Feel free to discuss any music related subjects for Suisei no Gargantia here (OP/ED & OST, etc.). As the usual rule, NO POSTING LINKS TO MP3s OR ASKING FOR THEM. You may buy them at the usual place such as cdjapan and what not, but DO NOT ask for or post links to any music downloads. This includes, but isn't limited to:
This also includes links to YouTube videos NOT uploaded by the original artist. |

I looked up the credits of Gargantia's composer,Taro Iwashiro:
He's got quite a few musical accomplishments to his name, the most famous being the OST composed for John Woo's Chinese history epic, Red Cliff 1&2(2008,2009). starring Tony Leung(HK), Takeshi Kaneshiro(Japan-Taiwan), Lin Chi Ling(Taiwan), Zhao Wei(China) and the live action Rurouni Kenshin movie by Keishi Otomo(2012) starring Takeru Sato(Japan), Emi Takei(Japan), Teruyuki Kagawa(Japan) The producers definitely decided to bring out the big guns for this anime ;3 Some of his Gargantia compositions sound quite similar to his Red Cliff work. Can I post any of the OSTs here for comparison? |

Of the stuff I've listened of Iwashiro's (which is basically the FMA Star of Milos OST), I can't say I was totally enthralled with his offerings, but it was a solid effort overall. Here, he seems to be doing a fine job scoring Gargantia's soundtrack. The opening battle scene was done really nicely as his work reaches a level of awesome, but now as Ledo settles into day to day life on Gargantia, I feel like his orchestral work touches upon the thrill of discovery quite nicely.
Hope the soundtrack will be up to code once it comes out in June.

I'm actually one of the few persons who loved the OP, it was very fitting into the story and show how charming it was. The ending theme is indeed very brilliant, and I liked the OST even though it's not as much memorable as the other Urobuchi's works.

Finally got a bit of time to sit and listen to the ED single. It's plain, but really simple, and effective in hitting the sentiments it's trying to convey. While there's a sense where I want to see Choucho really stretch herself as a singer, I can't really fault her efforts here. It's the kind of balladic J-pop song that hits really well given my musical preferences.

This epic song by Tina Turner might make a good AMV. For that matter, it might a good one for a montage of most Urobuchi animes.
Here's the lyrics. ("Out of the wreckage/Can't make the same mistake this time...") |

Episode 12, about 16:10 in, during the Chamber vs Striker fight: tell me that doesn't sound like it came from Hans Zimmer's work for Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy. Trying to find which song it is Edit: sounds like "A Dark Knight"

I love Gargantia's music. Maybe the BGM isn't that strong on it's own, but it was placed so good, that every scene sounds perfect and it also provides a nice atmosphere, either in the calm and peaceful moments or the action parts. My favourite scenes were the battle vs Striker in EP12 and the final moment between Ledo and Chamber.
