The official website updated a bunch of pictures that the staff took in Brazil during location scouting. Interesting to get a feel for the show:

wasn't a lot of action in the first episode, but it was still damn good.

the opening is basically "TANK!" part 2

my non japanese summary:

the episode starts off with Michiko escaping from prison and robbing a bank. Hatchin is being bullied at the orphanage where she lives, and then runs away, only to hitch a ride back with the blonde Spike looking guy. the episode ends with Michiko grabbing Hatchin from the orphanage. there's a lot more to it than that, but i'm a gaijin so...

i didn't like the outro song that much, but the animation is really cool.

the only real complaint i have about the show so far is the main characters' voices. they don't sound right for some reason. i'm sure i'll get used to it though.

Wasn't a fan personally. The writing for the Hana segments was just so ridiculous that it was impossible to take seriously, and since that comprised about 90% of the episode...

Ep1 was interesting, and definitely unique. It's hard to tell where the series will go from here, but the animation and music are the most outstanding aspects of the show. I don't really have a problem with the writing, since from the very start the tone that is set indicates the series isn't really serious, and everything is about exaggerated actions and being generally bigger and louder than life. The setting and production values are interesting enough for me to keep watching for now, and I'm definitely looking forward to ep3 since BONES is doing that (with Kawamoto as the AD no less!). I hope the characters are interesting and likeable as the series develops though.

The blonde guy was Hatchin imagining the person she wish to come and pick her up and take her away from all her suffering. It didn't really happened.

I am looking forward for more of this, I think Michiko is pretty awesome and I am looking to see how her relationship with Hatchin develop. At least she must have some maternal feelings.

Watched it and enjoyed it I need to get use to Michiko's voice it sounds a lil deeper then what I thought.

I'll give it a 3.5/5

I loved it, despite some problems. The animation is wonderful. Hatchin's voice feels too old. The story is satisfying, but very nineteenth-century...

...with a mistreated orphan and evil step-parents and step-siblings. I had a bit of trouble taking everything seriously, as I wanted to, with the outlandish cruelty and the fact that the way Michiko drove off would have made it imposible for Hatchin to hold on. And with the story supposedly set in Brazil, I get a whiff of Japanese racism from the crumbling buildings and the incredibly evil "family," the father-figure apparently a priest. Nevertheless, Hatchin's final punch of her tormentor was incredibly satisfying.

I will certainly be back for ep2 and probably beyond. Michiko is a trip.

It's so bold and individualistic. I love it!

Presentation is awesome, really feels like Latin America. I really enjoyed all the performances, even if hatchin's seiyuu sounds too old, she doesn't strain to sound young and just captures mood and character so effectively.

Michiko is so badass, Hatchin is too cute this is definetly on my fall roster

Nice first episode. I don't think that Hatchin sounds too old given what she's been thru. It's lucky that she got out when she did since the violence was escalating.

Now they just need to combine the serious with the fanservice..

But yeah, Macademi WASshoi, Kemeko DX and the like seems to have filled the quota. And both of those shows are way better than something like Kanokon or ToLoveRu.

The main tall character looks to be descended of one of the of Caribbean Islands Puerto Rico, Cuba, Dominican etc.

actually they are latinas too. Hispanic is what you call people that come from countries that speak Spanish. Latino is for people that speak either of the languages that are offprings of that Latin
Language (spanish, Portugues and Italian).

edit:I saw how the USA defines Latinos, but that is the USA goverment definition for Census purposes.
the worldwide definition is for people that speak Latins languages. though i learned something new from the wiki article, I didn't think french was also a latin language.
