A rather big battle starts here, so I'll try to post the next few parts as quickly as possible.

Ah, my first attempt at first person writing. I hope its good.

Episode 06: A New Threat – Part 1


I couldn’t take my eyes off the blue-haired girl that was flying towards us. She seemed like a regular girl from afar, but, once you see her clearly, her body was anything but human. Why would they bother making a robot look human, I wonder?

She arrived quickly to our location, and without uttering a single word she levitated beside us, staring at us without a blink.

I was scared… That eerie look on her eyes… it sent shivers down my spine… And that stench of blood… it made me sick to my stomach.

Without noticing, I quickly proceeded to hug myself… but suddenly I sensed a hand on my shoulder. “Oswald…” I said softly, as I looked at him. He gave me a smile and a small nod; as if assuring me that nothing is wrong… Did he notice I was disturbed…?

He then moved in between me and the android, and opened a holodisplay.

“Scaglietti, I hope you remember our agreement.”

“Yes, as a matter of fact I do. While originally I had intended to give my new little toy some real action, I won’t mind… if you can entertain me instead.”

He smirked. That made me so angry. Why would Oswald listen to someone as creepy and sick as him? “You sic—”

… I tried to say, but I noticed Oswald signaling me with his right hand not to continue. Oswald… aren’t you mad…? He’s using us and the one you love for his sick games… What does he really want?

“You don’t have to worry about that,” Oswald answered, calm as always. “You just make sure you keep your end of the bargain, or I can assure you we will blow this little toy of yours to pieces.”

“Hehehehe. As expected from a Dark Knight. I will keep that in mind.”

“Good.”

“Oh, and regarding him, the ‘seal’ has been unlocked.” The bastard continued. Won’t he leave us alone? “He should awaken in a few minutes.”

“I see. Well then, this concludes the first part of our deal. We don’t have anything else to say to you, so…” Oswald said, as he closed the holodisplay. Thank goodness.

“What an annoyin—” I was shouting, but again Oswald stopped me, this time closing my mouth with his left hand.

“Baka,” he whispered, “he can still see us, and probably even hear us.” He then released me.

“H-How?” I softly answered.

“The android… and probably even spy drones.”

“Who is this guy anyway?” I knew he is somehow involved with Oswald and Krynu, and the Relics they have inside. Still, I wanted to know more.

“We’ll tell you later…”

While I still wanted to hear more, I was quite happy about those words. Those sad and worried eyes he had a bit earlier… what was he thinking? What is he thinking now? At least now I know there will be… a ‘later’…

“Anri.” He was looking at me… Was he calling me before? “Anri!”

“W-What is it?” I asked.

“You too, do not join this fight.”

“What are you saying? I can fight!”

“This will be a battle between Relic users—”

“Are you saying I cannot handle a Relic user?” I interrupted him. I cannot believe he doubts my skills. Sure, I do not have this ‘Relic’ inside me, but I can hold my own, just like Krynu!

“I don’t doubt your abilities…” He paused for a moment, and then continued. “Look, just leave it to Krynu and me this time. Please.”

“…” I wanted to fight… no… I wanted to help him. But the look on his eyes… I couldn’t refuse… “… OK.”

“If the situation gets bad, promise me you will get away immediately.”

I was surprised by those words… Could it be…? “Are you implying that there is someone down there capable of defeating you?”

“That’s what I hope…”

What did he mean by that? He ‘hopes’ one of them can kill him…? Why…?

“Are you ready, Krynu?”

“Of course.”

I’m sorry Oswald, but I cannot promise you that.

I will stay by your side until the end.

Episode 06: A New Threat – Part 2


Inside the cavern, the girls noticed that Rhea already came back with a couple buckets of water.

Rhea: *sigh* I was told not to fly so I wouldn’t draw any unnecessary attention… but I didn’t think this was going to be so tiring…

Gwendolyn: Rhea! Are you OK?
Rhea: Huh? What do you mean?
Ashelyn: Natalia said there were some people outside…
Rhea: I didn’t see anyone…

Oswald: Gwendolyn!
Gwendolyn: O-Oswald…? Is that you…?

Her eyes opened wider, as if in disbelief. She thought she’d never see him again. But even though she was happy, she could not help but think that something is wrong.

She then noticed Oswald’s companions: a tall, green-haired guy holding a giant mace with his right hand, a cute brunette in a yellow dress, and a weird looking girl with blue hair.

Emeralda: (This guy… Who is he?)
Natalia: (I don’t know. I haven’t met him before.)
Emeralda: (Hmm. They don’t seem to be coming just for a chat. Be careful.)
Natalia: (Right…)

Oswald: Hey, hey. Have you forgotten about me already?
Gwendolyn: But you look… somewhat different…
Oswald: It has been almost a year since we last saw each other, hasn’t it?
Gwendolyn: (That’s not it…)

He stopped for a moment, as he gazed at Gwendolyn’s eyes, but not because he didn’t know what to say. He knew there was no point in starting a conversation, since that was not his reason for coming here. So, he went straight to the point.

Oswald: I heard that Scaglietti also implanted a Relic in you…
Gwendolyn: Yes…
Oswald: Well then. I’ve come here… to test you.

The sudden change of his voice, as well as the now serious look in his face… it’s as if he was preparing for an attack… Gwendolyn did not know what to think.

Gwendolyn: W-What are you—?
Iris: Kisama… Are you here to pick a fight?
Oswald: … Yes. But first…

The knight in black armor looked at Rhea, who was standing next to the girls. Suddenly, something inside said boy started to glow. The yellow glow engulfed the boy as he moaned and tried to grab his own head to suppress the pain.

Ashelyn: Rhea!
Gwendolyn: Rhea! What is going on?
Iris: You bastard… what are you doing to him?!
Oswald: I’m not doing anything. This is Scaglietti’s work.
Iris: So you’re working for Scaglietti now?!
Oswald: I am not. However, this is something I did ask him to do… The awakening of Gaia.

The glow stopped and the boy stood up as if nothing had happened. This time, however, the look on his face was completely different. From what was an innocent boy’s face, now it is serious and dark.

Gwendolyn: R-Rhea, are you OK?
Gaia: Don’t call me that. My name is Gaia.

The boy had a slight smile on his face.

Iris and Ashelyn: *!*
Gwendolyn: *!* What are you saying…?
Oswald: I see… (He still has his memories… Good. That will make things easier.)
Iris: You!!

Grabbing her glaive, Iris leaped towards Oswald, but before she was able to strike him, the green-haired knight parried the attack with the shaft of his giant mace.

Krynu: Sorry, girl. Oswald is taken already.
Iris: Heh… That just means I’ll have to kill you first!

The man swung his mace at the attacker, but with the intention of making her jump away from the group so they could have more space to fight. The girl did just that, jumping to her right, and Krynu followed soon after.

Krynu: (Oswald also said good things about this girl… Let’s see what she’s got.) If you hold back… you’re going to die.
Iris: The same for you!!

Oswald: You’re my opponent, Gwendo—
Gaia: No, I will take care of them.
Oswald: (What? Did Scaglietti order him to attack the girls?)

Gaia kneeled down and touched the ground. The immediate area round the boy shook and started to crumble.

Gwendolyn: *!* Jump everyone!
Gaia: Earth Spikes!

A dozen spikes emerged from the floor at a very high speed. The girls were able to evade it thanks to Gwendolyn’s call. Natalia and Ashelyn moved to their right, near where Iris was, while Gwendolyn stayed in the air.

Gwendolyn: (Those spikes… They were aimed directly at our chest! He really intended to kill us…) Rhea! What’s wrong with you?
Gaia: I told you… Don’t call me that!

The boy jumped towards Gwendolyn with a sword made out of hard stone.

Gwendolyn: When did he—?

Meanwhile, as Gwendolyn was able to set a barrier to block Gaia’s attack, Dr. Scaglietti was watching the events through the android’s eyes.

Scaglietti: Gaia… An Earth Elemental Relic… Normally, one would think that an Earth Mage is not very powerful; and that is true. However, my Gaia…

The doctor could not help but smirk as he looked at the holodisplay. One of his most precious toys, one that he had created himself, a kid specifically created to contain one of the most powerful Lost Logia has now fully awakened.

Scaglietti: He not only controls the two basic properties of Earth Magic. The first, Bind, the power to hold things together, to solidify… he’s able to enhance anything, from weapons to armor, and make them harder and stronger. And the second, Break, the power that can reverse that binding effect, the power to destroy, breaking things permanently apart. But also…

Gwendolyn was struggling to evade all of Gaia’s attacks. He used his stone sword and also his spells Earth Spikes and Stone Dagger.

