Noooooot really. The problem with going up tiers is the fact that, costs versus reward aside, the distribution between good players and truly AWFUL players becomes really disparate among teams. Frankly there are a LOT of bad high tier players out there, and the MM usually has the bad sense of humor of putting them in your team.

6 matches away from true 53%. And I did all the important dailies last night (meaning my Tier 8s especially the AMX 13 90), so we can do tier 5s again this afternoon. Besides, it's the last day of the premium round sale, and I REALLY need the money...

Armor angling, weak spots, staying arty-safe, map flex, etc. are all so much more important than in earlier tiers. It's shocking how much of a difference a good platoon vs. randoms is at those higher levels. The performance gap between poor-average-great players is so huge.

I'd like to think that it's there's a 50:50 chance of getting a team with bad players, but in my experience depending on the hours, the ratio of bad players to good ones gets AWFULLY skewed. Last night for example I pretty much went through eight straight teams whose win averages barely went over 45% while I was using my AMX 13 90. Platooning seems to be the only way to keep out those types of players and help with your chances at eking out a win at times, and it has to be a 3-man platoon at that.

The near ragequit before MyssaLeo platoon saved me aside, it proved to be a very productive weekend. I now have a stock of 1000+ HEAT ammo for M4 and 1000+ APCR for the Super Pershing.
My stats as of now: Blatant stat-padding with the almighty derp platoon included. And the day's finest, and last match: "That E8 is badass." Erlenberg -- the snow and castle map -- Assault, Defense. Lonely Easy Eight fighting the entire eastern front alone even as the whole team went and died in the west, bullying 3 tiers 4 and brawling the Matilda BP (tier 5), sped across the south hunting down all three enemy artillery, swung north and took down a full health StuG from afar, narrowly survived retaliatory barrage from a KV-1S and a Matilda, dueled the Matilda before KV can reinforce it (arty took down the Matilda right after), taunted the KV to catch up, ran across the map again, and returned to scout out the KV for arty to get in one last shot at cap before our victory timer ended. Fast mediums are so much fun. |

I'll just plug my own link again, just because.
I suppose Crucial Contribution is difficult enough to get that we still received it despite Touma dying after tanking a ridiculous amount of damage. And it was a very good platoon session overall; enough so that ES and I decided to back away after we had won ten games in a row, with the overall session going into the high sixties. |

Had a pretty productive day, but the platoon decided to call it quits after we realized we had 10 wins in a row. X2s were done, event money was earned on my BT-2, T-34, my new SU-85, and IS-3, Crucial Contribution badge earned. Very nice.
However I did have one IS-3 game where I fired 12 shots, 11 hit, but only 2 hit for 0 damage. That was pretty frustrating. Damn you RNG!

I'm close to having Sixth Sense on the E8 and M4, on top of the BiA that both crews already have. SS adds a small feeling of non-panic when driving.
I have crews that could have both SS and BiA, but I didn't bother with BiA there yet, mostly because I wanted to max out other skill bonuses first. |
