I think it has more to do with playing against the right people. Playing against scrubs will not help you get to a very high level.

You can be good even if you play only less than 1 hour a week. You just need to memorize your moves and be used to it. Everything is just anticipating enemy movements. *Remember the times when I could only play T4 and TDR once a week*

Not a chance...1hr is not even enuf to practice your JF, let alone guard impact, combos, frame counter, etc etc.

anticipating enemy moves is important, but getting only one Counter Hit instead of a counter hit combo that takes away 40-50% life to punish your enemy will not win you too many matches...

Somewhere out there, there are Pro Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots competitions. Think about it. That game has way more depth than SoulCalibur.

Ouch.... That is rough....

Well, I tried my hand on-line. And if "Pros" are considered guys that have a lot of wins, does beating them in a round or two but losing the match count for anything?<.<'

Currently have about 20 wins on-line. Mostly by using Killik. Talk about an unbalanced character...

PS3.

95% of the people I met online only have 3 bars unless they live in NZ. But even 5 bars players have quite a bit of lag, which makes online a totally different experience to playing offline.

I find that with online, spamming with some mixups is the way to go since there is just too much lag so by the time you want to block, dodge or counterattack, the input lag will just screw everything up. The timings for GI are too random to get right. JFs are ok though if your fingers have already memorised the timing.

Odd. My connection usually sucks while I am on-line for stuff but in Soul Calibur I get practically no lag at all.

Siegfried is easy to use if you can remember his stances and learn to chain them. Vader is good for those who have lots of patience and good timing, since the strategy for Vader is counterattacking. With Yunsung and Mitsurugi, you can button mash and look like a great player online. If playing as the Apprentice, you'll need to know a lot of combos, and think a few of your own.

Playing online is just a trial of frustration due to lag. You can get away with more than you can if you were playing live. If you want to play seriously, I wouldn't do it online.