Gwendolyn: Rhea… listen to me…!
Gaia: How many times do I have to tell you, do not call me that!
Natalia: That’s enough!
Emeralda: (Idiot… don’t be so hasty!)

Natalia had gathered enough energy to fire an energy blast. With the size of a Divine Buster, the beam was aimed directly at Gaia.

The boy, however, did not even try to evade it. And instead, he smiled.

Gaia: Wailing Bonds.

An invisible wave, similar to a Barrel Shot, came out of Gaia’s body in the general direction of the attack. The energy beam was completely disintegrated as the outer layer of the wave touched it, leaving not a single sign of the spell in the air.

The wave reached Natalia, but, aside from sensing a bit of pressure, she was not harmed in any way.

Gwendolyn and Anri: *!*
Oswald: (So he has full control over that now, huh?)
Emeralda: *!* (No way…)
Natalia: …What happened?

But also… the Relic’s true power…

The ability to break the links between energy particles that form spells, effectively nullifying any offensive or defensive spells.

In a way, it works similarly to the Anti Magic-link Field; however, not only is it much stronger and effective, it is not a Field magic, and thus it does not have a range limit.

And one last thing… its side effect…

The energy particles become unstable and unresponsive, as if disoriented, preventing the use of spells that require energy gathering.

Brilliant…

Not only does he have the ultimate physical defense, but also the ultimate magical defense…

He is my best creation… My… masterpiece…

Next time, Oswald's Relic revealed, as well as (maybe) some Dark Energy explanations (still dont know if such explanation will fit... I'll probably have to use Scaglietti to explain some stuff again. This guy is quite useful, I tell ya! )

I was wondering when you're gonna pull Kureha into this. Nice. Maybe you could do a Souma too?

The idea of a Relic Swordsman (( capable of materializing a sword from Relic-energy properties of another LRW )) sounds interesting...

Anti-mage Relic Weapon huh? Oh well, at least you didn't give the ultimate offense paired with ultimate defense.

DAMN! Kosmos! She was my template for ARIA...oh well, mine is KOS-MOS Ver.4, anyway.

Natalia had gathered enough energy to fire an energy blast. With the size of a Divine Buster, the beam was aimed directly at Gaia.

The boy, however, did not even try to evade it. And instead, he smiled.

Gaia: Wailing Bonds.

An invisible wave, similar to a Barrel Shot, came out of Gaia’s body in the general direction of the attack. The energy beam was completely disintegrated as the outer layer of the wave touched it, leaving not a single sign of the spell in the air.

The wave reached Natalia, but, aside from sensing a bit of pressure, she was not harmed in any way.

The ability to break the links between energy particles that form spells, effectively nullifying any offensive or defensive spells.

In a way, it works similarly to the Anti Magic-link Field; however, not only is it much stronger and effective, it is not a Field magic, and thus it does not have a range limit.

And one last thing… its side effect…

The energy particles become unstable and unresponsive, as if disoriented, preventing the use of spells that require energy gathering.

Brilliant…

Not only does he have the ultimate physical defense, but also the ultimate magical defense…

He is my best creation… My… masterpiece…

Next time, Oswald's Relic revealed, as well as (maybe) some Dark Energy explanations (still dont know if such explanation will fit... I'll probably have to use Scaglietti to explain some stuff again. This guy is quite useful, I tell ya! )

The display on Khaydarin shows 10 magic signatures asides from my own within a hundred meter radius. Four are large ones, belonging to Smith, Wesson, and Glock just north of my position, and forming as a single massive signature Mai and Xealot to my west. The six others are incredibly small yet distinct signatures. By its description, it’s apparent to that they’re Snipe Eyes planted there by Wesson.

And one of them was directly across the street, looking at us.

[High-speed object approaching.]

Rei warned just in time for me to dodge a Stinger Snipe as it smashed the counter behind me.

“Flash Step!”

More Stinger Snipes darted past like comets, smashing the ground behind me as I blasted my way out. For someone with SS class accuracy sure can’t shoot well. You need to do better than that Wesson!

As of current jump, Wesson was nested on the roof of a high-rise condominium in the middle of Forrest Square, an intersection with line of sight to every major road within a mile. Smith was several floors below, keeping watch to the south, Kay’s expected approach. And I posted myself at the foot of the building, just outside the entrance.

A holodisplay opens with Smith on the line.

“You sure about this plan Glock? Once Mai gets here you’re on your own.”

That was the weakness in our arrangement. Mai has the advantage of teleportation on her side. Along with Kay’s detection spells means she’s already on to us. Smith and Wesson would have to relocate often to evade Mai, as their weaknesses lay in their inability to cover themselves in melee combat. And it was worrisome that Mai was nowhere to be seen on Wesson’s surveillance.

“Keep moving, and keep me covered as long as possible until Mai catches up with you two. Our objective here is to tire Kay out and assess the capabilities of her Barrier Jacket configuration. I’ll engage once Kay gets near enough, and in the meantime you two keep Mai occupied."

“We can keep her occupied all day if you like!”

“And all night too-”

“Smith, Photon Cluster once Kay reaches 8th Avenue by the next intersection. She can’t get across it without exposing herself. ”

An explosion by my feet forced my only option.

I ran across the street, more Stinger Snipes arced and weaved through the streets, blasting the ground behind me. Wesson could’ve nailed me with that shot, so why…

A massive blue ball streaked across the sky towards us. And only one spell from the twin’s arsenal fit that description.

“Oh FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-!!“

The entire plaza erupted in a cacophony of explosions as the blue death rain fell down.

“ROUND SHIELD!!!”

More blue rain peltered the round shield, and even more blasting the concrete around me, choking the air with thick, grey smoke. It only lasted a few seconds, but it felt like eternity.

I had expected Glock to wear his standard Issue Barrier jacket, but instead he wore a tight-fitting sleeveless blue muscle shirt, and matching blue jeans. He looked more like a factory worker than a Clerk.

“What is up with that outfit?!”

“The rule state a direct hit to the barrier jacket equals defeat. The less barrier jacket to hit, the better the chances of winning.”

“Glock you cheat…”

“Balance Kay. I gave our team a handicap, so I must give myself an advantage.”

Technicalities. Maybe having a full body suit and scarf wasn’t the best choice for Buster Form. I must say, his BJ doesn’t look too bad, shows off his rugged physique pretty well…

1. I agree here, and definitely the AeC should be an Admiral power! As for super-weapons, I'm sure the Controlled Dimensional Dislocator would be useful. Saint Church can "Wrath of God" somehow, and the Regional Guard can use Orbital Bombardment and the Siegel von Antioch

Saint Church is an old-school faction, ala Warcraft, so yeah a Wrath of God super power is very plausible.

Background:
Bulgakov was born in Yeleninskoye, Russia on MC 0008. His father, Gregori Bulgakov, was a Red Army sergeant that fought in Stalingrad and worked with the village's most famous inhabitant, Vasily Grigoryevich Zaitsev. His mother, Yelena Bulgakov, worked in the tank yards of the Ural Mountains. Alexi's childhood life was normal, and he learned how to survive in the wilderness by his father, who took him hunting when he was 6. He learned how to shoot a rifle, and how to fight in close combat, things that would help him later, when he was 10. When he and his father went out hunting, a fierce storm came, and Alexi had lost sight of his father. Alone, cold, and without a sense of direction, Alexi eventually wandered into a cave, where something else resided. A shadow copy of someone was also in that cave, and was starting to attack Alexi. It was nearly a one-sided fight, but Alexi then got something attached to his fists: the Dual Device that would become his for years to come, Potemkin. By sheer force and luck, Alexi managed to beat the shadow copy of someone, and Potemkin spoke to him, saying that it was unlocked. At first, Alexi was pretty freaked out that something was talking to him, but he managed to calm himself down, and ask what Potemkin was. After finding out about Potemkin, he stayed in that cave, until the storm blew over. When he went back to the village after that, it was found out that his father had died trying to search for the boy, frozen to death. Other villagers found his body just 3 hours before Alexi came back. This hurt him deeply, to think that his father died looking for him. That wasn't all, though, as his mother contracted pneumonia and died three weeks later. Alone again, he ran away and was caught in another storm. He fell unconscious, and surely would have died if not for a mage from Mid-Childa and an Ustio user: Niva Destrill. On a reconaissance trip, she found the boy near-dying, got him into an abandoned house, and nursed him back to health. She knew that it was a mission that was secret and that she can't be seen by the prople living there, but she felt pity for the boy, and also saw his Device. When Alexi woke up, he was scared out of his mind that someone who had probably saved him was now holding a sword, with the blade near his throat. She told Alexi what was happening and gave him two choices: either follow her to finish this mission and back to Mid-Childa, or die by her blade. Reluctantly, he agreed to follow her, and so he was forced to be with someone that can kill him, although he didn't have any plan if he refused her choice. This day, though, turned out to be anything but a normal recon mission. Unbeknownst to both of them, the mission Niva got was leaked, and several rogue mages were planning an ambush to take her down. The ambush went as planned, and Niva surely would have been killed...if not for Alexi himself. Alexi showed his magical ability in the ambush, and nobody expected him to have a lot of magical prowess. He managed to both protect Niva and take down all of the rogue mages, and he showed that the Linker Core he had was sufficient enough to use the Ustio magic style longer than 10 minutes. After that, Alexi just stood over the people that he had taken down, contemplating on what could happen. Then, in a sudden move, he told Niva that he'll follow her, there was nothing that can be done to have a life he knew before. Niva was impressed, and both of them left, but not before Niva let Alexi see his village one last time. And so they went to Mid-Childa, and Alexi started a new life as an Ustio mage.

