Anime that got you hooked

Alright, I don't know if this is exactly the right place for this to be but hey, I figured "general anime" pretty much covers everything.
I was just wonding which anime was the one that got other people craving more anime. For me it was Evangelion, a friend brough over episodes 9 to 26 and we spend all night watching them, after that I had to see more.

I bought the "Ghost in The Shell" DVD, and that set the trigger, then I rented "Dirty Pair Flash" and that pulled it. Tenchi and Evangelion set the maddness in firm.

Akira . I had been watching some anime before but it was Akira that showed me that Anime has much more to offer then american TV . I then started watching series such as hellsing , evangelion , ect ( plus random anime off of netflix ) I hardly ever watch normal TV now ... And I pretty much barf / scoff at the imbecilic sitcoms and "reality shows" that are on today . Whenever I get bored of anime ... I just turn on the TV .

After about 5 minutes of crappy acting , crappy plots ( if some of the crap can be called plots ) , crappy characters ... ah well lets just say after 5 minutes of crap I am browsing for anime again . Although there are some good non anime movies / series ... they are few.

The first anime I saw that I actually knew was anime was Wedding Peach. First subtitled anime was Record of Lodoss War, and I've been pretty much hooked after that.

There's actually a lot of similar threads about people's 'first' anime, and so forth. Then again, the 'first anime' someone sees might not be the one to get them 'hooked', but hey. For me, if Super Dimension Fortress Macross (edited, hacked up, rewritten, forced together with two completely unrelared anime into a still fairly decent, though nowhere near as good show called Robotech) wasn't the first, then it was definitely the one that got me hooked. I think Tetsuwan Atom (edited and americanized into Astroboy) was probably the first that I'd seen, the colour version that aired in the 80's.

Same here. Tenchi Muyo solidified my addiction, and after buying my first anime DVD (Rurouni Kenshin) all hope was lost

Sailor Moon! I didn't even know it was anime! Yes, that was a LONG time ago. But SM opened my eyes to many other series and even though my tastes have evolved it is still a fave of mine.
