Really liked the teaser trailer. I've enjoyed The Hobbit movies just as much as the original LOTR films and I'm excited to see how this links to the original trilogy, too.
Dat music. Then I have the Desolation of Smaug EE and Battle of the Five Armies EE to look forward to. Smaug is my 2nd favorite Middle-Earth movie. |

Even in later novels, Tolkien would kind of gloss over the end of battles. He might get to a high point or the turning point and then skip the rest with a sentence or two. Mind you he was a First World War veteran, and those guys got a true taste of horror verses their images og honor and glory given to them in story and by the oldest generations about the likes of the Napoleonic and Crimean Wars

Awesome. Well, we shall get to see the White Council confront Sauron, which should be pretty awesome. Have to admit, I'm pretty keen to see that.
Also, at 1:50, seems like Tauriel gets the chop from Thranduil.

Thing is though ... as far as I remember the White Council never knew that the Necromancer was Sauron - they did not make the connection until after the Necromancer fled and suddenly activity and smoke started pouring out of Barad Dur....
Or am I remembering this incorrectly? Not that I will mind seeing the White Council shown going after Sauron directly, mind you. ^^

He says that, but he also said he wouldn't do the Hobbit as well IIRC. If his studio wants him to do it, he'll most likely end up doing it. That said I think the Silmarillion is a little too big to be a series of movies. It'd be like stringing a bunch of the old Bible epics like Moses and Ben Hur together.
But there are a couple of stories that would make awesome standalone movies - but I'm stuffed if i can remember the character names. The Elf and the Human romance one? I'd like to see the Fall of Gondolin with the dragons and balrogs and so on.