Getting to Mid-Childa, he was then put into the training academy, where he had a lot of trouble. He always was thinking of something else and controlling his magical energy was more than a hassle for Alexi. So, Niva was forced to help him. At first, he either couldn't or didn't try. He still couldn't get the thought of what happened away, and that distracted him. Whatever he was thinking, there was one reality, he was in another world with seemingly no one else that he could relate with, until he met Gil Graham, Julian Fredrick Asteright, and Jennifer Wright. It was purely by accident, but it was one that would impact him for the rest of his life. In a rush, he literally bumped into them. After saying sorry to them, he was about to run again when they asked him why he was in a rush. Alexi responded that he needed to go back to his room because he forgot his Device. What he didn't know was that Potemkin was with him; he didn't notice it. Fortunately, Graham knew and told him about it. Alexi was visibly embarrassed, but they forgave him. Then, they asked him to join them, and so Alexi did. He found out that they were from Earth, and came here on similar grounds. He started to be with them, and he eventually started to improve. By the time everyone graduated, he was one of the top trainees, and he was proud of it. After he was done training, he was sent into the 1st Expeditionary Strike Team, with Graham, Asteright, Young, and several others he had known.

By age 27, he was one of the top Captains in the TSAB, and his ability to both hit and take hits hard gave him the moniker of the "Stone Hammer". He served in the 1st Expeditionary Strike Team along with Graham, Young, and Asteright, being the proverbial "tank" in bad situations. He served greatly, until the mission into Ghostgate happened. During that time, the mission went terribly wrong, and almost all of Alexi's group were killed. Alexi himself was on the verge of getting killed, but he managed to get to the evacuation point. He recovered fully, but he felt responsible somehow for the deaths of every one of his group members, something that would bother him for years to come. When the Team was dissolved, Alexi was placed into the 36th Investigative Unit, but he couldn't shake off what happened at Ghostgate, preventing him from going any further, something that might have paved the way for what happened in September 0042. Hearing that a rogue mage was nearby a power plant near the capital, he and another mage named Bridget Stada, who he had taken an interest to, were sent there to deal with the mage.When they got there, Alexi saw both of Graham's familiars and asked them what was going on. Before Lizette and Lotte could explain, an explosion cut them off. Worried that Graham might be in trouble, Alexi, Lizette, and Lotte went inside while Bridget volunteered to stay behind. Alexi wanted her to come with them, but she refused, and she stayed near the entrance. Inside, they found Graham, and someone else they hadn't expected: Julian Fredrick Asteright, which they thought that he was dead. Alexi managed to take down Julian, but he got up soon after. There, Alexi was forced to fight one of his former friends, and when the fight was over, he was shocked as much as Graham about what just happened. Worse, when they got out, they found Bridget clinging to life; she had been attacked by Asteright when he was escaping. Healing her proved to be useless, as her injuries were already mortal wounds, but before she died, she made Alexi promise one thing: that if her sister, Rachel, became a mage, that he would have to protect her in any way possible. He agreed, and she died, leaving Alexi with both a deep hole in his heart and deep anger for Asteright.

He stayed with the 36th Investigative Unit, and even stayed when the 36th was reformed into the 216th Special Combat Unit. Being a Captain, he was asked to lead the first combat unit, Sky Squad, for his experience. He accepted, albeit with a lot of reluctance, and so led the first squad. Finding potential people to be placed with, he found a lot, but there were two that interested him the most: Rachel Stada, Bridget's sister, now a full-blown mage, and one other person: Satoshi Kazukuni. Having first seen him in the training academy, Satoshi reminded Alexi a lot of himself in his younger years. Eventually, both of them came to the 216th, and there, they both met Alexi. He and Satoshi trained with each other, with Alexi winning most of the mock battles, he learned much about Satoshi, including his father and how he died. Alexi knew him from being with the 36th and they were close friends, so he felt like he should help Satoshi as much as he could, leading Satoshi to long nights sparring with Alexi. He still trained with everyone else fairly, but he trained Satoshi slightly more due to the same style of magic. Doing this, he was reminded of the times when he was training with Niva, who had become a Major General and working in the TSAB HQ, on these same long nights. He still treated everyone else equally in Sky Squad, but a lot could tell that Satoshi and Alexi were close. With Rachel, he couldn't bear to see her die and betray Bridget's request, but she followed with Sky Squad, acting as Vice-Commander. He usually kept her out of battle, which led to some arguments, and some casualties, but he didn't have the heart to tell Rachel about her sister. As a result, they were usually distant with each other. He finally managed to tell Rachel about the truth while, on a mission, he took a magical blast to protect Rachel, when she was caught off-guard. This injured him seriously, since he had no chance to put any defensive spells up, and told her about her sister and the promise he made to her while he was transported to a hospital. As Sky Squad performed, he had to command a lot of young people, a lot of which died under him. He often lived with the burden of those deaths, something members of Sky Squad such as Satoshi, Sydney, and Rachel could feel. He thought of switching out of the unit, retiring, or even committing suicide, but Niva, who had known about this, stopped him from doing that. As more people became casualties, including Satoshi himself, he felt the pain of the cost of being a leader, but he decided to get through it and not think about it; it would bar him from doing his duty. As the years went by, the former commanding officer of the 216th, Major Steven Renault, retired, and selected Alexi to take his place, becoming a Major in the process. He then, in turn, put Satoshi as leader of Sky Squad. Rachel also went with Alexi, being the executive commander. One of Major Alexi's first plans was to make a second unit instead of having a large group of people on one squad, and so Thunder Squad was born, with two former Sky Squad members leading the group. He also approved the forming of Riot Force 6, after a lot of persuading from Satoshi, who had known the Aces, and fighting the Aces himself. It turned out to be a draw, and Alexi was clearly impressed with the 3 of them. Now, he's just doing his job as the commander of the 216th....

Personality:
He's one to have fun all the time normally, and he acts like an idiot to those who haven't known him that much, leading to a lot of people that are pissed with him rather than happy with. It doesn't help that he drinks a lot too, especially what the 97th Non-Adminstered World call vodka, as he tends to be even more of an idiot. That's just his way of having fun, though, and to the people that know him, he's a perfectly capable commander, able to make quick and decisive decisions when the time comes. He's pretty smart, and understands a lot of cultures from around his homeworld and in Mid-Childa. He's a tough individual for his age, which surprises most people. In battle, he's one not to be taken lightly. His fierce determination and toughness makes him a dangerous, even deadly, opponent. He is crafty, and will use his spells and everything available to take down a target. Inside, he's seen death, but he also has a lot of resolve, and won't let anyone's death be in vain.

