I have looked everwhere on the net and have been unable to find any info on how to time karaoke. I would be extremly greatful for any information anyone can give me. I don't need to know much because i will use alot of trial and error.

I know you posted this awhile ago and probably aren't expecting an answer at this point, but you should start with Sub Station Alpha...just search for it in Google. I'm currently trying to figure out how to use Adobe After Effects, which lets you do all the really good advanced ones.
