It's funny actually, I don't even recall her doing it. Was it shown? I'm pretty sure I haven't missed any episodes, so either my memory really sucks (it does, I know it heh) or I missed an episode (doubt it) or it wasn't shown (possible I guess).

Actually I think it was around the time that Doremi weren't releasing much and there had been quite a lengthy break (between ep6 and 7 IIRC), so that's likely why I've forgotten.

It was the episodes with the "little sister contest" that turned into a duel between Chocho and Sahara ... pretty strong pair of episodes.

Just a news update ... according to the appropriate sources, the last episode should be available "soon" --- which I'm going to take as meaning they're in the latter half of preparation at least.

I've been listening to the OST tracks quite a bit .... I'm bracing for an ending that might be pretty bittersweet just based on some of the music I've not heard in the series yet.

It was part of a ritual Kuguru performed that was intended to formally disassociate herself from her kappa clan and family. Same idea as a real-world samurai or court official who would shave their head and become a Buddhist monk in order to remove themselves from a conflict or situation they could not resolve or wished to avoid. Essentially, once the ritual was complete the persona of Sahara Kuguru would cease to exist as far as the clan is concerned. IMO, it was quite a smart move on Kuguru's part. Chochomaru had been claiming that she wanted to kill her older sister in order to secure her own position as head of the Sahara family enterprises. But once Kuguru has "ceased to exist" in the eyes of the clan, Chochomaru can no longer use that as an excuse and will be forced to be honest with herself and confront the real reasons for her hostility toward her sister. And it appears that the plan worked as intended.

aye, the animation is somewhat minimal and its a bit screwy in some parts (especially the theme park derail) but the heart of the show is in a very good place.

I'm both anticipating and dreading the final episode.

Well the final episode salvaged it somewhat, and brought it back to what this anime was originally about. Enjoy the ending to this short sweet series.

everyone should have shared their memories though, it would have made more of an impact i think, especially with sahara.

Hmmm, I thought the ending was a bit of a soft-landing. I'd have gone for the hug anyway instead of holding back.

Yeah... I would have liked to seen some of Sahara's memories - it would have added to the impact of her choice. I thought the little bugs were feasting on the unhappy feelings or memories all 3 of them were experiencing.

I suppose the odd thing here is that Sahara gets almost exclusive dibs on Shingo time now ... Petoko has to stay foremost in Shingo's mind from afar. Whether thats better or worse for Sahara's contentment with the situation is ambiguous --- she is a very competitive girl after all

Love the music from this show... I play it way too often. And yeah.. I figure we lost almost two episodes of character development or triangle fun to the Imoten park derail.... damn it, what *is* it with their inability to key in on their own strong points in writing?

Thanks to the people who shared the show with us ---- I'll buy it if it gets licensed here: hear that, Unnamed Distributing Company? ... I would *never* have considered buying this series if I hadn't gotten to preview it first. So... nyah.

I think Sahara has fully admitted to herself the reality of the situation. Fact is, the postscript pretty much laid it bare - "I'm sticking to less and less people", and "Shingo-kun, I really want to see you again". A wonderful final line... I think this absence will only make hearts grow fonder, and help Petoko get to the place - physically and emotionally - where she's ready to be with Shingo. Like you, though, I would have liked to have seen a hug and maybe even a kiss instead of the pullback...

Nevertheless - its all nitpicking. This was a spectacularly loveable show, right up to the very end. I'll miss it.

aye.... "loveable" is a good description. The heart of this show was just in a good place.

aye... Shingo's thoughts and Petoko's words are about as explicit as a japanese pair might get in front of others. In cultural terms it's as good as saying they're going steady, are a couple, etc. Sahara is too honorable to sneak behind Petoko. But in real terms ... the girl in front of you has an edge over the girl who's far away and its easy to see some pressure building if Petoko is gone a long time. Don't over-read anything here, as I suspect Sahara will content herself with being lifelong friends with the both of them and some imaginary sequel might have Sahara knocking Shingo's friend on the head and marrying off with him

The ending was nice, Shingo was so sweet and Petoko was so cute.
I think they didnt hug because petoko indicated that she would get stuck to him if they do so, because she is feeling love love toward him.

I just started on this series. Pretty good. I'm up to episode 6, I hope Sahara doesn't stay short hair for the rest of the series. She is so pretty with long hair.

Nice ending, IMO.

It was especially nice to see Sahara torpedo "Operation Daybreak" and then have the "tough love" confrontation with Petoko. I was sad when she agreed to participate in the plan in the first place because manipulating Shingo in that manner seemed to run so counter to the way Sahara had been presented as a character. Despite her rough demeanor she was a noble individual throughout the series, and although it was bitter that her feelings were not returned in kind, it was very satisfying to see that in the end she remained true to herself. Shingo and Petoko are lucky to have found each other, but they are even more fortunate to have a true friend like Sahara.

And I am going to ask for a bit of help here in interpreting the bad memory Petoko has where she is surrounded by doctors. I have either forgotten something crucial from an earlier episode or I am simply not properly understanding what is going on in this scene to make it so traumatic for her: probably because I am a long way from being an adolescent female youkai. I know that she is embarrassed about being an ero-monster, but her background is hardly a dark secret and everone important to her knows what she is and accepts her regardless. The way the doctors were talking it almost sounded like she was something they were creating - could that be it? And it makes me feel ill to consider this given the nature of this anime, but was it an implication that she was molested or something else horrible was done to her?

Her species is going extinct (the ero class).... so she's a rarity. The doctors wanted to examine her but I don't get the "bad memory" scene with the surgical tools at all.... I'll have to rewatch key sequences and listen closer to the japanese and see what I can catch.

It may have been as simple as a small child's misrecollection of an event... but...

At a guess I would say that it's detailed in the novel the series was based on and the anime producers assumed that if we are watching the anime we would have read the novel/manga already and know about the event along with a lot more background.

But I was also puzzled by the "bad memories" since it seemed out of context.

Over that scene with the doctors, she seems to say that a specialist cconfirmed that her race will die out. I don't think it's so much a bad memory of the examination, as that the exam confirmed she is a petopeto-san and that they will die out. Elsewhere, it shows that they fade out and disappear. I think that's what's so upsetting.
