I feel that Akiha, regardless of her misgivings about her place in the world and such, is a very special kind of person, the kind that doesn't come along very often. And I think that her mother was a similar kind of person. That is, a natural leader.

Examining the Shishidous:
Kazane is an administrator, she gets things done when they have to be done.
Takane is a warrior, she provides the muscle by which things get done.
Sakura is the genius, "female comfort provider" and the entertainer, she is the creative force who inspires growth of things in every aspect.

Then we have Akiha, she's almost perfectly average, like that girl from Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei. She may not have any special skills: her QT-Arms handling is not bad, she's pretty athletic, but not exceptional.
Yet, she has managed to gather an impressive support group of her own. Honoka, Itsuki, Imo-chan, Ul and Leopard (who all incidentally fall into the three groups above). However, when she speaks, people listen (e.g Kazane followed her lead in 13). She gives those under her a direction.

In essence, that is what a leader does.
I can't remember where this quote comes from, but it is quite appropriate: 'A leader takes people not where they want to go, but where they need to be.'

I believe Kagura/Aleida is similar in temperament, and that she is the one properly in control of the Nervalist forces (at this point, at least, I can't say I know anything about the past). She used to be the leader of the Shishidou clan, but at this point that post is vacant, waiting for Akiha to step up.

Nami is an unknown factor in all of this, she may possess some potential for leadership, as Kagura says she is The Girl Who Leapt Through Space. I will withold judgement on her until later.

Yeah, a wall of text, sorry. Watching three episodes of this in a row will do that to a guy.

I really think Nami must have been a sis con in the past and really wants attention from Akiha or the other sisters. But as they grew up and made other friends or left the house and had other stuff to do, she began to feel distanced and developed into a negative mindset.

I guess you are right on the first part other than the siscon part (Sakura is the siscon, white lily and closet pervert all rolled into one weird green haired fanged 12-year-old).

Nami must have been really lonely, because stars usually get criticised due to their looks and actions (everything also must take note of for paparazzi). That somehow screwed her personality into a sadistic one.

The lack of magazine spoilers and people translating them is exactly what that keeps most of us thrilled by the intriguing plot. Over at Geass and Gundam, those spoiler guys have really destroyed the show lol