Device:

-Dual Device Potemkin

Alexi's own Dual Device, Potemkin is the main system, and the one that Alexi uses the most. In it's sealed state, it takes the form of a black and gold chain. In it's Wraithguard Form, it resembles two fingerless gloves with a crimson-colored metallic loading system. It serves two other functions besides loading cartridges and discharging excess heat: it keeps the non-metallic parts with a invisible layer of magical energy, and it prevents them from breaking apart, although it is very unlikely. On Alexi's wrist, there is a semi-circle attached to the loader. That is the cartridge for Potemkin, holding about 50 caseless cartridges total (25 on right hand, 25 on left hand). It has a male AI, capable of speaking English, German, and Russian, and its personality seems to be like a weary warrior. Unlike other Dual Devices, it does not have any other forms, probably attributed to a lack of a major update. The lack of forms is made up for in Potemkin's apparent strength and protection; even punching through an AMF field, Potemkin shows no signs of damage, and Alexi has abused it to the point where other Devices would have broke.

Alexi's Dual System Storage Device, and one that Alexi uses in special occasions, like Satoshi. It resembles a PTRS-41, an anti-tank rifle from the 97th Non-Administered World. Like the weapon that it is based on, it is heavy and slow to fire. It is also not good for stealth, as it is also loud. It can fire far, though, and it is very strong. It carries 5 extremely long and big cartridges, made by combining 6 caseless cartridges into one round. It has a male AI, which acts like someone who is new, which Alexi finds amusing.

Incantation:

As the old light passes and a new one begins, I will be the spearhead and break the darkness to guide the new light to its place. Potemkin, Set Up!

Fighting Style:
His style of fighting is basically to fool someone and switching to another style of fighting. Most people would think that he fights strong but slow, and try to use speed, but Alexi has the ability to move quickly, fooling them and then taking down the opponent any way he can. He is an adept fighter, and will randomly switch his way of fighting to keep them on their toes. He uses his spells very well, and is not afraid to spam cartridges if he needs to. Combining these abilities and his experience fighting, he can be a extremely helpful ally or a dangerous enemy. He prefers to not kill, only when forced to.

Barrier Jacket:
His Barrier Jacket has gone through some changes during the years. When he first made the Barrier Jacket, it was basically a copy of the Red Army's World War II uniform. By age 27, he had changed it a bit, from the bottom being covered with a long skirt of sorts and red metallic boots. Currently, his Barrier Jacket is a black T-shirt covered by a bright orange combat vest. He wears water camo combat pants, with black boots. He also wears a scarlet beret, with the 216th Special Combat Unit insignia attached to it.

Eagle's Eye: Same as Satoshi's Eagle's Eye, Alexi taught this to Satoshi. His is different in that he has honed this so much that he doesn't have the problems Satoshi would have himself when using this and he can also use this for long-distance targeting. His eye color changes from steel gray to a steel blue, a major change compared to Satoshi's eyes when he uses this.

Ground Break: Alexi uses the ground to bind himself down, this is helpful for Odessa's more powerful attacks, as not using it would knock Alexi back.
-Air Break: Alexi uses wind to slow down the kickback he gets when using Odessa's more powerful attacks.

Electropic Stealth: Same as Satoshi's own Electropic Stealth, this is one of the spells Alexi taught Satoshi. Unlike Satoshi, he can keep this up indefinitely at the cost of a lot of magic energy when used. Due to this, Alexi uses this in small bursts.


-Movement:

Mach Speed: Same as Satoshi's Mach Speed, he taught this to him. he is slower than Satoshi, but he can keep it up far longer than him.

Trapar Wave Flight: One of the few spells Alexi taught to Satoshi that Satoshi improved over Alexi's own version of it. It's nearly the same, except that Alexi leaves a distinct trail of wind when he flies.

-Offensive:

Burst Shooter: Same as Satoshi's own Burst Shooter. Alexi can fire more than Satoshi, at a cost of reducing the speed in which he can fire it.

Bunker Buster: Alexi makes a enormous arrow of magical energy, and punches it hard, enabling it to go through reinforced objects. Uses 4 cartridges.

Chain Breaker: Alexi collects magical energy, making several balls and an Ustio magic circle near them. When he punches them, it passes through the magic circle, becoming an extremely large beam. He can punch more for a spamming effect. Uses 2 catridges.

Lochender Schuß (Punching Shot): With Odessa, Alexi fires a bullet covered in magical energy. It can break through several Drones easily, and can punch through concrete like butter.

Stonehenge: Alexi's best attack with Odessa, Alexi uses all of the cartridges to make a shot that makes a sonic blast. It is extremely lethal, and could obliterate everything in its direction. It has the drawback of loading slow and if standing up or in flight, knocking him back a long distance.

Polaris: Alexi, using magical energy, attacks pressure spots, and the impact of magical energy blows up the pressure points, imploding the target. This is rarely used. Uses 6 cartridges.

Magnum Opera: Alexi temporarily makes Potemkin ditch itself under extremely high magical energy; the magical energy is then used to beat the collective crap out of targets. He then reforms Potemkin again. Due to the massive energy of this spell, it is very tiring for him. It is also Alexi's best spell with Potemkin. Uses 10 cartridges.

Haubitzefaust (Howitzer Fist): Same as Satoshi's own Habitzefaust, Alexi can hit faster and harder with his own version of the Habitzefaust. Unlike Satoshi's, Alexi has to use 2 cartridges for this.

Hammer Fall: Alexi makes an illusion of himself, hides, and then comes out of the air to elbow a target.

Spiker: Alexi covers Potemkin with magical spikes, and he can pierce targets with this. Uses 2 cartridges.
-Needler: Alexi can shoot out those spikes into a target. The individual spikes are not deadly individually, but Alexi fires these very fast. Uses 2 cartridges.

Erdbeben (Earthquake): Alexi punches the ground and uses magical energy to amplify the vibrations, enough to shake the area. He can also move the vibrations in one direction.

Sturmwind (Storm Wind): Alexi taught Satoshi a variation of this. His version is that he contains air on Potemkin, and punches it, making a wind bullet instead of a wind blade. The effect is still the same, though.

Pyro Kette (Pyro Chain): Alexi taught Satoshi this spell; his variation has his chains shorter than Satoshi's, but he can cast two at once, while Satoshi can only make one.

Infernal Bullet: With Odessa, Alexi fires a bullet that explodes on contact and leaves a fire, similar to napalm. Uses 2 cartridges.

Blaze Jet: One of the spells Alexi taught Satoshi, his variation lasts shorter than Satoshi's, but it is also heavily stronger and uses less magical energy to make. Uses 1 cartridge.

Elektrischefaust (Electric Fist): Alexi makes electricity to shock an enemy. He likes to say "Kuwabara, Kuwabara" as some sort of joke. Uses 2 cartridges.

Frozen Ground: Alexi freezes the area around him, avoiding friends, but haveing the potential to freeze enemies. Uses 3 cartridges.


-Defensive:

Variable Shield: Same as Satoshi's own Variable Shield, Alexi's has a bit more defensive ability than Satoshi's.

Advent Shield: Alexi taught Satoshi this spell, and with his variation, he can make 6 shields total, although they still cannot interlock. Uses 1 cartridge for every shield made.

Iron Skin: This reinforces Alexi's skin, making him stand hits that normally would have been dangerous.

Wind Stop: Another spell Alexi taught Satoshi, he can stop almost all sized projectiles at him, he can't stop large projectiles, though.

Focal Break: Another one Alexi taught Satoshi, this is one of only two spells that both of them use that can be said is exactly the same.

Bind Destroy: A variation of Bind Shatter, Alexi can destroy most binds in a short time, and he could destroy other people's binds too, at the cost of him taking longer to break his own bind.

Sturmgeist (Storm Sprit): Same as Satoshi's Sturmgeist, Alexi's variation is a sort of greenish electricity that covers him; it also serves as a way to absorb maigcal energy.

-Binds:

Schattenbindung (Shadow Bind): The second spell both Satoshi and Alexi uses that can be considered exactly the same.

Crush Bind: Alexi uses heavy magical binds to hold a target down. He can also crush them if needed to.

Trivia:
-Since Alexi got the rank of Major, everyone in the 216th has been calling him "Major," which he takes in stride.
-Every time since Satoshi, Sydney, or any others turned 21, Alexi's been offering a drink to them on some occasions. Some accept and others refuse.
-Nanoha, Fate, Hayate, and others call him "sofu-san" (grandfather), much to his chagrin. Taking on this joke, Alexi calls them "vnuchata" (внучата; "grandchildren" In Russian)
-He can eat and drink things that anyone else would have considered awful.
-Alexi has taught some people a bit of Russian, such as Satoshi, Vincent, and Rachel.
-He likes the outdoors, and when on vacation, would usually go there instead of being stuck in the city.
-He is also a sort of philosopher, but he doesn't consider himself a true philosopher.

