundbreaking!

I know that this anime has had very nice animation and artwork for awhile now, but the superbly skillful direction of this episode, combined with a very wide variety of differing settings on display, really helped to showcase the artistic talents of the animators working on Hana-Saku Iroha.

Beyond that, the animation was finely fantastically fluid. There was nothing over the top, but nothing underwhelming either. The character movements felt so real to behold.

Putting aside the visuals, the drama in this episode hit just the right note for me. Everything fell into place in a stupendous seamless symphony of believable plot events paradoxically presented in epic fashion.

As far as characterization is concerned, Ohana shined marvelously in this episode, as we see her character grow as she begins to truly overcome the challenges put before her.

The first scene between her and Minchi was excellent, as it shows how Ohana has completely adapted to Minchi, even going so far as to preempt Minchi saying "balut" to her.

Ohana moved from plot event to plot event with cool, calm, collected decision making that Bruce Wayne would be proud of, and with colorful charismatic courage that Clark Kent would be proud of.

All of the characters, even Jiromaru, were very well-handled in this episode.

Takako, in particular, had some awesome moments in this episode, and she made a perfect antagonist for Ohana to clash against, morally and philosophically.

Finally, this anime has reached its potential in my view. At least for this episode.

For me, this could be Hana-Saku Iroha's "Turning Point" episode. Where the drama and storyline picks up, and never looks back.

10/10 for an exquisitely excellent episode eight.

As befits a 16 year old girl.

Honestly, how hard could it be to find wedding at a church? 10 minutes top?

I personally think the wide distribution of ratings on this episode is a byproduct of the "identity crisis" I described this show having last week.

It seems the manner in which the show takes its twists and turns, from comedic, to serious, to zany, to sober is throwing people for a loop.

I can't help but wonder what each person is even looking for in this anymore as it's more than apparent to me that many are simply confused with the events in certain episodes compared to others.

I liked this episode because it was more in line with what I expected form this show in episodes 1 and 2. But it's also possible that those that those who didn't love episodes 1 and 2 THAT much would find displeasure with this episode as well.

Me too, honestly a triangle love situation is going to annoy me and its be overrated and predictable. I'm being bias though because I want nothing to hinder ko and Ohana's relationship. Its bad enough already

My, my. After relegating Hanasaku Iroha as an above average slice of series, this episode gives me a punch in the face as it makes me reminiscent back to the glory episodes that were 1 and 2. With the exception of the scenes that involved the management consultant (man she's annoying... at this point I'll say she's more annoying than Jiro), this is what I was initially expecting Hanasaku Iroha when it only had 2 episodes on its belt. And this episode delivered. Light-heartness comedy within reasonable boundaries with a dramatic context behind it. I think this might be the only week where a Iroha ep was actually stronger than an Anohana ep - a rare feat indeed!

Okada... Okada... must you put in a love *insert many sided shape* in every series you are involved with . I am 99% convinced that some sort of misunderstanding is going to happen between Ko and Ohana given her precedence. Brace yourself love *insert many sided shape* haters, because it's almost certainly going to happen at this rate .

Beside if precedence follows, Ko and Ohana are going to end up together after a helluva bumpy ride anyway...

Btw, I'm a male and thought Tooru in a suit was pretty hot. And no I'm not gay.

I'm hoping for some realism as teen girls usually don't go for the guy in the next town when someone more eligible and desirable is available. Bike, promising career and looks good. No way a girl would give up something like that.

Besides, Ohana has to find herself first.

Well since this is anime, and anime has a long history of childhood friends usually winning (despite whether they are the fan's favourite or not) + Okada's given history I'd say Ko and Ohana will get together by the end.

But yes, I agree it would be interesting if a Ko x Tooru shipping pair was concluded despite the possible rage amongst the community .

To be honest though, I don't really care. I'm not much of a shipper when in comes to love *many sided shape*, but moreso critical on how's it executed.

I didn't comment much about it, but yes, the scenery did look gorgeous this episode. Though this show is without a doubt wonderful to look at considering that P.A. works are celebrating their 10th anniversary coupled with Ando at the helm, so there is no hold backs in regards to the animation.

I do agree that it's nice to see Minchi and Ohana's relationship as it is now and how much progress has been made between the two. Neeedless to say, Ohana is certainly making her open up gradually, though the question is if Minchi feels a little annoyed (jealous even?) that Ohana had done what she couldn't do this episode with standing up against the majorty?

As much as I loved Ohana's role in this episode, I worry about this trend of her simply giving out answers without much thinking and then end up turning out to be the right ones will continue for long. She made a mistake with going out like that almost immediately after making her collected decision, so there is something missing there (or the writers are doing to much with her character)

We'll see. I personally think we will still maintain the amounts of comedy and drama as we had the previous episodes.

How hard was it to call the place? Or get someone to drive there? Or even change her clothe?

Really, the point I'm making isn't that it's going to take a long time to find him, as much as there were other ways to solve this and even if she had to go she could've asked where the location is/changed her clothe/ got one of the adults to drive there etc. or even simply call the place.

It's set up so we can in have the dramaz hit us all with Ko seeing Ohana and Tooru doing something whatever it is. It's an illogical decision made right after she made a logical one. That's my problem with the way this turned out.

I don't think so. I really did like the episode outside the way Ohana ran off without thinking, and its more to do with the writing making no sense so we can have certain events happen. I liked the comedy and I liked the drama, I didn't like the contrived writing.

I'm personally looking for a slice-of-life story about a girl who ends up in an inn where she starts to grow, build friendships and learn more about life. I'm also looking for Masahiro Ando's directing and P.A. Works high production qualities.

What I don't want is for characters to start acting in forced ways that end up with ''misunderstandings'' and stupid situations that need to be solved in further contrived ways.

I don't think that's it. I absolutely LOVED episode 1, and still thought this wasn't as good due to the end. I'm also seeing some who liked episodes 1 and 2 also show different opinions on the matter so I really don't think its that.

Creepy interest in high school girls at his age...

BTW, how is "cook" a "promising career"?

In Japan, a young man on his way to becoming a head chef at a reasonably sized restaurant or hotel by his mid-2os has a very promising career.

I don't think it's just Japan, even here in the UK that would be pretty good.

Well yes, but that wouldn't stop him from being recommend or finding a job at a good place (their rivals even employed him as a part timer, so he could always go to Fukuya at worst)
