Kanon music discussion (OP/ED & OST, etc.)
Feel free to discuss any music related subjects for Kanon here (OP/ED & OST, etc.). As the usual rule, NO POSTING LINKS TO MP3s OR ASKING FOR THEM. You may buy them at the usual place such as cdjapan and what not, but DO NOT ask for or post links to any music downloads. This includes, but isn't limited to:
Please can someone give me some info on the Opening and Ending of Kanon? I really want to buy the OST as well...but I can't find it anywhere ;_; Last edited by xris; 2006-10-06 at 14:36. |

Just so you know, the whole musical score from the original Toei version by Hiroyuki Kouzu is just a different version of the original games soundtrack which is being used in the 2006 anime. The whole part of the Toei's music part that was new was the OP & ED.

First you had the OST for the game, then Toei's version came along which was just the same but by a different composer, and now Kyoani's version is using the score from the game.

As I mentioned before, I may be the only one, but I really don't think the choice to use the games OST was good. I mean I've never played the game or watched the earlier series so there's no nostalgia for me. But as a decision for the overall quality of the show, the music from the game is too loopy, somewhat generic also. Having original music would have benefitted this anime..

Well, it's the music of a visual novel, and it's being clear about that, too, most people who have played visual novels can tell. While I agree that writing a whole different soundtrack might have complimented the series better, the target audience is first and foremost (as it happens with most eroge conversions, unfortunately) those who have already played the game, and they may feel nostalgic about the music. As long as they don't destroy the game in the conversion, like they have done with various other conversions, I'll be happy even with the original music, it's good anyway, although it makes its origin too apparent

The originally musical score's for Key's games are some of the best if you ask me. Just look at Air, they used the same game soundtrack for the anime last year, & the right feelings from the game where all there. Same goes for Kanon if you ask me - it needed the game's music for it to be 100% perfect.

Some interesting fact you might want to take note :-
The theme song (Last Regrets) and most of the musics in Kanon are written and composed by Jyun Maeda, the very same person who had written up Kanon, all at the age of 23. (Assuming that he thought up the idea somewhere in 1998) |

I thought I would share with you some remixes I have done. I was pretty excited about the remake so it took me a few months to complete these pieces. There are up for grabs, I don't have an hosting site but I think Myspace could probably work. Tell me what you guys think.