Personalities: despite his moniker as the Sky Pirate, El Cid 1 believes in absolute honour and strictly practices the code of knighthood. He believes that he must respect each opponent challenges, even if his action causes chagrin among his superior.

FIREFOX

One of Aurelia’s many Mobius Devices and among a few aircraft-shaped Lost Logia, Firefox is just one of the world’s many super-planes and are classified as Tier 1, along with ADF-01 Falken, X-02 Wyvern and the original XFA-27A. It is an excellent fighter plane than can handle both aerial and ground threats with excellent hit rate.

When it was first built, Yuktobanian engineers foresaw a necessary requirement to match (or outperform) three of the world’s most advanced super-fighters: ADF-01 Falken built by Belka’s Grunder Industries, the XFA-72 and X-02 Wyvern designed by Erusean Aerospace Agency (EASA). Results from years of research and development led to the Firefox, an interceptor aircraft with stealth capabilities, to the point that it would be invisible to radar. The Firefox is originally designated as MiG-31 but in order to avoid confusion with the already existing MiG-31 Foxhound two-seat interceptor, it is given different designation code (which is later omitted as officials start referring to the airplane simply as “Firefox”).

Firefox is powered by two incredibly powerful scramjet engines that permit flight at hypersonic speeds, but their exhaust gives the plane a prominent infrared signature. To counteract this drawback, which would transform the plane into a huge magnet for heat-seeking devices, Firefox is equipped with backward-firing explosive charges that are fired at a pursuing plane or missile.

One of the most well-known features of the Firefox is its Thought-Controlled Weapons System (TCWS), which uses signals from the pilot’s brain to target enemies and fire weapons. It is believed that TCWS is a development of the COFFIN system, already used on the Falken but claimed by Yuktobanian software engineers many times better than the COFFIN.

As it is built to accommodate Aurelian magic modulator, Firefox can carry up to 84 Sidewinder standard heat-seeking missiles and 18 Meteor MDBA long-range air-to-air-missiles for air-to-air engagements. For air-to-surface sorties, the plane can carry 14 KH-31P anti-radiation missiles. Standard close-range engagement weapon consists of GSH-6-30 six-barrel rotary cannon installed inside gun fairing between the engine air intakes. Firefox’s most prominent weapon, however, is the RASM (Rolling Airframe Swarm Missile) system -- this hybrid air-to-air missile combines the best of both worlds (R-73 Archer’s super-manoeuvrability and Meteor’s multiple targeting lock-ons) and is exclusively designed for Firefox. All weapons are carried inside the plane’s weapon bay.

Other capabilities of the Firefox include a 3,000-mile un-refuelled range and flight ceiling over 120,000 feet.

Ten prototypes are built before the plane is to be deployed into active service for Yuktobanian Air Force. Eight of the planes are sent to Aurelian Archipelago during the Great Oceanic War to undergo battlefield tests, and under agreement between Yuktobania and Andalusia they are operated by the kingdom’s elite air unit Livingstone Squadron. Seven planes are used by the squadron throughout the war, but FIREFOX-101 (flown and operated by El Cid 1) stands out from the rest as it is extensively modified to accommodate the pilot’s Briton magic ability, particularly Noble Illusions. It is also the most recognized plane of all, with jet black/bright red paint job and the prominent “Jolly Roger” emblem on the two vertical stabilizers. Livingstone Squadron’s Firefoxes are also equipped with advance digital optical stealth system (which is later adopted by FENRIR, the next super-fighter). Despite their capabilities, the squadron is unable to defeat Swallow 7 and is destroyed along with the Ultimo Zeus inter-continental ballistic missile launched from Saint Helena.

As a Lost Logia, Firefox is regarded by TSAB officers as a high-value, “must-study” artefact -- if they can ever get a hand on it. So far, access to its blueprints or working models is restricted to Yuktobanian officials, and even TSAB can’t get their hand on the only other working Firefox (currently in the possession of the Freelance Air Force) that lacks either the DOS system or the capability of flying hypersonic.

DEFENSIVE ABILITIES

• Flight Suit: Aurelia’s variation of Barrier Jacket.
• Bastion: El Cid 1’s first magic, it is Tizona’s auto-guard spell. Although weak it can absorb attacks from all directions.
• Octagon Shield: a powerful one-direction protection spell that can withstand strong magical or physical attacks.
• Bind Break: El Cid 1 attempts to deactivate a binding or imprisoning spell; in Aurelia’s case, imprisoning spell refers to strong electromagnetic jamming frequency that destroys the aircraft by frying its equipment from inside out.
• Countermeasures: this is Tizona’s mode of defence after fused with FIREFOX-101 and deploys Aurelian magic decoys and sometimes jamming frequency to disrupt enemy’s detection system.
• Early Warning: analogous to “Perception” and the likes.
• Mirage: this unique ability allows El Cid 1 to create many alter-images of his plane, usually used in conjunction with Countermeasures.

FIREFOX

One of Aurelia’s many Mobius Devices and among a few aircraft-shaped Lost Logia, Firefox is just one of the world’s many super-planes and are classified as Tier 1, along with ADF-01 Falken, X-02 Wyvern and the original XFA-27A. It is an excellent fighter plane than can handle both aerial and ground threats with excellent hit rate.

When it was first built, Yuktobanian engineers foresaw a necessary requirement to match (or outperform) three of the world’s most advanced super-fighters: ADF-01 Falken built by Belka’s Grunder Industries, the XFA-72 and X-02 Wyvern designed by Erusean Aerospace Agency (EASA). Results from years of research and development led to the Firefox, an interceptor aircraft with stealth capabilities, to the point that it would be invisible to radar. The Firefox is originally designated as MiG-31 but in order to avoid confusion with the already existing MiG-31 Foxhound two-seat interceptor, it is given different designation code (which is later omitted as officials start referring to the airplane simply as “Firefox”).

Firefox is powered by two incredibly powerful scramjet engines that permit flight at hypersonic speeds, but their exhaust gives the plane a prominent infrared signature. To counteract this drawback, which would transform the plane into a huge magnet for heat-seeking devices, Firefox is equipped with backward-firing explosive charges that are fired at a pursuing plane or missile.

One of the most well-known features of the Firefox is its Thought-Controlled Weapons System (TCWS), which uses signals from the pilot’s brain to target enemies and fire weapons. It is believed that TCWS is a development of the COFFIN system, already used on the Falken but claimed by Yuktobanian software engineers many times better than the COFFIN.

As it is built to accommodate Aurelian magic modulator, Firefox can carry up to 84 Sidewinder standard heat-seeking missiles and 18 Meteor MDBA long-range air-to-air-missiles for air-to-air engagements. For air-to-surface sorties, the plane can carry 14 KH-31P anti-radiation missiles. Standard close-range engagement weapon consists of GSH-6-30 six-barrel rotary cannon installed inside gun fairing between the engine air intakes. Firefox’s most prominent weapon, however, is the RASM (Rolling Airframe Swarm Missile) system -- this hybrid air-to-air missile combines the best of both worlds (R-73 Archer’s super-manoeuvrability and Meteor’s multiple targeting lock-ons) and is exclusively designed for Firefox. All weapons are carried inside the plane’s weapon bay.

Other capabilities of the Firefox include a 3,000-mile un-refuelled range and flight ceiling over 120,000 feet.

Ten prototypes are built before the plane is to be deployed into active service for Yuktobanian Air Force. Eight of the planes are sent to Aurelian Archipelago during the Great Oceanic War to undergo battlefield tests, and under agreement between Yuktobania and Andalusia they are operated by the kingdom’s elite air unit Livingstone Squadron. Seven planes are used by the squadron throughout the war, but FIREFOX-101 (flown and operated by El Cid 1) stands out from the rest as it is extensively modified to accommodate the pilot’s Briton magic ability, particularly Noble Illusions. It is also the most recognized plane of all, with jet black/bright red paint job and the prominent “Jolly Roger” emblem on the two vertical stabilizers. Livingstone Squadron’s Firefoxes are also equipped with advance digital optical stealth system (which is later adopted by FENRIR, the next super-fighter). Despite their capabilities, the squadron is unable to defeat Swallow 7 and is destroyed along with the Ultimo Zeus inter-continental ballistic missile launched from Saint Helena.

