Was just about to post that. I'd say more than the hair has improved, the overall feel is closer to Buriki. I'd go as far as to say this is better than Nishida's work, since I'm not too fond of the..."cut out" appearance of her designs, so to speak.
EDIT: Actually...if they could just improve the coloring/lighting on the characters' hair and eyes and add a bit more detail to the hair it would be perfect.

Likewise if Hagani Vol 5 tops out @ 150,000 there's no way that vols 1-4 sold 1.85 million combined. Nevertheless Hagani is the best selling light novel series prior to receiving an anime and will definitely go into the #2 spot behind Haruhi even if it's only a minor hit. If it's as big as say Haruhi than who knows... |

Unless this has recently changed, the problem with Oricon numbers (and any sales tracking service) is that they're extrapolations. They record point of sales data from participating outlets (I once heard that Oricon covers 30% of retailers; some major chains don't provide data) and extrapolate the trend for a nationwide estimate. There's no way of knowing how accurate the predictions are, but they give a reasonable indication of how well one title performs against another. With video games, we get sales figures from Enterbrain, Dengeki, and Media Create. Sometimes there's close agreement in numbers between trackers, but at other times, there are considerable differences. Again, we get a decent picture of relative performance if we compare Enterbrain numbers with other Enterbrain numbers, Media Create with Media Create, etc. Shipment numbers are probably more accurate than any sales tracking (and they definitely indicate relative popularity) because they come straight from publishers. However, the caveat is that they don't tell us how many copies have reached the hands of consumers. |
