The long title thing became a topic of discussion at one point in the narou thread. It's basically a result of the masses not wanting to bother reading through entire synopsis' when searching through web novels, so authors had to deal with that by making the title a short description of the story which then caught on.

Even if the titles look long for us writen on Romaji they aren't that long writen on Kanji, we can't forget that either, those titles aren't supposed to be read the way we read them.