As a Lost Logia, Firefox is regarded by TSAB officers as a high-value, “must-study” artefact -- if they can ever get a hand on it. So far, access to its blueprints or working models is restricted to Yuktobanian officials, and even TSAB can’t get their hand on the only other working Firefox (currently in the possession of the Freelance Air Force) that lacks either the DOS system or the capability of flying hypersonic.

I hid on a convenient abandoned convenience store, since using Ether Scan requires me to stand still and cast a magic array. But this’ll sniff out any magical signatures in the area instantly.

The display on Khaydarin shows 10 magic signatures asides from my own within a hundred meter radius. Four are large ones, belonging to Smith, Wesson, and Glock just north of my position, and forming as a single massive signature Mai and Xealot to my west. The six others are incredibly small yet distinct signatures. By its description, it’s apparent to that they’re Snipe Eyes planted there by Wesson.

And one of them was directly across the street, looking at us.

[High-speed object approaching.]

Rei warned just in time for me to dodge a Stinger Snipe as it smashed the counter behind me.

“Flash Step!”

More Stinger Snipes darted past like comets, smashing the ground behind me as I blasted my way out. For someone with SS class accuracy sure can’t shoot well. You need to do better than that Wesson!

Oh Kay. It’ll take her a while to realize that none of Wesson’s shots are intended to hit. But from Wesson’s Snipe Eye footage, I can see that even they were, Kay would have no difficulty evading the shots with her Flash Step. Her earlier Ether Scan means she already knows our exact location. Just as planned.

“Maybe she’s right. Try aiming a little closer Wes.”

“Roger that! Relocating!”

As of current jump, Wesson was nested on the roof of a high-rise condominium in the middle of Forrest Square, an intersection with line of sight to every major road within a mile. Smith was several floors below, keeping watch to the south, Kay’s expected approach. And I posted myself at the foot of the building, just outside the entrance.

A holodisplay opens with Smith on the line.

“You sure about this plan Glock? Once Mai gets here you’re on your own.”

That was the weakness in our arrangement. Mai has the advantage of teleportation on her side. Along with Kay’s detection spells means she’s already on to us. Smith and Wesson would have to relocate often to evade Mai, as their weaknesses lay in their inability to cover themselves in melee combat. And it was worrisome that Mai was nowhere to be seen on Wesson’s surveillance.

“Keep moving, and keep me covered as long as possible until Mai catches up with you two. Our objective here is to tire Kay out and assess the capabilities of her Barrier Jacket configuration. I’ll engage once Kay gets near enough, and in the meantime you two keep Mai occupied."

“We can keep her occupied all day if you like!”

“And all night too-”

“Smith, Photon Cluster once Kay reaches 8th Avenue by the next intersection. She can’t get across it without exposing herself. ”

“Right! I’ll give her a big one! Load Cartridge!”

This is strange… several times I’ve had to evade Wesson’s shots, and yet even those I didn’t or couldn’t evade didn’t hit me. Are they toying with me somehow?

Nah. I’m just too good.

I ran up to a wide intersection, with an island in the middle. I’ll have to cross through this plaza to proceed, but if I did I’ll be exposed for longer than I liked. Should I cross now?

An explosion by my feet forced my only option.

“Damn you Wesson…”

I ran across the street, more Stinger Snipes arced and weaved through the streets, blasting the ground behind me. Wesson could’ve nailed me with that shot, so why…

[Massive energy spike detected.]

A massive blue ball streaked across the sky towards us. And only one spell from the twin’s arsenal fit that description.

“Oh FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-!!“

The entire plaza erupted in a cacophony of explosions as the blue death rain fell down.

“ROUND SHIELD!!!”

More blue rain peltered the round shield, and even more blasting the concrete around me, choking the air with thick, grey smoke. It only lasted a few seconds, but it felt like eternity.

Flushing me out with Stinger Snipe then pinning me down with Photon Cluster… these two are giving me massive headaches already. They won’t catch me next t-

The smoke started to thin, his silhouette fading into view. And finally, a strong gust of wind cleared the place of smoke, and there Glock stood, Sophia in hand.

I had expected Glock to wear his standard Issue Barrier jacket, but instead he wore a tight-fitting sleeveless blue muscle shirt, and matching blue jeans. He looked more like a factory worker than a Clerk.

“What is up with that outfit?!”

“The rule state a direct hit to the barrier jacket equals defeat. The less barrier jacket to hit, the better the chances of winning.”

“Glock you cheat…”

“Balance Kay. I gave our team a handicap, so I must give myself an advantage.”

Technicalities. Maybe having a full body suit and scarf wasn’t the best choice for Buster Form. I must say, his BJ doesn’t look too bad, shows off his rugged physique pretty well…

It is believed, though, that the FIREFOX has another form which must be unlocked by its user (the only people with the extensive knowledge of the super-fighter, so far, are the Yuktobanian engineers and El Cid 1), but so far the speculation is not based on any conclusive hypothesis. If this is proven to be true, then Firefox will be the second Mobius Device after Stephen McCloud to have full-drive form.

I couldn’t take my eyes off the blue-haired girl that was flying towards us. She seemed like a regular girl from afar, but, once you see her clearly, her body was anything but human. Why would they bother making a robot look human, I wonder?

She arrived quickly to our location, and without uttering a single word she levitated beside us, staring at us without a blink.

I was scared… That eerie look on her eyes… it sent shivers down my spine… And that stench of blood… it made me sick to my stomach.

Without noticing, I quickly proceeded to hug myself… but suddenly I sensed a hand on my shoulder. “Oswald…” I said softly, as I looked at him. He gave me a smile and a small nod; as if assuring me that nothing is wrong… Did he notice I was disturbed…?

He then moved in between me and the android, and opened a holodisplay.

“Scaglietti, I hope you remember our agreement.”

“Yes, as a matter of fact I do. While originally I had intended to give my new little toy some real action, I won’t mind… if you can entertain me instead.”

He smirked. That made me so angry. Why would Oswald listen to someone as creepy and sick as him? “You sic—”

… I tried to say, but I noticed Oswald signaling me with his right hand not to continue. Oswald… aren’t you mad…? He’s using us and the one you love for his sick games… What does he really want?

“You don’t have to worry about that,” Oswald answered, calm as always. “You just make sure you keep your end of the bargain, or I can assure you we will blow this little toy of yours to pieces.”

“Hehehehe. As expected from a Dark Knight. I will keep that in mind.”

“Good.”

“Oh, and regarding him, the ‘seal’ has been unlocked.” The bastard continued. Won’t he leave us alone? “He should awaken in a few minutes.”

“I see. Well then, this concludes the first part of our deal. We don’t have anything else to say to you, so…” Oswald said, as he closed the holodisplay. Thank goodness.

“What an annoyin—” I was shouting, but again Oswald stopped me, this time closing my mouth with his left hand.

“Baka,” he whispered, “he can still see us, and probably even hear us.” He then released me.

“H-How?” I softly answered.

“The android… and probably even spy drones.”

“Who is this guy anyway?” I knew he is somehow involved with Oswald and Krynu, and the Relics they have inside. Still, I wanted to know more.

“We’ll tell you later…”

While I still wanted to hear more, I was quite happy about those words. Those sad and worried eyes he had a bit earlier… what was he thinking? What is he thinking now? At least now I know there will be… a ‘later’…

“Anri.” He was looking at me… Was he calling me before? “Anri!”

“W-What is it?” I asked.

“You too, do not join this fight.”

“What are you saying? I can fight!”

“This will be a battle between Relic users—”

“Are you saying I cannot handle a Relic user?” I interrupted him. I cannot believe he doubts my skills. Sure, I do not have this ‘Relic’ inside me, but I can hold my own, just like Krynu!

“I don’t doubt your abilities…” He paused for a moment, and then continued. “Look, just leave it to Krynu and me this time. Please.”

“…” I wanted to fight… no… I wanted to help him. But the look on his eyes… I couldn’t refuse… “… OK.”

“If the situation gets bad, promise me you will get away immediately.”

I was surprised by those words… Could it be…? “Are you implying that there is someone down there capable of defeating you?”

“That’s what I hope…”

What did he mean by that? He ‘hopes’ one of them can kill him…? Why…?

“Are you ready, Krynu?”

“Of course.”

I’m sorry Oswald, but I cannot promise you that.

Inside the cavern, the girls noticed that Rhea already came back with a couple buckets of water.

