Since marvelB mentions it a lot in the One Piece sub-forum, I decided to read this series. The series is alright, but surprisingly very bloody and violent. Something that bothers me a lot in this series (besides the low-grade artwork from time to time) is how people are constantly getting killed just to show how powerful villians are (e.g. Hisoka, the Bomber, Chimera Ants). Other than that, one thing I'd like to comment is that Nen lately seems like a cross between Haki from One Piece (even though Nen came before Haki) and Stands from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure.

Yeah, the violence can get graphic at certain points (personally, I still love that scene from early in the series where Killua yanks out that one dude's heart ). As for the fluctuating quality in art..... well, blame Togashi's stubborn refusal of assistants in that regard (and his "sickness" too I guess, but I wouldn't hold my breath there). The worst the artwork gets is easily around the end of Greed Island/early ant arc (where everything basically looks like it's been scribbled by a 5-year old), but thankfully the art is improved in the volume releases, and has been consistently quite good in the recent chapters. And actually, the similarities to Jojo are one of the main reasons I love this series (and while Haki does share some similarities with Nen, I'd personally consider it to be more similar to Hamon from the early Jojo sagas). I also like how its storytelling is pretty unconventional, compared to most shounen manga (which is also why I didn't mind the random slaughtering of some named characters, since that's another similarity I find that HxH shares with Jojo). But enough of my off-topic rambling for now..... So anyways, aside from Leorio's long-awaited return, I eagerly await the reappearance of the Ryodan, as well. And considering that wolfie's group is going to their home turf, we may see them again sooner than expected, granted Togashi doesn't go on another break during the next few chapters...... |

Leorio was significantly less-talented than Killua, Gon or even Kurapika when it came to Nen... plus I'm fairly sure he's not going to be anywhere remotely close to the specialist doctors that will be attending Gon as he's still studying.
Frankly, Leorio to me, is probably going to remain as the Kuwabara of HxH. He will have his significance in the overall tale, but he's not going to be accelerated into a position where he's somehow special. That's one thing about HxH that I like, really. Because it's a story that can drastically not rely on the need for real combat ( York Shin arc was basically one huge arc of 'preparations' and nothing else ), it can easily interlink less-powerful people in valuable roles. Besides, knowing Togashi, he'd probably just introduce a new character altogether if he wants to do something about it. He's as fond as creating new characters just as he is killing them in brutal, unforgiving ways.

I've pretty much already acknowledged that (I even specifically said a while back that I like Leorio because he's "normal"). But again, I don't see why he wouldn't want to help a friend who's stuck in such a serious predicament..... Uh.... and personally, I'd say Knuckle is more of the series' Kuwabara (at least personality-wise), but that's just me. |

If there really is some sort of divide in the Hunter Association, that would make sense. As humongous as the Hunter Assoc is, I wondered why Netero only used 2 other Hunters and their apprentices in addition to Gon and Killua instead of bringing a whole shitload of powerful Hunters. I mean, the operation took, what, like 2 months from start to end? That's plenty of time for him to find any Hunter on the globe(unless they are very evasive, like Ging).
Also, looking over GI again, I wonder why the heck Killua's younger brother joined the Spiders. I mean, how did Calluto(or whatever his name is) get strong enough to join the Spiders, yet is not in line to be the next head-of-family, despite being much stronger than Killua(before GI at least)? |

An emotional chapter, indeed. So in the end it looks like the both of them will pass on..... well, at least they'll meet a peaceful end (let's put aside the fact that Meruem was a genocidal beast up until he met Komugi, yeah?).
And that color spread just makes me miss Leorio even more (I could care less about Kurapica, though)..... |

Spoiler for 317:
I can't say that the idea of chimera-like ants was the most enjoyable concept to come up with, but Togashi still managed to give even the unimportant ally and enemy chars some depth, rather than depicting them as useless fodder with no ideals of their own. For that reason, I really liked this arc compared to what others have said, and hope that this level of characterization in the antagonists continues throughout the story. Spoiler:
