Japanese whaling industry 'dead in the water', says animal welfare group

Quote:
Japan's whaling industry is "dead in the water" and cannot survive without huge taxpayer subsidies, according to a study.

The report, to be published on Tuesday by the charity International Fund for Animal Welfare (Ifaw), draws on Japanese government data for the first time to build a case against the use of millions of dollars in public subsidies to prop up the industry amid a dramatic decline in consumption of whale meat.

I always assumed that if I dug down I'd find that someone's brother or cousin was in the whaling industry, that it was cronyism pure and simple that drove the heavy subsidization.

Can a bobsled help resuscitate Japan's dying workshops?

Reading this immediately brought to mind the recent anime Showa Monogatari, a slice-of-life story set in 1964 Tokyo about a family whose father owns a small machine shop. While I don't think the shop was located in Ota, the culture of craftsmanship and quality this article describes is a central aspect of that story.

I hope their bobsleds beat the pants off their competitors like Ferrari and BMW.

Is it really ok to have a bath in some other people's house? I meant the people who will take the bath....

All I could think of when reading this was the "serial bather" episode of the remarkable television series Picket Fences: http://www.hulu.com/watch/56#i0,p0,d0

I can say for certain it wasn't OK in that story.

Depends how long you're staying. If you're staying more then a night or two, it's probably fine. As with everything of course, you should ask first though.

Most of the time the host will either ask or offer. Just don't be the one to say it first.

The alternative would be a very cranky C2F, so usually I have never met any resistance in my pursuit of cleanliness.

That being said, those friends usually have their own bathroom so...

So have you ever let a friend/classmate of yours take a bath in your house who happen to be just visiting? and also two/three? Nothing naughty there....

It's really embarrassing...you know..

After taking a shower do you casually just walk around naked + towel so a convenient misunderstanding can happen?

No reason, I'm just assuming you have something embarrassing hanging around your bathroom hence why you wouldn't want people to use it...

No People can use my bathroom freely as they please so long as I don't know the details.

Likewise, I wouldn't hesitate to help myself in theirs... What are friends for right?