Rhea: *sigh* I was told not to fly so I wouldn’t draw any unnecessary attention… but I didn’t think this was going to be so tiring…

Gwendolyn: Rhea! Are you OK?
Rhea: Huh? What do you mean?
Ashelyn: Natalia said there were some people outside…
Rhea: I didn’t see anyone…

Oswald: Gwendolyn!
Gwendolyn: O-Oswald…? Is that you…?

Her eyes opened wider, as if in disbelief. She thought she’d never see him again. But even though she was happy, she could not help but think that something is wrong.

She then noticed Oswald’s companions: a tall, green-haired guy holding a giant mace with his right hand, a cute brunette in a yellow dress, and a weird looking girl with blue hair.

Emeralda: (This guy… Who is he?)
Natalia: (I don’t know. I haven’t met him before.)
Emeralda: (Hmm. They don’t seem to be coming just for a chat. Be careful.)
Natalia: (Right…)

Oswald: Hey, hey. Have you forgotten about me already?
Gwendolyn: But you look… somewhat different…
Oswald: It has been almost a year since we last saw each other, hasn’t it?
Gwendolyn: (That’s not it…)

He stopped for a moment, as he gazed at Gwendolyn’s eyes, but not because he didn’t know what to say. He knew there was no point in starting a conversation, since that was not his reason for coming here. So, he went straight to the point.

Oswald: I heard that Scaglietti also implanted a Relic in you…
Gwendolyn: Yes…
Oswald: Well then. I’ve come here… to test you.

The sudden change of his voice, as well as the now serious look in his face… it’s as if he was preparing for an attack… Gwendolyn did not know what to think.

Gwendolyn: W-What are you—?
Iris: Kisama… Are you here to pick a fight?
Oswald: … Yes. But first…

The knight in black armor looked at Rhea, who was standing next to the girls. Suddenly, something inside said boy started to glow. The yellow glow engulfed the boy as he moaned and tried to grab his own head to suppress the pain.

Ashelyn: Rhea!
Gwendolyn: Rhea! What is going on?
Iris: You bastard… what are you doing to him?!
Oswald: I’m not doing anything. This is Scaglietti’s work.
Iris: So you’re working for Scaglietti now?!
Oswald: I am not. However, this is something I did ask him to do… The awakening of Gaia.

The glow stopped and the boy stood up as if nothing had happened. This time, however, the look on his face was completely different. From what was an innocent boy’s face, now it is serious and dark.

Gwendolyn: R-Rhea, are you OK?
Gaia: Don’t call me that. My name is Gaia.

The boy had a slight smile on his face.

Iris and Ashelyn: *!*
Gwendolyn: *!* What are you saying…?
Oswald: I see… (He still has his memories… Good. That will make things easier.)
Iris: You!!

Grabbing her glaive, Iris leaped towards Oswald, but before she was able to strike him, the green-haired knight parried the attack with the shaft of his giant mace.

Krynu: Sorry, girl. Oswald is taken already.
Iris: Heh… That just means I’ll have to kill you first!

The man swung his mace at the attacker, but with the intention of making her jump away from the group so they could have more space to fight. The girl did just that, jumping to her right, and Krynu followed soon after.

Krynu: (Oswald also said good things about this girl… Let’s see what she’s got.) If you hold back… you’re going to die.
Iris: The same for you!!

Oswald: You’re my opponent, Gwendo—
Gaia: No, I will take care of them.
Oswald: (What? Did Scaglietti order him to attack the girls?)

Gaia kneeled down and touched the ground. The immediate area round the boy shook and started to crumble.

Gwendolyn: *!* Jump everyone!
Gaia: Earth Spikes!

A dozen spikes emerged from the floor at a very high speed. The girls were able to evade it thanks to Gwendolyn’s call. Natalia and Ashelyn moved to their right, near where Iris was, while Gwendolyn stayed in the air.

Gwendolyn: (Those spikes… They were aimed directly at our chest! He really intended to kill us…) Rhea! What’s wrong with you?
Gaia: I told you… Don’t call me that!

The boy jumped towards Gwendolyn with a sword made out of hard stone.

Gwendolyn: When did he—?

Meanwhile, as Gwendolyn was able to set a barrier to block Gaia’s attack, Dr. Scaglietti was watching the events through the android’s eyes.

Scaglietti: Gaia… An Earth Elemental Relic… Normally, one would think that an Earth Mage is not very powerful; and that is true. However, my Gaia…

The doctor could not help but smirk as he looked at the holodisplay. One of his most precious toys, one that he had created himself, a kid specifically created to contain one of the most powerful Lost Logia has now fully awakened.

Scaglietti: He not only controls the two basic properties of Earth Magic. The first, Bind, the power to hold things together, to solidify… he’s able to enhance anything, from weapons to armor, and make them harder and stronger. And the second, Break, the power that can reverse that binding effect, the power to destroy, breaking things permanently apart. But also…

Gwendolyn was struggling to evade all of Gaia’s attacks. He used his stone sword and also his spells Earth Spikes and Stone Dagger.

Gwendolyn: Rhea… listen to me…!
Gaia: How many times do I have to tell you, do not call me that!
Natalia: That’s enough!
Emeralda: (Idiot… don’t be so hasty!)

Natalia had gathered enough energy to fire an energy blast. With the size of a Divine Buster, the beam was aimed directly at Gaia.

The boy, however, did not even try to evade it. And instead, he smiled.

Gaia: Wailing Bonds.

An invisible wave, similar to a Barrel Shot, came out of Gaia’s body in the general direction of the attack. The energy beam was completely disintegrated as the outer layer of the wave touched it, leaving not a single sign of the spell in the air.

The wave reached Natalia, but, aside from sensing a bit of pressure, she was not harmed in any way.

Gwendolyn and Anri: *!*
Oswald: (So he has full control over that now, huh?)
Emeralda: *!* (No way…)
Natalia: …What happened?

But also… the Relic’s true power…

The ability to break the links between energy particles that form spells, effectively nullifying any offensive or defensive spells.

In a way, it works similarly to the Anti Magic-link Field; however, not only is it much stronger and effective, it is not a Field magic, and thus it does not have a range limit.

And one last thing… its side effect…

The energy particles become unstable and unresponsive, as if disoriented, preventing the use of spells that require energy gathering.

Brilliant…

Not only does he have the ultimate physical defense, but also the ultimate magical defense…

He is my best creation… My… masterpiece…

Next time, Oswald's Relic revealed, as well as (maybe) some Dark Energy explanations (still dont know if such explanation will fit... I'll probably have to use Scaglietti to explain some stuff again. This guy is quite useful, I tell ya! )

This is... MIND BLOWING!!! The inclusion of Syaoran is kinda apt, considering the TRC one had 2 of them.

And for the record things are getting more and more h4xx. Looks like Kha's really gonna have trouble taking on the LRW during the Retaliation arc (yeah I changed the first encounter again due to new spoilers and more canon revelations), though would Oswald be there to screw things further? If so, I guess bringing one regiment of Regional Guard to crush a heavily defended cloning facility isn't too heavy-handed. And I'd like to see the LRW fare against a weapon of their own type, the science-based barrier Lambda Driver. Too bad I don't have Sagara--

I hid on a convenient abandoned convenience store, since using Ether Scan requires me to stand still and cast a magic array. But this’ll sniff out any magical signatures in the area instantly.

The display on Khaydarin shows 10 magic signatures asides from my own within a hundred meter radius. Four are large ones, belonging to Smith, Wesson, and Glock just north of my position, and forming as a single massive signature Mai and Xealot to my west. The six others are incredibly small yet distinct signatures. By its description, it’s apparent to that they’re Snipe Eyes planted there by Wesson.

And one of them was directly across the street, looking at us.

[High-speed object approaching.]

Rei warned just in time for me to dodge a Stinger Snipe as it smashed the counter behind me.

[Another approaching.]

“Flash Step!”

More Stinger Snipes darted past like comets, smashing the ground behind me as I blasted my way out. For someone with SS class accuracy sure can’t shoot well. You need to do better than that Wesson!

“SNIPE BETTER WESSON!!!!”

Oh Kay. It’ll take her a while to realize that none of Wesson’s shots are intended to hit. But from Wesson’s Snipe Eye footage, I can see that even they were, Kay would have no difficulty evading the shots with her Flash Step. Her earlier Ether Scan means she already knows our exact location. Just as planned.

“Maybe she’s right. Try aiming a little closer Wes.”

“Roger that! Relocating!”

