Why do you say that theres no chance for a hina conclusion? Is it starting to become obvious who Hayate is going to pick in the recent chapters?

I said _currently_. Meaning that if Hina indeed does end up with Hayate (I give her a 5% upset chance - more than for any other girl, because she clearly develops, and why bother with that unless the author has planned to do something with her), alot of things need to happen first.

1) Nagi needs to be handled in _some_ way. I can only see this happen via the mysterious Himegami, her former butler who left her.

2) As a variation of 1), Hayate needs to develop a certain degree of emotional independence from Nagi, to be able to be free to develop his existing-but-requiring-growth kind of link to Hina.

I mean, imagine that Hina manages to tell Hamster the truth, and to get some kind of "clearance" to proceed on her own. And the next opportunity she confesses to Hayate.

Right now, it's not going to work. He'll be shocked, and possibly flattered, but his "care for Nagi" priority is way too deeply ingrained SO FAR to allow for much imho. Certain things need to happen first. 1) and 2) at least...

Of course it is, but remember his inner reason for rejecting Ayumu? That he has his hands way too full right now taking care of Nagi to consider getting a girlfriend?

By design, Nagi is the default girl without a doubt. I even remember an interview with the mangaka where he outlined that initially he planned to resolve the "Hayate confessed to me" misunderstanding early, and then wanted to develop the romance from there. That does not mean that it HAS to end this way (I'd say it's evident that the mangaka is very much aware that Hina is hugely popular and a cornerstone for the story), but it means that for a SUCCESSFUL Hina ending alot of loose ends need to be tied. Here, resolving Nagi is key.

We shouldn't be fooling ourselves, the day Hayate seriously commits to a girl, the show is over. Hina confesses, Hayate accepts, Nagi lets go, "happy ending"? Nope, no go. Something else needs to happen first - Nagi realizing her own delusions, and preferably developing a credible alternative. Here, Himegami is the wildcard which _might_ give the mangaka a cop-out if he ever decides to REALLY give Hina an end run.

Keeping fingers crossed that Hina popularity remains high enough to convince the mangaka to alter the story's course for real

you shouldn't see the cliche setting of their encounter as reason enough for a cliche ending. what is key here is that hayate's character is not meant to be in teh mold of a harem lead.

the hayate nagi subplot could be structured in several ways, such as, maturity of nagi, the butler-master relationship(probably going to explain this one away, aside from animu fetish, by making hayate a support figure in nagi's life, with further deveopment of nagi's mother/father or the previous butler), etc etc. the romantic angle is going to push this show into something like, '11 year spoiled rich loli finds eternal love!' erm, no. totally not a good story at all. it can go burn in hell with all the other trashy stuff.

the show wont end with a commitment, and really, has things progressed that far. this doesn't look like an H-game, so i suppose it takes a while for the relationship to develop. there is basically no development on any romantic fronts. i mean hayate is pretty oblivious to most of it. but back to your assertion, the show wont be over until all subplots are resolved and no 'shitstorm' is happening. if hayate should commit while nagi's childish attachment is still as is, then, obviously teh story doesn't end. shit will fly. there has not been sufficient development to facilitate a satisfactory ending.

what you perceive as the 'story's course' is a bloody disaster.

If you are talking about the anime, I'd agree with you. So far.

If you are talking about the manga, especially the latest raw chapters, I completely disagree. Of course there is development on the romantic fronts. So I wonder, do you follow the raw manga or not?

I'm not up to volume 12 yet, I purchased the chinese version of the tankoban, currently on volume 9

Nagi seems to have less and less interaction, especially in terms of romance with hayate. The only actually romantic moment was when Nagi tried to kiss hayate in the curch.

Does Nagi even have a chance to end up as the main protagonist anymore. It seems to be leaning more and more towards a Hinagiku ending.

Vol.12 just says October. amazon.jp says the 18th of October.

So definitely October, specifically the 18th of October depending on if you think amazon's reliable or not :P
