A fancy 3D animation of galaxy formation and intergalactic interaction generated by a team of researchers at Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics and the Heidelberg Institute for Theoretical Studies. I think most of the article's made up of false paraphrasing and no real quotes. Including the title of the article as it doesn't show the entire universe nor the first 14 billion years. Quote:
Still ,it's cool that they could create such a simulation program that takes into account so much of particle and astro- physics. |

the US 9th district court just upheld Apple's patents against Samsung, including the ones where Apple basically patented the right to make rectangular devices.
US patent system ftw then again, it is a hometown judge with a home town jury that's literally right next to Apple's HQ, not a surprise I guess. Here's hoping the Appeals Court destroys this retarded ruling |

Apple, in all due graciousness in winning, has immediately applied for injunctions to stop all related Samsung sales in the US. So much for coughing up license fee negotiation. err.

Earthquake swarm puts California areas on edge
On Sunday, a swarm of earthquakes shook Imperial County on Sunday and were felt in surrounding counties. Most were minor, but two registered at magnitude-5.5 and magnitude-5.3. Scientists say the aftershocks and jolts could last for days. source: http://phys.org/news/2012-08-earthqu...reas-edge.html ================================= ================================= ================================= What Apple's $1B victory means for consumers will this drive Samsung out of the phone business? That's not likely. The verdict doesn't apply outside the U.S. and doesn't apply to the latest Samsung devices either. The $1 billion in damages represents 1.5 percent of Samsung Electronics Co.'s annual revenue. source: http://phys.org/news/2012-08-apple-1...consumers.html |

One thing about Americans is that they have this general paradigm that nothing is impossible, and they have a knack of finding answers to age-old questions in their backyard instead of a science laboratory.
Just type in "Pulse gun" on youtube; people actually build that as a hobby with mere influence from science fiction. It is like telling reality "fuck you" in its face while mixing a exotic explosive to blow it up behind your back. It isn't about intellectual capital - there is a need to have science to constantly influence and drive these kids rather than lessons in school. Given how the subjects are taught in school today, it would almost be correct to equate Creationism to the other subjects on the indicator of ridiculousness.

Reconstructing the genetic makeup of a girl who lived and died 50,000 years ago from a sample from a finger bone.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/science/20...?newsfeed=true This article doesn't seem to satisfy my curiosity Quote:
How many genetic differences does it require for something to be considered a different species? |

Or is that 34 different mutations caused by modern deseases that can cause alterations (albinos perhaps? blandness? various eye problems? cleft chins?) These are thing that don't effect everyone, but do effect some people genetically.
As for genetic differences changing the species....just look at how many kinds of dogs there are when they are all considered the same species. Just different breeds.