As of current jump, Wesson was nested on the roof of a high-rise condominium in the middle of Forrest Square, an intersection with line of sight to every major road within a mile. Smith was several floors below, keeping watch to the south, Kay’s expected approach. And I posted myself at the foot of the building, just outside the entrance.

A holodisplay opens with Smith on the line.

“You sure about this plan Glock? Once Mai gets here you’re on your own.”

That was the weakness in our arrangement. Mai has the advantage of teleportation on her side. Along with Kay’s detection spells means she’s already on to us. Smith and Wesson would have to relocate often to evade Mai, as their weaknesses lay in their inability to cover themselves in melee combat. And it was worrisome that Mai was nowhere to be seen on Wesson’s surveillance.

“Keep moving, and keep me covered as long as possible until Mai catches up with you two. Our objective here is to tire Kay out and assess the capabilities of her Barrier Jacket configuration. I’ll engage once Kay gets near enough, and in the meantime you two keep Mai occupied."

“We can keep her occupied all day if you like!”

“And all night too-”

“Smith, Photon Cluster once Kay reaches 8th Avenue by the next intersection. She can’t get across it without exposing herself. ”

“Right! I’ll give her a big one! Load Cartridge!”

This is strange… several times I’ve had to evade Wesson’s shots, and yet even those I didn’t or couldn’t evade didn’t hit me. Are they toying with me somehow?

Nah. I’m just too good.

I ran up to a wide intersection, with an island in the middle. I’ll have to cross through this plaza to proceed, but if I did I’ll be exposed for longer than I liked. Should I cross now?

An explosion by my feet forced my only option.

“Damn you Wesson…”

I ran across the street, more Stinger Snipes arced and weaved through the streets, blasting the ground behind me. Wesson could’ve nailed me with that shot, so why…

[Massive energy spike detected.]

A massive blue ball streaked across the sky towards us. And only one spell from the twin’s arsenal fit that description.

“Oh FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-!!“

The entire plaza erupted in a cacophony of explosions as the blue death rain fell down.

“ROUND SHIELD!!!”

More blue rain peltered the round shield, and even more blasting the concrete around me, choking the air with thick, grey smoke. It only lasted a few seconds, but it felt like eternity.

The smoke started to thin, his silhouette fading into view. And finally, a strong gust of wind cleared the place of smoke, and there Glock stood, Sophia in hand.

I had expected Glock to wear his standard Issue Barrier jacket, but instead he wore a tight-fitting sleeveless blue muscle shirt, and matching blue jeans. He looked more like a factory worker than a Clerk.

“What is up with that outfit?!”

“The rule state a direct hit to the barrier jacket equals defeat. The less barrier jacket to hit, the better the chances of winning.”

“Glock you cheat…”

“Balance Kay. I gave our team a handicap, so I must give myself an advantage.”

Technicalities. Maybe having a full body suit and scarf wasn’t the best choice for Buster Form. I must say, his BJ doesn’t look too bad, shows off his rugged physique pretty well…

FIREFOX

One of Aurelia’s many Mobius Devices and among a few aircraft-shaped Lost Logia, Firefox is just one of the world’s many super-planes and are classified as Tier 1, along with ADF-01 Falken, X-02 Wyvern and the original XFA-27A. It is an excellent fighter plane than can handle both aerial and ground threats with excellent hit rate.

When it was first built, Yuktobanian engineers foresaw a necessary requirement to match (or outperform) three of the world’s most advanced super-fighters: ADF-01 Falken built by Belka’s Grunder Industries, the XFA-72 and X-02 Wyvern designed by Erusean Aerospace Agency (EASA). Results from years of research and development led to the Firefox, an interceptor aircraft with stealth capabilities, to the point that it would be invisible to radar. The Firefox is originally designated as MiG-31 but in order to avoid confusion with the already existing MiG-31 Foxhound two-seat interceptor, it is given different designation code (which is later omitted as officials start referring to the airplane simply as “Firefox”).

Firefox is powered by two incredibly powerful scramjet engines that permit flight at hypersonic speeds, but their exhaust gives the plane a prominent infrared signature. To counteract this drawback, which would transform the plane into a huge magnet for heat-seeking devices, Firefox is equipped with backward-firing explosive charges that are fired at a pursuing plane or missile.

One of the most well-known features of the Firefox is its Thought-Controlled Weapons System (TCWS), which uses signals from the pilot’s brain to target enemies and fire weapons. It is believed that TCWS is a development of the COFFIN system, already used on the Falken but claimed by Yuktobanian software engineers many times better than the COFFIN.

As it is built to accommodate Aurelian magic modulator, Firefox can carry up to 84 Sidewinder standard heat-seeking missiles and 18 Meteor MDBA long-range air-to-air-missiles for air-to-air engagements. For air-to-surface sorties, the plane can carry 14 KH-31P anti-radiation missiles. Standard close-range engagement weapon consists of GSH-6-30 six-barrel rotary cannon installed inside gun fairing between the engine air intakes. Firefox’s most prominent weapon, however, is the RASM (Rolling Airframe Swarm Missile) system -- this hybrid air-to-air missile combines the best of both worlds (R-73 Archer’s super-manoeuvrability and Meteor’s multiple targeting lock-ons) and is exclusively designed for Firefox. All weapons are carried inside the plane’s weapon bay.

Other capabilities of the Firefox include a 3,000-mile un-refuelled range and flight ceiling over 120,000 feet.

Ten prototypes are built before the plane is to be deployed into active service for Yuktobanian Air Force. Eight of the planes are sent to Aurelian Archipelago during the Great Oceanic War to undergo battlefield tests, and under agreement between Yuktobania and Andalusia they are operated by the kingdom’s elite air unit Livingstone Squadron. Seven planes are used by the squadron throughout the war, but FIREFOX-101 (flown and operated by El Cid 1) stands out from the rest as it is extensively modified to accommodate the pilot’s Briton magic ability, particularly Noble Illusions. It is also the most recognized plane of all, with jet black/bright red paint job and the prominent “Jolly Roger” emblem on the two vertical stabilizers. Livingstone Squadron’s Firefoxes are also equipped with advance digital optical stealth system (which is later adopted by FENRIR, the next super-fighter). As a Lost Logia, Firefox is regarded by TSAB officers as a high-value, “must-study” artefact -- if they can ever get a hand on it. So far, access to its blueprints or working models is restricted to Yuktobanian officials, and even TSAB can’t get their hand on the only other working Firefox (currently in the possession of the Freelance Air Force) that lacks either the DOS system or the capability of flying hypersonic.

DEFENSIVE ABILITIES

• Flight Suit: Aurelia’s variation of Barrier Jacket.
• Bastion: El Cid 1’s first magic, it is Tizona’s auto-guard spell. Although weak it can absorb attacks from all directions.
• Octagon Shield: a powerful one-direction protection spell that can withstand strong magical or physical attacks.
• Bind Break: El Cid 1 attempts to deactivate a binding or imprisoning spell; in Aurelia’s case, imprisoning spell refers to strong electromagnetic jamming frequency that destroys the aircraft by frying its equipment from inside out.
• Countermeasures: this is Tizona’s mode of defence after fused with FIREFOX-101 and deploys Aurelian magic decoys and sometimes jamming frequency to disrupt enemy’s detection system.
• Early Warning: analogous to “Perception” and the likes.
• Mirage: this unique ability allows El Cid 1 to create many alter-images of his plane, usually used in conjunction with Countermeasures.
• Hypervelocity: used to boost Firefox’s speed.

OFFENSIVE ABILITIES

El Cid 1 possesses only one ability that is forever associated with him: Unlimited Dogfight Works. This uniquely Briton ability is distinctive for being the only Noble Illusion exclusively for fighter pilots. Like any Unlimited Works, Unlimited Dogfight Works enhances its caster’s perception on the battlefield and increases all stats by summoning a surreal world in which target(s) is/are trapped inside the world. Then the caster proceeds to use all elements of dogfight and aerial battles inside the realm freely. El Cid 1 has been known to use Unlimited Dogfight Works many times in the war, and his victims do not usually survive to tell the tale.

Considering that I've created giant bipedal devices know as G.U.N.D.A.M., I guess planes aren't too farfetched. Cool stuff here; Looks like the Regional Guard needs to go shopping for better aircraft.

RE KhaXCarim: I'm actually for this pairing too; if only canon came up with her faster I'd pair them up instead. Maybe I can pull a Athrun Zala and leave things in a state of question marks at the end of StrikerS, then see how I develop it beyond that? Hmm... Ideas...
