A lot. Taijutsu doesn't require chakra, but it does require stamina. As we saw after Gai opened the 7 gates and later couldn't even fend off a shark due to exhaustion. All ninja need a set amount of chakra to live. So even though Gai isn't molding chakra with taijustu, he still needs it to live. While Kisame showed the ability to use water jutsu to drain another ninja's chakra from their jutsu, Samehada can directly drain chakra from around an area. Much more effective.

Also Kisame being able to merge with Samehada would be huge. It gives him the power of a tailed beast. And direct contact with Kisame's skin in this mode will drain chakra. This helps him against a taijutsu user.

Kisame is also capable of instant regeneration with Samehada around even without it touching anything.

In his 2008 Jump Festa interview he said he didn't want to do anything with Taka, but his editors at Shueisha told him he had to show their fights.

Both the Kirabi and Raikage fights seemed to be a fulfillment of that promise since Kishi quickly broke up Taka after the Kage Summit and discarded Juugo and Suigetsu. Don't expect much more than a cameo from them in the future. Suigetsu doesn't even have Kisame to go after. Kishi didn't care at all to continue that rivalry storyline which tells you everything. All of their screentime was based on being Sasuke's lackeys. Without following him, they are nothing to the plot. Karin though latched onto Naruto and Konoha so she still has some story left.

Well, not that I thought they were even slightly interesting, I just find it odd that characters just disappear like that. At least tell us something like "They've been captured" or "They've been killed".

Realizing her tenuous place in the story, Karin wisely turned her fangirling from Sasuke to Naruto. Smart girl. Go for the guy with the bigger...charkra.

What's funny was that some thought Kisame was going to survive because of Suigetsu. Like there had to be a big Kisame vs. Suigetsu fight. Well Kishimoto laughed at that. A). Suigetsu was nowhere near Kisame's league and probably never will be even in 15 years. B). Gai was Kisame's only rival. C). Kishimoto never cared about Taka/Hebi. Once Sasuke dumped them, so did the mangaka. The exception is Karin who is the dark horse for Naruto's baby machine.

Perhaps Karin will still get killed, after all she knows some of Sasuke's and Madara's secrets. Either Sasuke or Madara could do it.

She is one of those who fulfilled her role in the story, so she will "retire" to be one of the fangirls of the main character (she already likes Naruto's chakra) as usual in shonen manga. Such fangirls are now Tenten, Ino, Temari and Hinata. Karui will also become one of these fangirls when her role is done

Tenten and Temari don't strike me as fangirls. Yeah, Tenten follows Neji around, but doesn't drool over him. And Temari doesn't really fangirl Shikamaru although we don't know what she thinks of him pwning an Akatsuki. That might make her hot.

The honest to goodness fangirls in this manga are Sakura(Sasuke), Ino(Sasuke), Hinata(Naruto), Karin(recovering Sasuke addict), Konan(Nagato), Shiho(Shikamaru), and Terumī Mei(any guy with a pulse). Karui will be dragged kicking and screaming into fangirldom.

Hopefully Kurotsuchi and Samui will be left alone.

It allows Kisame to breath and be very agile under water...which Guy blasted apart. And I really don't think it'd be a good idea to use it as a sword against what is apparently the series greatest taijutsu user with seven gates open.

Plus, Kisame's final jutsu was pretty serious. I don't think there's any indication the loss of his sword actually made him weaker. Sure, he lost some of his chakra absorption capabilities and shark-form, but he's clearly still capable of performing jutsu that may be different, but are at least as powerful. He lost some versatility, not strength.

• Super speed
• Instant regeneration
• Chakra sensing ability
• Hightened chakra absorbtion (and yes Gai uses chakra like everybody else, opening the Gates is removing the limitation on the chakra flow in the first place)

You can't fight in close combat against Kisame fused with Samehada because you loose your chakra just by being near him, he would have known Gai's attack wasn't chakra because he would have felt it, he might have been able to dodge it with his super speed and he could have regenerated his wound even if he had been hit.

Kisame is very powerful in his own right but Samehada is one of the most powerful "weapon" in the show so of course you're better off fighting with it.

Sakura is an exception, she is one of the main characters like Sasuke, so they'll be in the main story until the end of the manga. Even if Sakura-haters don't like that
