Define old mecha fans? Ones watching mecha shows since the mid 80's perhaps? Or were you not old enough then?

I enjoy Fafner and Aldnoah for different reasons. And I have been watching anime for almost 30 years.

Let's not get into the number-of-years-of-watching-anime comparison match. Different people have different criteria in what they like or don't like. Furthermore, you can like different shows for different reasons - just like you, I like Fafner Exodus and Aldnoah Zero for different reasons too.

p.s. If the age that you're showing in your profile is true, I've watched anime longer than you have been alive (more than 34 years - I'm in my 40s ) I'm quite sure someone will beat me in the number of years.

Spoiler for The Festum and Mir in the movie:
I don't know exactly, but based on introduction of this series (see http://www.xebec-inc.co.jp/xebeczwei...n20130322.html), a translation may be like this (translated with Google Translate):

Spoiler for Translation:

Another spoiler for Fafner Exodus (which may be used as one of the base of Fafner Exodus story):

Spoiler for Base of the story:

IMO, I think there is a connection with it. Since in the Exodus, they mentioned a new Mir named Altair will be come to the Earth.

Okay, another question is, where is Puku? Shokora needs a partner .

Very possible. But he was implying that old mecha fans dont appreciate shows like Aldnoah. His view was the one that was limited in scope, not mine.

Yes everyone likes what they like. But you cant just expect to speak for a generation of viewers. It doesnt work that way.

Ironically Miwa surviving the attack can also be seen as a result of her mother's wish

This is what I like about the Soukyuu no Fafner series. It's not afraid to kill off characters when the need rises but at the same time it also doesn't overdo it. This keeps viewers on the edge since we won't know for sure what's going to happen next =3

Though to be honest, my favorite parts in episode 5~7 is probably Mikamika's chuuni-ness and everyone else's reaction "So this really is educational material." "Uhmm.... yeah "
That's an interesting take. I hadn't considered that angle.

For me, I thought that something had turned Yumiko into a Master-type Festum or a Festum taking over her body/shape, possibly Altair?

Lol. For me, Mimika's antics and people's reactions make me laugh and cringe lol. Maybe cringe is too strong. I just have to turn away and not read her lines lol.

This is by far my favorite series of the season despite it’s almost nonexistence popularity... Such a shame.

Aww this is cute; in contrast with the Walkers that appeared later this episode. Wonder how many people will die soon...

So Minashiro Orihime is the new core name, has a nice ring to it. Anyway nice and slow development episode after the insane action last week, I liked the scene between Soushi and Seri with the fromer asking her with uber formality if she wanted a birthday gift.

But Fafner wouldn't be Fafner without both development and action so the stage is set for more great action next week.

Too bad the big fight was delayed, next week then...

The BGM this ep was just gorgeous. Lot of heartwarming moments, hopefully it doesnt mean next ep there will be lot of deaths...

The only thing that I felt off with the show so far that the pacing is a bit iffy with the moments of downtime/exposition in between the action as they move back and forth between the two locales. Of course, the experience might be better if the viewer just watched all the episodes in one sitting without the one week break in between.

Is this split cour then? The original news had 26 episodes planned. Or did they cut production and are only showing 13 episodes?

I'm not sure, actually. Yeah, I know the original news had 26 episodes planned. But, Xebec officially releases six Fafner Exodus Blu-rays/DVDs containing two episodes per disc (three episodes for the last one). So, maybe they only show 13 episodes of it. Let's see whether it will be splitted for two cours like Aldnoah Zero or not, because personally I'm not satisfied if Fafner Exodus just shows one cour.

If you look at the OP, there's scene Sein and Nicht launched (what we saw as this episode) followed by Sein and Nicht flying across Tatsumiyajima as the last part of OP. My guess, Xebec is planning for two cour with the first cour having Exodus in title meaning Kazuki and Soushi mission to escort Miwa (the key) and crew back to Tatsumiyajima.

13 episode is enough to clear the 'exodus' mission, but not if we're talking about the entire story.

Yes, I saw the opening scene where Sein and Nich were flying together, leaving Tatsumiyajima. I hope so.

In addition, angela will release a new album called ONE WAY on May 20th, which one of the track titled Sono Toki, Soukyuu e (Until that Time, to the Azure), will be used as an insert song of Fafner Exodus (http://www.starchild.co.jp/artist/an...scography.html).

-Proper taste of Sein and Nicht power
-New festum type
-New amazing insert song
-New ED video similar to season 1's with focus on Kazuki, Soushi and Maya

Great episode all around.

Best episode yet.... !

This is the type of action I like to see in mecha shows that makes it a bit hard to predict who will live or die. At any rate, the thing about assimilation seems to play a role for both sides now.

I'm assuming Kazuki's mecha will probably play a prominent role although imo not a deciding one in the ultimate outcome. It will take everyone's effort's to win this war.

And this symbolism...
