Speaking of the Big Sister, the Demon King has rather unrealistic expectations of education. Within a year, the Big Sister appears to have gone from being illiterate to being able to read and write well enough for a course in logistics--while working as a maid. I have don't think I can describe this kind of progress as anything except very impressive.

It is very hard being the smartest person in the world and trying to put education into the heads of those who have never had it before. Even those with a strong incentive to learn and who try their hardest (and I'm sure Big Sister counts for both of those) probably seem almost unbearably slow by her standards. There's so much to get done, and the education thing is just a sidenote: it isn't even part of her plan, it's just something she's having to do in order to get permission to carry out her plan at all.

Besides, between Soldier's Son and Noble's Son (or whatever their names are) there are undoubtedly enough frustrations in her class to explain her mild bout of depression.

It's varying by speaker. The Head Maid calls her Queen. The Hero and the Demon King still call her Demon King. The Japanese terms of address vary slightly as well, with the Hero and Demon King using just Maou (魔王) and the Head Maid using Maou-sama (魔王様). I assume the different terms in English is supposed to reflect this.
Oddly enough, it's not 魔王様、 it's まおー様、 which is exactly the same, except totally different. Also it's a major plot point at a point in the books which hasn't appeared in the manga yet. So the TL was changed to reflect this. Not going to go into why since it's spoilery, but that's why she says something different than the other characters.

Well, it was my decision to do it that way in the first place.
It's been changed (Or will be changed) to "Majesty", regardless, which was the edtior's idea and one I prefer.

What is even more impressive is Maou setting herself to end the vicious cycle of war by fixing the problems that kept fueling it within a year.

Anyway, it's interesting Maou has thought things through. When she took up that memory lamp, it showed she had already envisioned how she was going to increase agricultural output. How does she come to know so much about farming practices? Who is she, really? I look forward to the anime revealing more of Maou, rather than simply casting her as a traveling miracle worker with modern knowledge of pollution, economics, agriculture, etc.

Great voice work by Chiwa Saito as Head Maid this episode. Of course, we still have the same excellent voices for the mains as well. Looks like the ones in charge are trying for a more balanced approach between informative exposition and character relationships. Well, at least that's the impression I got for episode 2.

Big Sis Maid and Little Sis Maid are introduced. They chose to gain dignity, education from Demon Queen and training through Head Maid's "Path of the Maid".

If DQ already has her hands full with just her first four students, it's reasonable she will eventually need additional instructors to help lighten the educator's load.

I liked that explanation on Crop Rotation. Not too long, but good enough. Looks like one of agriculture's "secret weapons" will have to wait until next episode to be revealed. And someone who seemingly knows who Hero is will catch up with him as well.

Maybe Big Sister is a genius, a genius learn faster than nomal people with abnomal speed. Example: in Vietnam War, there is a Vietnamese Ace - Marjor Nguyễn Văn Bảy, he stop his education at 3rd grade because war, but during war, he finish his rest 7 grades in 7 days instead 7 years and meet requirement to become trainning pilot and also learn driving during his flight trainning.

And big sister is smart too, if not, she will don't understand Demon King's education.

Let us slightly temper down the expectations and talks of genius by noting that what "Maoh" is teaching is likely to be less complicated compared to what we have in 21st century. Maoh's pupils are making remarkable progress, but given that it is a year instead of mere weeks or month, I am willing to cut some fictional slacks for the series.

She doesn't plan to end everything in a year. She just said her agricultural methods would start showing results (ie, people having more food) in a year.

The series push foward 1 year for resuilt of her agricultural method on that village. And there is nothing happen in that year, so no reason for don't skip that time.

Oh no. She merely intends to show that she can increase agricultural production within the space of a year. This would reduce the southern country's depedence on the countral country's war funds. That is only one of the many steps that is required to fix the various problems that are fueling this war. Also over that time period she is hoping to come up with another explanation for where she and the hero are, and another reasonable justification that will hold off active hostilities long enough to allow her to make more progress in following the many steps she must take.

Demon King has a year before people start questioning where the hell she is. It'll take longer than that to fix her problems.

Maou estimated that her excuse of being seriously wounded while fighting Yuusha would only fool the mazoku under her for about a year. Since the mazoku are currently at war, it would be improbable for the mazoku to sit around for too long before a new leader arises to fill the power vacuum. Then again, this is an anime, so improbable things can always happen.

On the subject of increasing agricultural supply, I can see this totally backfiring on her. What if the rulers took the increased food supply from the peasants and send them to the front lines? During times of war, it is not uncommon for feudal rulers to squeeze their peasant tax base to fund their military adventures. What this means is that Maou's actions could lead to an intensification of the human war effort. A better supplied army could march further and fight longer. Then again, this is an anime, so perhaps the ruler could be totally blissfully unaware their peasants are producing much more food than in the past.

Note the last line of my comment. The year of grace is also time for her to come up with another explanation for additional delay. She's not just leaving it at that and working on her current plan, she's multitasking.

We already know the rulers of the southern kingdom don't like being dependent on the central kingdom's war funds. Reducing that dependency is the objective here. What they do with the increased food supplies in the short term is less important, because they're not going to do something that will reduce their independence, and making them more independent is the true objective.

The peasants in this world are already aware of the need for crop rotation, which they perform by leaving the parts of the field idle for a time. The Demon King's improved plan involves constant use of the fields and is supposed to work in a four year cycle. I expect that it'll take more than four years for the peasants to see themselves that the Demon King's method of field rotation does preserve the soil quality and thus come to rely on that method.

And then the Demon King is only teaching the method to one rather backward village on the frontier. It will take even longer for people in other regions to notice that this village has a better method of crop rotation and to copy the method, which further delays how long the improved results can be used to intensify war efforts. (This paragraph assumes she's not going to go around teaching all the frontier villages her new method of rotation but rather leaving the spreading to the current village)

Yes. But by this time next year, they'll already see that they have more meat.

I loving the discussion the show is generating with just a few layers of the economics laid out.

Next week, a new agent will be introduced and people will have many more things to consider when discussing Demon Queen's plan.
(Not a spoiler because it's clearly shown in the PV).
