Book-wise: Novel 10 is now 'officially being worked on'

Anime-wise: *that scene* was (mostly according to some posters) faithfully adapted, and next week should be the last episode of Sigh.

Looks like there won't be a cliff hanger ending episode this season, and whoevers prediction of a disappearance movie might actually come true.

Actually, I'd welcome that. At least it would be a different way to tease the fans about Disappearance.

I'd rather they just have an image of Haruhi spray painting over the word "Disappearance" with a strike-out.

This should be the Sigh's specific issue. There wasn't supposed to be anything in there and there clearly isn't any news in there. Remember how we knew the E8 news 2-3 days before it came out? We would have heard something already.

Though... there is an interesting piece of news in that one of the TV stations is listing Haruhi 26 as the last ep.

Here's a shot in the dark. What if the fall anime from KyoAni is actually the real season 2 that does everything up till the introduction of the Anti-SOS? That would be a truly masterful troll.

It is weird that KyoAni hasn't announced what they're doing for fall with only 3 weeks left.
They haven't taken a winter break since 2005.

They took a break from TV series between Clannad and Clannad:AS. (Summer of 2008)
