None that I recall, other than its major landmarks would be fairly recognizable even to Japanese viewers, and reference material would have been readily available for the production team. In fact, IMHO it's the show's clearly Western setting and "Batman the Animated Series" influence that made it a hit on Cartoon Network in the first place.

Well of course there was room for a 3rd series. but 2 is all we got. Were you around when they screwed up the final episode on Cartoon network? (loaded 21's tape instead of 24) you should've heard the scream of fanboys around the nation (myself included).
