I keep hearing this compared to one of my favourite shows (Iriya no Sora, UFO no Natsu) - and just about everyone seems to think Iriya is better, often accompanied by some company about not hating the characters by the end (sounds like my take on Code Geass and Guilty Crown).

What the hell you insult against my favorite show ? Not all the girls are bimbos (= useless distressed damsels), many of them (Mafuyu, Katja, Lizzie...) are strong enough to beat the sh*t out of loads of male antagonists. And the protagonist is more interesting than you thought ; he have no qualms against enemies, he's very different compared to other standard harem leads who do nothing but threatened as brainless wimpy retarted guys with same appearance and look over and over.

And the manga looks a lot better than the anime due to less pointless yuriness and more action package.

Look Kame, if you want to change my opinion on this pos, please be my guest. I found that whole bit about "small town with secrets" kinda creepy when I am aware of what would be the "core theme" of the series, that the final girl rejected everything that could have improved her have been all the more mindboggling and, to me, served little but to force the incest end. I have not been influenced by anyone in the slightest. I tried to watch it with an open mind, but something about the script, the atmosphere or the characterization, or a combination of all of those, made me feel sick in the stomach. In hindsight, miko arc was kind of okay, Nao arc not so bad, but the last one take the cake into making me mentally puke.

I have watched the thing out of curiosity and I regret it.

PS: this is a hate thread, deal with it.

Yeah it's pretty atrocious, the animation is awful, the story is awful, the characters are awful it's waaaaaay too perverted and it just... Has no purpose, like, at all

Apocalypse Zero aka Kakugo no Susumei = Hokuto no Ken in acid trip, a very bad acid trip.

Considering it came out in 1996, nobody expect it to be good anyway, at least in today's standards.

There are plenty of old 90s anime that are simply timeless and wonderful. Animation quality isn't EVERYTHING. You have to look at the whole package.

But just from seeing AZ's trailer, I could tell this one was bad all around.

Well, I just want to point how old Kakugo no Susume is. Not the year it came from. For example Musashi Gundoh, which it have bad production qualities was shown in 2006, a pretty recent one. It also shown at the same year with Code Geass, Ouran and Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu for examples. If people stop making fun on it, nobody knew what year Musashi Gundoh came out. When they discovered it unintentionally, they may think "What it was shown 2006, wasn't that the year where Code Geass was shown? It qualities much like day and night."
