They designed a shit ton of different logos for Psycho-Pass before deciding on a final one. Here's a preview of some of those logos, but for those who recall the very first PV, we already saw many of them flashed at the end there. The old teaser is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3G4dJrse5nc Edit: More Psycho-Pass animation character art from Animate's free mag: http://www.animate.co.jp/special/cha.../charabyebook/ Last edited by duckroll; 2012-09-11 at 08:43. |

Those are scans from Newtype talking about the Dominator gun and the various character profiles. Like I previously mentioned, the gun detects the criminality of a subject, and arms itself accordingly. In this article it is explained that the different offensive modes the system can change to are: Paralyser, Eliminator (lethal ammo), and Disintegrator.

There are also more details about the characters, which seems pretty interesting. Shinya himself, even though he is an enforcement officer, has a high level of criminality potential as measured by the system they use. It seems his past is also tied to an unsolved bizarre murder case.
The other character profiles are mostly general traits and personalities. Akane is a fresh grad who enters the force as an executive officer because of her high aptitude scores. Nojima's character is the other senior executive officer on the team, and he is described as a brilliant officer who keeps his emotions to himself, and is especially hard on Akane. Ishida's character is a loud mouth who likes making fun of people, and he spends all his spare time playing portable videogames. The old guy is a veteran on the force who's like a father figure, and he's the one who helps induct Akane into their field work. The ponytail girl is a cool sort of character who like reading books, and she's also the specialist who controls the robot drones for the team. The scientist chick is the sexy and glamorous sort of woman, and she's in-charge of the medical well being of the team, as well as analyzing the criminality data of offenders. |

Here are more details from the full interview in Newtype between Koji Yamamoto (FujiTV, noitaminA producer) and Takeshi Wada (Production IG, currently runs Wit Studio and is producing Psycho-Pass and Robotics;Notes): - The idea originally came up because Sony was remaking Spiderman. Yamamoto felt that Production IG also had strong properties which have been dormant for some time - Ghost in the Shell, and Patlabor. But instead of remaking them, he thought it would be good if they made something brand new in that same direction instead. The concept being "a cop series". - The project started coming together about 2 years ago. They decided who would be the producers and the chief director pretty early. It seems the chief director (we know its Motohiro now) was definitely something FujiTV wanted. - What Yamamoto wanted for the show was something like Inception, but done in an anime form which can show off the Japanese animation industry's ability to also create major scifi works like that. Inception is very popular, Ghost in the Shell is very popular, people overseas respect these works, etc. You get the picture. - Yamamoto was also the one who had the idea to get Amano involved in the character designs. The reason for this is because he feels that her artwork has a more adult taste in them, and she's also popular with both male and female demographics, so it would be a more gender neutral style which can appeal to older audiences as well. - The story and science-fiction world setting is something which the chief producer and the script writer (Urobuchi!!) planned out together. Some of the details and ideas evolved along with Amano's designs however. It seems that both the Dominator gun and the wrist bracelet computer they use to calculate Psycho-Pass measurements are things which developed from Amano's preference for gadget designs. |

I remember when people were hyped for Guilty Crown I just didn't feel it. It seemed to be a lot of style over substance right from the beginning. I gave it a chance but it was clear pretty early on they were going for flash not depth.
Of course I became interested in Psycho Pass when Urobuchi was first rumored to be involved (the early gun promo did nothing for me). But now even the premise (sounds like some good sci-fi) and the fact that got someone involved with live action dramas has me hyped. I am really hoping this will meet my expectations and I am trying not to let them grow to high. Of course a 1 cour series is always worrying (I assume this is 1 cour) but Urobuchi did handle a 1 cour series very well in Madoka so he at least is capable of it.

Now I'm even more hyped for this. I hope it's at least a cult hit if not a blockbuster.

Wow ! to your infos duckroll , thanks very much
I'm speechless , from your words it seems way more ambitious than i thought . If it can top ghost in the shell , inception etc , those kind of adult scenario ,then the 16 years rule will get broken xd. Quote:

Gen writing it is enough to make it a hit and thanks DR . The plot sounds interesting and while i admit the characters (save hibari/shinya) sound cliche knowing gen its more then it appears to be. The character designs seem really good and adapt amanos design well much better then reborns ever did.

I appreciate that instead of retconning a franchise they're just making a new property. Too many sequels lately that aren't traditional sequels and fail to pay homage to their original titles like Eureka 7 Ao and Last Exile: Fam.

I didnt saw the new last exile but OMG the new eureka seven is Awful , great 2d animations and some great actions packed sequences but still inferior to E7 for me and especially the scenario wich is a pain to follow and love. I hate the characters doing stuff and talking about thing that no one get in order to make it mysterious. I hope at least a good ending but i'm disappointed. Anyway i agree that doin a new series is really great , i just hope it will be a success and grant the risk taken !

Thanks you duckroll!!
oh well, it's officially the spiritual successor of GITS, then So, from what they said, they also wanted to show off the quality of the Japanese animation, huh? Sounds like this show might really be the "challenge" they were talking about.

Hopefully the Japanese will continue with Yamamoto's line of thinking and not fall into the mainly-remakes trap. Unfortunately the recent glut of moe SOL shows and mixed-reviewed remakes indicates to me that that day may come. So that's why I might follow this series over the Madoka movies. I think Madoka deserved its all its initial praise, but I think there's only so much mileage you can get out of it. (And at the risk of being a hypocrite, I'd much rather see Shaft finish off SZS.) |
