People keep posting about episode 12 and I keep thinking we're actually at episode 12 and I missed one. @_@;

The line from episode 10 is "Despite all the people she's lost and all the hardships she's endured, Al is always kind and considerate of others."

This line can refer to so many people, not just Claus and Lavie. Or even Mullin. It can refer back to Guita, Ralf, or well the whole House of Hamilton too.

Thanks for the correction. Blech that was careless of me going without checking and reminding myself what he looked like again for a refresh, you're totally right, the mark made it obvious and the freaking hair which I somehow completely cross-connected (for some reason I thought I recalled the guy in the manga having straight up hair like Alauda when ofcourse he doesn't).

Actually that makes a ton more sense too since we don't even know if that guy's still around what with the mysteries surrounding the Guild.

Perhaps the guild member from Hourglass is from one of the older Guilds that returned to Earth. I don't think they're affiliated with each other, and it's possible that the Ades Guild eradicated the Guild members we saw from Hourglass?

Animax's translation (for Southeast Asia) to that is pretty more straightforward:


"Alvis is an orphan. She has a sad past."


and then later on Dio says that she and Millia are similar in terms of their background. with that "orphan" line you won't think about Claus or Lavie involved at all.

Agreed. The different symbols on the two Guild uniforms make me feel this way too, as did the way Alaudia talked, I'm curious for more about what happened. The guy from the Hourglass manga has the same symbol as Dio's but appears to be from Earth rather than a Prester based on his "People of Prester, I welcome you to the homeworld...etc." speech where he also says things like his colleagues in the Guild should have been the ones to lead them back from Prester (we ofcourse know why that didn't happen).

Well, not really surprising given how this is a full-episode flashback, but seeing Fam, Giselle, and Milia as kids was something else... As was everyone else, literally, as many of the major players of the present day were at the Grand Race in one function or another. And it looks like Fam and Milia had a very brief encounter as kids. Hmm.... Also I think we have some even more evidence that Fam herself (via the medal she had) has SOME connection to either the Guild or one of the Exiles.

Why was I not surprised that Sorush was eyeing the girls from the Glacies contingent (who were wearing, I might add, modern miniskirts)? Or the fact that Luscinia couldn't even force himself to smile while he was the previous Augusta's bodyguard (the man must have had a lot of practice since then)?

And Haruhi, talk about disaster dominoes. Ades made enemies, and they wanted to make a grand show of killing off the head of the country where there were countless witnesses. Sheesh. And now we know why Liliana might sympathize with Luscinia's rather heavy-handed methods of uniting the world. Honestly, despite being Guilders, I don't think there was ANY real way for both Luscinia and Alauda to defend Farafnaz, and what was worse they were in the open with no real escape.

It looks like aside from a look at Glacies, we'll also be visiting the Valca homestead. Oooh.

This flashback gave us an understanding what happen 10 years and a tragic story of woman who wanted to bring peace to the world.

We got see a lot of the characters when they were younger including Fam, Gizey, Millia, Liliana, Luscinia, Alauda, the Ades Generals, Roshanak and the Glacies pilots.

The Grand Race was created to celebrate the new peace treaty between Ades and the Exile nations. Even if it's great time for everyone, there is still racism between the natives and the Exiles especially since the natives don't like the Exiles very much. Empress Farahnāz is shown to be a kind leader who doted Millia and Liliana and was a mother figure to Luscinia and Alauda. Farahnāz created the peace treaty because she regretted the lives that were lost during the war and the animosity between the Exiles and Natives. Farahnāz hope to bring peace for everyone on Earth which Luscinia and Alauda vow to her they will help her dream.

But sadly, Farahnāz died protecting Liliana when Exile Extremists who wanted revenge for their war dead attack the winning ceremony and one of them tries to kill Liliana. Farahnāz's death was sadly ironic as she was killed by the Exiles she wanted to help. And now we understand why Luscinia hates the Exiles since they kill the woman who was like a mother to him. So what Luscinia is doing now is related to Farahnāz dream of peace on Earth but he's doing it by forcefully uniting the nations.

Farahnaz was clearly a wonderful woman in my opinion. She saw someone in danger and did the first thing she thought would protect her.

And then all hell broke loose because of it. Luscinia clearly resents the expatriates as a pigeonhole of "If it weren't for you, Farahnaz wouldn't be dead... the war between expatriates and Natives wouldn't have happened so the peace treaty formed with Ades (and Farahnaz) wouldn't have put her in danger..." etc

I'm kind of left with a sense of who is the "baddie"? Is it the misdirected Luscinia who suffered quite a bit from the loss of someone he loved? Or is it some other group we don't know? In the original series we had one in Maestro Delphine.

Yeah as MrTerrorist, TheKage and encia described, I think it was really well done with Farahnaz and her caring connections to our characters and really nicely created the stronger situation where everybody has a reason in the story as TheKage said with his "Who's the baddie?" thoughts.

well, i'm pretty sure that's what they wanted to show but i didn't buy it. i thought the establishment of this dark scenario was ill contrived maybe even forced. maybe it was all that sunshine and color where too much of both always indicates or symbolizes life, joy and optimism. it might've helped if they used a darker tone in picture during that part of the episode or any other gimmick to help differentiate the first part of the episode from the last, to show that things have changed, greatly. the mood felt the same from start to finish that's why i found it off (hence reactions that set off an exaggerated use of multiple hyphens). i also had trouble believing at the sheer absence of security in this event with a very important political figure(s) present. anyway, in that episode where Lusciania decided to massacre people? that i had no trouble believing/accepting.
