They worry that whatever they write for the character will come off as stereotypical or two-dimensional or offensive or flat or whatever, so they end up writing nothing at all... they could probably do it if they just put aside their fears and wrote, but, well, it's easier not to and to keep the character in the background. ...honestly, I thought that the author sort of had the same problem with Nana Osaki in Nana. Despite her efforts to capture the whole punk thing, that Nana never quite rang true to me, just coming off as too nice most of the time... and I think the author realized this, since she leaned heavily towards using the other Nana as the main character. (Notice how rarely we hear any of Nana Osaki's thoughts... it virtually only happens when she's the only one present and it becomes absolutely necessary.) |

Since i have watched a STRING of anime where it is sad as fuck. I mean i just got into anime and lets see what have i watched....
Elfen Lied AIR Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien AND NOW Paradise Kiss..... i am starting to hate anime quite quickly cause everything i have watched so far made me feel shitty... What pisses me off even MORE is the fact that Paradise Kiss was just so fucking amazing and the ending had to be so damn sad. Why couldn't she end up with him? While the arrow was getting closer and closer, and closer to the end of the bar i was telling my self "She will get a transfer to Paris. She will get a transfer to Paris." After the end i was just SO pissed off. I mean WTF. I mean it was SO serious and just such a good story. Just how serious it was got me. I was hoping so damn bad George would end up with her, but NO she couldn't just have a long term relationship. They could have gotten together later... why Anyways understand why i am pissed. I just got back into anime and i have only seen sad anime so far and just sorrow, death, and crying, and i was just so pissed off when i saw the end i was like fuck it and i went and i jogged 8 miles without even realizing it... that is how pissed off i was Fuck the ending i am making my own. She won the lottery, moved to Paris, Isabella found a guy to marry, and Yukari and George ended up together... screw the ending mine is so much better. |

Paradise Kiss (parakiss)
paradise kiss was one of my favorite animes of all times. I loved how they used franz ferdinland music, and the story wasn't another sterotypical school girl with magic powers plot. However episode 12 (the final episode) made me so annoyed. Twelve episodes of drama and in the end george and yukari seperate. I suppose its a happy ending for them, but it bugged me.

I watched the Anime before the manga and I must say at many times during the anime I just got a feeling about the story and charcters that was confirmed to me in the manga.
I thought even in the anime that George was a selfish self absorbed prick who was just like his father. Just an extremly unreliable person and the manga version is so much more true since it gives a more genuine picture of him. In the anime it's back and forth all the time between being selfish and caring. The caring part just didn't go for me. He was a great designer but always a bad person. And I already knew from episode 2 that George was going to get her in bed and was hoping that she wouldn't fall for him all the time. I really felt sorry for Hiro was was just pushed aside by Yukari. Also the way Hiro is neglected in the anime made me very dissapointed. From what I got already when watching the anime was that he was a caring person who really loved Yukari and was genuinly worried for her all the time. The part about George's mother being like Yukari that was mentioned in the manga was for example something I already realised in the anime. Same thing about the part 10 years later. I had the feeling the person she was going to marry was Hiro but was very dissapointed we were never told. I was very happy in the anime that George and Yukari didn't end up together. He didn't deserve her in a million years. And this was before I watched the manga. How some can like George is beyond me. He was so cold and selfish. A great manga and an average anime would be my final verdict. |

^ Although George was very selfish I think in the end he did care about Yukari....thats why he want her to make her own decisions.
Spoiler for ending:
The manga's drawing style was excellent but I was a bit disappointed with the anime's style. It was lack of detail and Miwako's bf (I can't remember his name XO) looks weird in the anime. |

Great show, unique visuals. I suppose an anime about fashion design had never been done before. I like how the romance angles weren't over-sentimentalized. Basically everyone got on with their lives. Yukari had such a huge transformation, nice to see she didn't end up a total bitch.
Spoiler for series:

I just found out this is the sequel to the unlicensed Gokinjo http://www.animesuki.com/series.php/772.html Monogatari...
It's kind of odd they'd do one but not the other. |

well in my country Gokinjo is licensed, I recently bought the first two volumes and found hilarious that Ai Yazawa drew herself as that weird principal of Yazagaku
Paradise Kiss is a great series, although the ending is better to see it in the manga. Don't know why the anime made it so ambiguous. I'm satisfied with how it ended, everyone more or less got what they wanted |
