Apparently it only goes red if you attack a green player.

It was nice, fun episode, that took a little breather from the heavy action lately. Just like that, instant family. Kirito, you dog you.

Yui seems like a program, which still lacks complete AI programming; hence, she seems to have "amnesia. Her actions affected the whole system at the end of the episode, so she has to figure to probably be a part of it. Yes, the .hack// resemblance is strong with this one.

Spoiler for spoilers from last episode:
The player he killed was a red/orange player, so it did not affect his status.

Wow did the pace slow down. It went from jumping months to days. Those army guys are pretty weak. Why ask for pennies and low level equip from people who likely don't go far. They can probably kill a couple monsters in level 30s in a couple minutes and earn more than from harassing those kids. Good showing of bullying of the weak in game I guess.

Oh cool the appearance of the old man fishing, an answer to the Q&A question I asked. He needs more screen time! Level of avatar, level of gear, level of catch. More, more more!

Edit in: I thought it was explained there's only green and orange status by posters. Maybe I stopped reading the replies early.

Spoiler for spoilers from last episode:
Orange cursor is for players who committed a crime, but it doesn't make distinction between those who hit someone or those who killed. That's why you have the slang red player that denotes those who are known PKers. This is explained during Silica and Kirito's talk in the restaurant in Ep. 4. Where as Green players that attack orange players don't turn orange is inferred during Rosalia and Kirito's talk near the end but you need to pay attention to nuances and subtleties of the conversations in that episode.

Spoiler for Note about Light Novel:

SAO anime is a show where you miss a lot if you're not paying attention. I started reading the LN after the murder mistery episodes but even back when I watched Ep. 4 I understood what they referred to green, orange, red (slang for PKers) and when you turn or not.

BTW, orange, not red. Red is just what they call PK players.

No, a player cursor can never turn red. "Red players" are those who kill others, it's just a term normal players use (it's another way of calling them PKers, basically). Their cursors are orange. Player cursors can only be green or orange. If a green player attacks a person with an orange cursor, they can kill them without there being any ramifications.

Edit: Ninja'd. Multiple times. Damn it. :<

Just watched Ep.11, nice change of pace, from all the action/battles last time.
The only thing that was somewhat strange was that even if you don't take damage in safe zones, wouldn't it be harassment if a player keeps attacking you inside the area?

but the beauty of it is that Asuna didn't attack the player. She attack the space near the player

Red, orange, it's from the same part of the spectrum.

I would imagine if someone were following you around doing it you could appeal to a GM, but good luck on that happening in this game

I felt kind of bored at the first 2/3rds of this episode. I like Yui, but...it felt a bit too slow at the start. I know that was intentional and all, but...

I don't know. It was lacking something for me.
5/10 on this one. >.>

It is, but the show cares enough to differentiate between the two.

As they said in the episode, she doesn't fit the parameters of an NPC. Even monsters and NPCs have cursors. Normal NPCs can't be moved, it's treated like player harassment. A quest giving NPC would result in an update of some sort to their quest log, so she shouldn't be that either. Furthermore, Yui's clothes were changed before they came to town, and since all clothing changing is done via menu in SAO, she must have a functioning menu, which wouldn't be standard for NPCs either.

So since she doesn't fit the usual criteria for a NPC, they figure she's a player. Just a young, traumatized player as she doesn't look to be older than ten or so at best.

You can't die, but a bunch of kids isn't going to be able to forcibly push past them either. The durability of their equipment is going to be much greater than anything the kids have on, and getting hit isn't fun, even if it doesn't hurt. So while to some extent it's a matter of "who gives up first?" the large army group has a distinct advantage over the small group of kids.

overall an ok episode. although it makes you wonder who they draw this for. i don't remember a single female character drawn badly. even this sensei was drawn nicely. the boy, besides the usual main character hair cut, height, and build, has to look cool. but many other male characters are masked soldiers, old, fat, or just a plain kid who hasn't grown up to be a fat cloned thug.
The masked soldiers thing falls under "makes things easier on the animators." Instead of trying to create a bunch of subtly difference faces, the faces are mostly hidden and what's left can easily be forgiven for looking virtually the same.

The anti-harassment system is meant to automate dealing with sexual harassment. As such, attacks aren't considered harassment. When in a safe zone, it isn't even considered criminal to attack someone as the system prevents you from harming them.

Speaking of which, I hate the fact that the character designers took the lazy route with most of the background characters. As an MMO where people are forced to have their own faces, I'd expect it to be a great opportunity for people to look nothing like their profession, but without exception the designers make knights look like knights, lumberjacks look like lumberjacks, etc. I guess the latter was just a story being told be Kirito, but I feel like even the animators have forgotten that this is a game. Lumberjacks don't need to be stout men with mustaches.

Since SAO has player collision, the kids couldn't get past the Army thugs... so they'd have to wait for rescue or do what the nasty adults say... and since they had already stripped their armor / weapons off, there wouldn't be much more they could remove without... well... yah. And you surely don't expect three young children to carry around much cash.

The army soldiers all look identical, because of their armor, but most of the standard male characters all look different enough, and we've seen enough variety in recent episodes.

And if you're wondering why an anime show is full of cute girls, you've probably already lost ^_^

Since Kirito didn't see the Lumberjack in question, having him look like a steretypical lumberjack does sorta make perfect sense.

Also, since character avatar's don't really seem to age (two years later, remember) it's quite possible she was younger than eight when SAO started. That's awfully young, assuming she joined with her parents on day one a lot could go wrong in that time period. And since this episode showed us other young children, it's fairly obvious kids are indeed trapped in here.

Upon rewatching the episode, I noticed that it was from Asuna's perspective. We hear her inner thoughts, and see things that only she sees (ie: other people being asleep).

nice episode overall, but kinda bit boring, anyway I didn't expect Asuna to be this playful, I thought she would be more strict.

Well, part of her character arc is that she was forcing herself to be strict for the guild, right? Because she thought it was the best way to escape the game. I don't think it was ever implied to be her natural personality.

So, some were adamant there was absolutely nothing more that could have been shown in previous episodes with regards to KiritoxAsuna's romance build up. But then, and I quote Asuna:

"He isn't younger than I am, is he?"

Cheesy love confirmed? She doesn't even know his age? Should I be surprised if she doesn't even know his full name? Unless that was some bad translation or something added in the anime, that is totally weak.

Otherwise, slow episode really. Have to wait and see where it goes. But at least Yui interrupted the cheese. At first I thought she was that chick who died in that party Kirito joined. Hair looked similar. Thankfully, it's not that bad of a twist.

Umm, WE don't even know his name... remember?

Also, that's a pretty standard MMO trope. I've played MMO's for damn near a decade and I really only knew the real names of a few player's, and it feels highly weird to be referred to with my own real name in a MMO... not something I enjoy much personally, and it's got nothing to do with role playing.
