DOTA has about 20 mil (+/- 2-3 mil) players around the world (minus China). It's been that way for quite a few years with minor fluctuations. China alone has close to 50 mil Dota players based on info on the Chinese e-sport sites. These of course are unofficial numbers as DOTA is a custom map. When Valve release DOTA 2, I am sure you will see some accurate numbers being released. It may not be quite as numerous as DOTA (since there are lots of lots of casual that play a number of custom maps, not exclusively DOTA). It will probably have similar numbers compare to LoL.

The competitive end though, DOTA 2 will likely be ahead of LoL. It's already that way with the two DOTA international hosted by Valve compare to this one.

And what exactly is your motivation to post this in the lol thread? Isn't this flamewar around the internet of militant kids who fear their favorite game is in "danger" of not being the most popular one already enough? Why carry this here? Are you one of those kids? Or just a troll? Do you feed on our tears?

Back to topic: So they've actually dig out the spider queen after all. There was once a spider queen champ named priscilla in development, it even had a model already (you can find it on the lol wiki) , looked nothing like the Elise preview though. Here's hoping she'll be a range champ, ap or ad - we really don't need another top/jungle bruiser-assassin.

Wasn't an attempt to troll or start a flame war. Just putting things in perspective. Dota isn't my favorite game and I don't play it. I do watch competitive tournaments in both Dota and LoL though and competitive comment is based on watching both the tournaments hosted by Valve and Riot. There is no need to be super defensive about it.

The question is "Why would you bother posting about it here and now?" while no one ask about DotA? . Seems like you're trying to stir a flame war to me honestly.

On topic about Elise...
Quote:
Abilities (Human form):
Spider Swarm (Passive): Elise’s Human Form spells will ready a spiderling when cast on an enemy.
Neurotoxin: Elise damages a target based on its current Health.
Volatile Spiderling: Elise releases a venom-gorged spiderling that explodes when it nears a target.
Cocoon: Elise fires a skillshot that stuns the first enemy struck.
Spider Form: Elise transforms into a menacing spider with new abilities. While in Spider Form, Elise deals magic bonus damage on attack and has increased Movement Speed, Armor, and Magic Resistance. Each level of her ultimate allows Elise to summon an additional spiderling.

Abilities (Spider Form):
Spider Swarm (Passive): Elise summons her spiderlings to fight by her side. Spiderlings deal physical damage and take reduced damage from multi-target abilities.
Venomous Bite: Elise lunges forward and bites her target, slowing them and dealing bonus damage based on how low its Health is.
Skittering Frenzy: Elise and her spiderlings gain Attack Speed and heal her on each attack.
Rappel:
On enemy cast: Elise and her spiderlings ascend high into the air and descend upon an enemy target.
On ground cast: Elise and her spiderlings ascend high into the air, becoming untargetable for two seconds. Casting Rappel on a nearby enemy during this time will descend upon your target.
Human Form: Elise transforms into a human form with new abilities. Each level of her ultimate allows Elise to summon an additional spiderling.
Guess I need to save up IP again.

After this season's tourney, I believe it was Zyra

Elise could be a nice support too. Any champion with percentile damage can scale with just penetration, so she should be fine (hell, I've seen support Mundo playing with sorc boots and only using cleaver xD). Two-form champion=insta-buy.

Awesome, another new champ to avoid. Lore surrounding Elise has potential but couldn't gave a damn about the character itself.

Elise's concept is interesting, poking in human form, finishing in melee spider form - it's just not my playstyle so I'll probably pass on her.

I'll rather save my IP for the upcoming ward skins

You used 'MLC8cZAl2o' when the complete id was '-MLC8cZAl2o'.

That's actually a good effort on that Brand skin. But it's Brand - so it won't be on my hitlist.

Deathfire Grasp
Activate damage reduced to 15% ( +5% per 100 AP ) from 20% (+4% per 100 AP)
Cooldown reduction reduced to 0% from 15%
WTF changes, nerfed to the ground.

New TT items looking spiffy, now we'll have a third item with flat ArPen and much better late game LS options. Looking forward to it.

I'm calling water nymph with trail skillz and uber slow.

Anyways, after a few practice games to see which champion I'm best at farming with, I like my Zyra at mid, about 96 cs on the 10' mark, it's much easier to get wraiths over the wall with her than Karthus (optimally I'd use AP Galio but I still got some trouble killing all of the caster creeps together, as well as getting the siege one). Now to get that on ranked games...
Spoiler for size:

I'm all for whatever they're putting in the next patch, as either it was needed or it looks cool. But ward skins not permanent? No thanks, I'll save my 20k RP thank you very much Riot.

As for Spider Girl... wtf, she's marked as a jungler in the PBE? That's certainly... interesting.
