Finally finished Sumika's route in Extra
....That's sure took quite awhile

Now,I must finish Meiya's route and enter Unlimited

Besides that,I also decided to download Alternative,JUST IN CASE if all the torrents get shut down by something awful.

Now I get the point that why Alternative took twice as much time needed to clear both Extra and Unlimited...(Holy crap,4GB worth of awesome and angst?)

"Oh crap", can't describe the actual events described in the game, but "oh crap", veterans of the games will know why. "Oh crap" is just vague enough to warn those about to take on the game. I felt like I have been kicked in the nads, having teeth knocked off by a knee attack, then stabbed in the stomach and having my intestines pulled out. Then getting strangled with aforementioned intestine.s I read that thing, I could not skip it, the music, the cgs, the the background noises and the narration by the voice actress. They all contributed to a powerful and SICK moment. Sick as in, "Oh god! Make it stop!!!"

Then Takeru, in another genre, would have let himself eaten by despair. But, after all the crap that happened to him in the past weeks... He did not. He stepped up the game and showed the readers what it meant to be a MAN. After, all the good, the bad and the ugly, Takeru did not give up on 00 unit. He accepted it all and did not let it change his sentiments. Because, more than ever, the future of humanity is at stake. And everyone needs each other.

Now, onto the attack on the base. It could not come at a worse time, right? This is where you could feel how a desperate battle have gone beyond desperate. How desperate may you ask? Desperate to the point that Yuuko-sensei ran out of options, as she got confirmed what she had been thinking all along, there were more to BETAs than just laser classes and their sheer numbers... However, when pushed in a corner, with the help of 00 Unit and Kasumi, Yuuko-sensei came up with a plan.

A seemingly tight and okay plan. But this being Muv-Luv Alternative, things bound to go wrong go wrong. When they does indeed go wrong, it is horribly wrong. As you can tell, many things will work against humans....

Long story short, the battle was won by humans, but Kouki gives you a taste of what a Pyrrhic victory is... To be honest, it's like each victory won by humanity IS a Pyrrhic victory and bring them closer to their downfall, unless someone and something help them to turn the tide.

With many friends lost, their TSFs busted, how could Team Takeru win this? Maybe, what Kouki meant to tell us, it is that courage and determination shines brighter out of the deepest despair.

(the tear jerker to me was that dream of Takeru, where Marimo, Michiru, Haruko, Mitsuki and Haruka gathered together to leave for good ;________; )

I salute thee, Hayase and Suzumiya. I salute thee you two UN guys. Get better, Misae, Akane and Touko.

ah... yes, we all went through that as well... I still remember the all-ages version for that scene. Takeru loudly screaming and lamenting his powerless self in that part was quite sorrowful. Mitsuki was definitely one of my favorite characters so it killed me inside and had to take a break for a few days.

Everyone that Takeru looks up to and wishes to learn from always dies.... Poor guy.... er... I think I'll stop now. No matter how many times I read the novel, I still get teary from just recalling those times.

And using the analog of Fan, shit hitting, Takeru is the fan. Shit has been thrown at it, buckets have been poured over it. Half its blades have been broken off and its covered in shit. But It Still Keeps Spinning...

Really, the mettle of a person shows in times of crisis. So very much different from his Extra self.

Sheba's final stretch in the Muv Luv Alternative Trauma Train

Last night, I left the game when the title drop for episode 10 appeared. I thought it could be a good point to stop before picking it up in the next day.

I woke up, at first I thought I should play Endless Space a bit. Then instead I picked from my last save. And I don't regret it.

Here I go. Operation Ouka have gone not as planned in a lot of ways. Let's just say that Yuuko's intuition, confirmed by the attack on Yokohama and Mitsuki's final words, have come to fructition as BETAs have not been behaving as humans expected them to do during Hive infiltration operations. This means that BETAs started using the tools used by humans for this kind of operation against them.

That atmosphere re-entry scene was fucking well done. And I felt wet in the corner of my eyes when I heard Takahashi's voice as he was about to shield Takeru's unit with his ship. Fuck you BETA, that was well played. They just have numbers and lasers for them, right? Wrong.

Back to Team Takeru. Let's just say that some of the girls managed to put aside their differences, even if it means kicking the bucket in the next second. To Kei and Class Rep's Last Stand, salute. Then come the following deaths, those were not less tearjerking. I felt anger when Takeru was shown what happened to Tama. Fuck BETA. Here is the interesting part, meeting with Target A. And from that conversation, all the feelings humanity could have toward BETA, especially desire for revenge, all of that rings hollow. Because BETA don't know the value of what they are destroying. All the culture and the history of Humanity, its joys and sorrows, this don't register in BETA's sensors. For them, Earth and humans were Tuesday.

Back to Operation Ouka, let's just say that Meiya's final moments were painful to watch, especially when you remember that she got friendzoned the days before. But Takeru have to carry on and destroy Target A. Which he did.

Now, on the aftermath. Takeru lost everyone close to him, excepted for a few. Is it really worth it? Yes, this victory that looked like it was a pyrrhic one at first is actually the first decisive victory for humanity. How it could it be decisive if there are THAT MANY BETAS outside of Earth (by many, I meant a soul crushing depressing high number)? Because now humanity have gotten the tools to fight back, thanks to the contributions (the equations, XM3 and many things) of Takeru. He bought humans time. And what is now important is to find out how to set aside the petty quarrels for power between nations, so they can make the best use of that time.

Takeru's time in Alternative eventually run out, so...

What's the point of the epilogue then? To show that Takeru earned it and that the war in Alternative is no more his. Takeru have done his part, it's now left to the rest of humanity to continue the fight. Takeru have suffered well enough, so he needs to rest and enjoy his sweet time as shown in the epilogue. I was so glad to see some of the people back.

Overall impressions. Muv Luv started as a cliché harem VN. Of course, you don't have to like it, but if you are playing it, you may as well start getting involved in the story, right? Unlimited laid out the canvas while pulling Takeru out of his comfort zone. He had to adapt or else... Alternative is without a doubt one of the best VN out here. But it is important to acknowledge that many things in Alternative will not have the same impact on you if you did not play Extra and Unlimited. It's important and better to play them than relying on getting spoonfed second hand accounts from veterans. Doing otherwise than experiencing the games first hand is equivalent to reading a plot summary of a movie or reading the TVtropes articles, it gives you a false impression of the franchise.

How I felt about Alternative?

It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo; the ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger, they were. And sometimes you didn’t want to know the end... because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was, when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines, it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you, that meant something, even if you were too small to understand why.

Because humanity is capable of awesome in its darkest hour.

EDIT:

Muv Luv main trilogy is one of the VNs that have taken advantage of the visual novel format and tropes, and build a story with those. It have taken the bold step to take the protagonists out of their environment and put them to test in another one. This is one of the reasons why I think it is memorable.
