To be honest, I didn't like Chihiro. The character designs and all were fine, but the voice didn't seem to match with the character. Specifically, it seemed a bit too low for a character like that, even though the VA was female. In hindsight it was perfect casting. I never thought there was any gender-bending going on, though.

I mean no offense in saying this, but if your rants have been under tags then I have been ignoring them (and I thank you for bothering to put them in tags). I've been keeping away from these forums because I checked on two episode threads when I first picked up the series and it seemed like it was just a bunch of people complaining about how the series was doing a poor job of adapting (or directly ripping) from the game. As an anime-only viewer, it's a real downer.

I don't mean to draw out the focus on anime vs. game with this post or the one made previously, but I wanted to voice some agreement with the person who originally made a comment on it.

Chihiro's VA is actually male.

Well, that explains it even further! Thanks for the clarification

Something bugs me a lot in the final scene. I have a feeling I know which person Monokuma is talking to, and I don't like it at all.

Then again, I don't want any of them to die so yeah....

It's driving me insane, trying to figure out who he was talking to!
I always try to guess the culprit but always fail...maybe I'm just bad at solving mysteries(even in Detective Conan) or maybe as many have said, there weren't enough clues given. But other than that it is an entertaining anime so far but....I'm a bit traumatized after the whole butter thing though.....

I made a prediction early in the thread that it's probably Celestia or Yamada because they were drinking tea.

I'm betting on Kirigiri. She's too useful and supportive of Naegi to not be evil.

so you are pessimistic with your guess?
then here the trick
guess the culprit. ex : celes. then celes i not the culprit
guess again. ex : oowada. then oowada is not the culprit
now guess for the third time. ex : togami. then togami is the culprit

btw, detective conan is way harder than dangan ronpa. from all of f 73 volume of conan manga released in my country... not even once i can guess the culprit and the tricks

A liberty the students of hopes peak don't have, because guessing wrong means execution

Look like this show can't decide whether it wants to be a game or an anime.

Seriously, using effect from the game is okey but they are overdone it. At least please stop those flying text effect + bullet effect.

Well, if they ever do a Phoenix Wright anime, I now fully expect to see a large, visible "Objection!" flying across the screen with some degree of regularity.

hah, I know who monobear is talking to, and that's very interesting. refer to the previous episode for the clue.

also, there's something I do not quite get, but may have been explained in the game, how exactly did mondo(?) know about genocider sho's modus?

I know there's a copy at the library and he could've read it from there, but why did he choose it of all the ways he could've killed chihiro? did he know the serial killer was in their midst (kinda impossible)? or that did he just choose to adopt the same style as genocider sho?

I think it was mentioned before that the cases were quite famous, and that the crucifixion with scissors thing were not publicly known, so that completely rules out mondo having read the secret file, but still why did he decide to hang chihiro that way?

did togami tamper with the crime scene to such an extent that he made it look like genocider sho was the killer? or was his tampering only limited to switching the rooms?

So I've just started this anime and got to ep 5. I expected some sort of death tournament thing, instead I got phoenix wright o.O.

The characters are just awful, I see no purpose in making your characters that caricatured and one-dimensional. I really hated the game-ish scenes in the court and the "cut scene" style executions. Why are they making an anime if it's just to make things like a game?

The first murder was OK because as a viewer it was possible to figure out who the culprit was from the numbers. But the second murder is just rubbish. There was no way we could know the dude was a cross dresser, or about the bookworm having a split personality and being a serial killer -.-. Not to mention this is just outlandish and stupid, nobody has a serial killer or crossdresser as a classmate. At this point it's like we're watching someone do a walkthrough of a game. If as a viewer I'm not even given enough info to figure out who the culprit is, then what's the point? None, nothing. They just go deus ex machine at the end and pull out stuff out of their rear-ends.

No worries, the next case is really detective like. And subsequent one will have ample clues as well. Mind you the anime staff purposely left out all clues to the true culprit in the second case, in the game it can still be deduced but you have to be super alert to details.

And I assure you there will be character development in the future which won't disappoint. And in my opinion, the finale blows away all phoenix wright games.

I could finally catch up with the series and I have no reason to drop it. I will first judge it after it finished though.

Keep in mind who everyone is. They are specialists in their own areas (I am not sure about the MC yet but he seemed to have a good sense for deductions), so it is a given that they can be a bit strange. Being the best in something can be either pressuring (as we saw with the the biker), or cause strange side-effects.

Many people in this thread (myself included) have stated they knew Fujisaki was a trap to start with so it we were able to know. Genocider Shou was harder but there were clues even in epi 4.

Well you don't have to continue watching it.

I don't mind the game effects for the execution scenes, I think those are done really well but I agree with the bullet effects, not a big fan of that.

Fujisaki being a trap was pretty obvious tbh; the anime made it even more obvious by showing he has a tool kit.
While it is admittingly not forbiddden to lend those out, most people would arrive at the conclusion that the toolkit is his, as long as they don't see a sewing kit on the table.
