I think it will be good, the tone is very different from the other works, actually si very likely that people who like the other works will hate this one because of the difference in tone, especially the fate zero fans.

Maybe those who ONLY liked Fate/Zero (or maybe Fate/Zero and Kara no Kyoukai), but if they're a fan of the characters in general they should like this.

Type-Moon works are not made for casual viewers... anime excluded of course, Tsukihime was a nice intro at its time (despite ignoring 99% of the story), F/SN was a decent route combo to introduce middle-schoolers into Nasuverse, as UBW did introduce grade-school-kids into it, while F/Z attempted to attract hipsters and office ladies (cutting out or sweetening taboo scenes)... thus Ilya will try to expand the TM fanbase into mahou-shoujo lolicons (I left Rakkyou out intentionally, since it is the only good adaption to date)

Not really? I vastly prefer Zero(novel/anime) to Stay Night(light novel, because anime and movie was shit), but I also greatly enjoy the Prisma Illya manga* due to the comedy and action.

*Whether I will enjoy the anime remains to be seen.

Fate/kaleid liner PRISMA ILLYA is a really good manga with good action, plot, and humor.

It suffers (depending on point of view) from a bit too much loli fanservice. Escpecially early on. But if one can get past that (or just accept Illya is naked from time to time while talking about important stuff), then you will be fine.

Not just early on. Well, in the original series I suppose most of it was early on, but in 2wei the introduction of Kuro has seemed to lead to the authors enjoying putting the two of them in fanservicey positions at the least. Not to mention the beach chapters. Or the necessary prana replenishment.

There's a bit more loliciousness at those points than I think may be strictly necessary. But I've found the quite interesting story and rather compelling characters (and good humor, when it feels like being funny rather than serious) can carry it past that.

I only watched Fate/stay night, the others I haven't had time for and what not. I'm gona watch this one because it looks good/fun.

Might become the catalyst that'll have me watching/reading/etc all the other Fate material...

I haven't read anything from it in a while, but I do remember it being a pretty solid manga. So hopefully it translates well to animated form.

Was surprised finding out this was getting an anime though .

I was thinking StylipS would be doing the ED to DxD NEW because they did so for the first season, but it looks like they're doing the ED to this show instead.

Official website just went through a refresh: http://prisma-illya.jp/
It now lists the stations it's airing on, and also some more character visuals:

I suspect this may be a half length anime.

There's a special screening of episode 1 and 2 going on near the end of June, and it's only a 30 minute event. The length of the event hints at the length of the episodes. Not that this is a bad thing (see: Muromi).

Rin looks weird. Her torso is too short.

Not a good comparison. Muromi works at half-length because it is a plotless piece of insanity. That is not the case with this.

I'm sure it can work for a plotful piece of insanity. It's not how many minutes you have, it's what you do with them. Good story planning can make any format work.

The story has already been written. While we were not entirely sure there would be enough for twelve normal-length episodes, I am sure there is too much for twelve half-length episodes. They'll end up with the old problem of trying to cram too much into too small a space, which is crazy, because for once they don't have to do that. The first season of the manga is a good length for them to work with for a 1-cour series. Very nearly ideal. Slightly short, perhaps, but not so much that they couldn't work with it, and there were extra chapters that could be slotted in as well. But if you cut it in half, you're going to lose way more than just the small bit of extra space that may be there. You will lose things that actually need to be there, and for no good reason at all.

Are you sure about that? I checked the website, and it seems to be saying that the theater opens 30 minutes before the airing begins.

My mistake. I misread that part. The show may be regular length after all.

...Kindly be more careful before saying things like that. Next time I may have to get out the torches and pitchforks.

http://anime.prisma-illya.jp/introduction/

Website confirms the drama cd cast for Illya's friends at school, to the surprise of absolutely no one.

Mimi Katsura: Satomi Satou
Tatsuko Gakumazawa: Emiri Katou
Suzuka Kirihara: Kanae Itou
Nanaki Moriyama: Mariya Ise

The maids have the same casting as in Carnival Phantasm and whatever other spinoffs they're in that are voiced, Haruhi Terada for Sella and Miho Miyagawa for Leysritt. Shirou and Taiga are played by the usual suspects.
