ESPN has sucked for a while now. I don't put a single bit of stock into anything they say for ANY sport.

Well put. I'm not too crazy about it either but I like the fact that it benefits QBs that do more than just throw the ball.

I like it for the highlights, other than that I really don't care what their so called experts/analysts have to say.

Anyways, I saw it, meh what ever not a stats guy. the europeans are befuddled by our statistics fetish, it was so funny. The New York times put out a huge ass flow chart of stats for the world cup, expats were like "WTF"

I think Detroit is on the way up. They're definitely in better shape than the Vikings in my opinion, assuming Stafford stays healthy.

Hell, I think Detroit is in better shape than Chicago as well. The NFC North is a shitty division once you remove the Packers.

I'll never believe Detroit is on the up until they show that they can acquire a decent starter at quarterback. Same things goes for Cleveland.

...Stafford has looked like an elite quarterback when healthy, the Lions don't need to acquire anything.

Same goes for the Browns-- while McCoy doesn't have a canon arm, he showed a lot of potential last season leading his team to victory against teams like the Pats and Saints. What the Browns need are competent receivers.

Stafford has had a few good games I'll give you that. McCoy didn't impress me at all, granted he was a rookie and things may change. We will see. But I don't think it's safe to say that these two franchises definitely have their quarterbacks of the future locked in place at this point in time. The same thing even goes for Sam Bradford. All three of those guys have a long way to go and haven't looked "elite" yet. A game here and there where they may have had a huge outing doesn't change that either.

Anybody else getting worried about Jeremy Maclin? He's lost 20lbs from April til' now and he's missed all of training camp. It was also just reported that he's currently in St. Louis getting a lot of tests done. I'm really worried for him that it's going to be something severe. :-/

I'm a bit more optimistic based on most of the reports/interviews I've heard, but there is always that worry in the back of your mind that it could possibley be worse.

Come back healthy Maclin, the Eagles need you.

Well, its looks like that Texas A&M is going or close to going to SEC. It looks like it. But things does change and 22 Aug is still far away but it looks like D-Day is coming to NCAA.

49ers played terrible in their first preseason game. Although it was apparent what the lockout had on the team. With no minicamp and OTA's and just two weeks of training came under a new coach installing a new offense. The pass protection was just plain bad. New Orleans brought a lot of blitzes early on (that is what Greg Williams does regardless of preseason it seems), but at the same time some guys were just getting plain beat in one on ones. The starting defensive unit didn't do bad as it held New Orleans' starting offensive unit to zero points.

With players in his inner circle, Shapiro said he was often asked and never declined to give varying amounts of cash to a player who requested it out of need. Shapiro’s ex-girlfriend said the transactions would often take place at Shapiro’s home and that she witnessed him giving cash to multiple players while the two were together.

According to summary documents acquired by Yahoo! Sports, it was such a regular occurrence that one of the other defendants in Shapiro’s Ponzi case, Roberto Torres, testified to it with federal prosecutors. Torres, who was the chief financial officer of Shapiro’s Capitol Investments, told prosecutors he witnessed the booster paying Hurricanes football players in his Miami Beach mansion, and said he had “concern” Shapiro was being used by the athletes.

Torres has pled guilty to a count of securities fraud and is awaiting sentencing.

Shapiro also set up various “tournaments” where players won money for fishing, bowling and playing pool. And in the spirit of Luther Campbell’s history with the program, Shapiro said he started a bounty system in 2002 tied to both rivalry games such as Florida State and Florida, and also games against highly ranked opponents.

The system is similar to the one reputed fan of the program Campbell was alleged to be running in the 1980s, in which he reportedly paid athletes for big plays. That activity came under NCAA scrutiny during a Pell Grant scandal revealed in a federal investigation in 1994. Fifty-seven Hurricanes football players were named in that scandal.

Three sources, including two former Miami football players, confirmed that Shaprio offered bounties.

The booster told Yahoo! Sports he had a number of individual payouts for “hit of the game” and “big plays.” He also put bounties on specific players, including Florida Gators quarterback Tim Tebow and a three-year standing bounty on Seminoles quarterback Chris Rix from 2002 to 2004, offering $5,000 to any player who knocked him out of a game.

“We pounded the (expletive) out of that kid,” Shapiro said of Rix. “Watch the tape of those games. You’ll see so many big hits on him. Guys were all going after that $5,000 in cash. [Jon] Vilma tried to kill him – just crushed him – a couple of times trying to get that $5,000. And he almost got it, too.”

Vilma didn’t return a call seeking comment.
