Unfortunately, in most cases life is cheaper.
Yep, my friend keeps telling me a story about how his senior at the law firm he works at, managed to reduce damages due on a fatal car accident by claiming that since the victim was one of 8 children, there was less invested value in his life

USS Enterprise has left the Mediterranean Sea and is on her final voyage home.

http://www.dvidshub.net/image/766842...rait-gibraltar

She will be scrapped...as will all the nuclear carriers (when they come up for retirement) from what the Navy is saying these days. Probably all the Supercarriers as well since the fight for USS Ranger was lost and will be scrapped in a few years as well.

This is a bit sad that they won't be able to preserve them (due to the reactor decommission issues). The evolving nature of airpower and the projection of it is making "damn huge targets" a little less necessary.

Once a historical item is gone, you can never get it back. Much like the older carrier Enterprise (CV-6) which was up to be a museum until they couldn't get funding and was scrapped. People have been kicking about that since 1958.

One cannot save everything, but keeping one of a item is usually considered wise for historical value. Keeping one of these carriers would be an item like that. And of the 11 US Nuclear carriers and in some respects the Supercarriers in general...Enterprise is the most historical of them.

Some think that if a Republican gets in the White House she might be saved, but somehow I doubt that, even if they go on a "American Military Perservation" kick in 2013. They still want to cut out the reactors.

I was always considering leaving them in. Hand them over to a state governement, or be part of some National Park and maintain the reactors for local power if they can handle being used for not moving the ship.

''A little less necessary'': maybe, but Washinton seem to use them like they did 20 years ago without hanging much .

I support that notion, sir, until a giant alien spaceship rise from the ocean and we are able to weld the aircraft carriers to it as arms!

Ecuador 'very concerned about Assange's health'

Quote:
AFP - Ecuador is "very concerned" about the health of Julian Assange after the WikiLeaks founder lost a lot of weight while staying at the country's embassy in London, a foreign ministry official said while in Moscow.

The deputy foreign minister of Ecuador, Marco Albuja, expressed his concern for Assange as he gave a briefing to Russian press after wrapping up his delegation's visit to Russia.

He is already 80 and probably does not have long to live. Give him a break and some loli maids.

Someone said that given that the high turnover rate of prime ministers, that asshat will try to get the damn post despite his age, and even then if he tries to play his usual rightist antics that POes everyone but his ancient anal-retentive fanbase, he'll not last long enough.

Savile victims allege pedophile ring existed at BBC:

"A sex scandal gripping Britain's BBC deepened on Wednesday with claims that a
pedophile ring had existed involving some of its stars, as its former director
general said his handling of the case shouldn't stop him becoming the boss of the
New York Times.

The BBC has been thrown into disarray by accusations it helped cover up sexual
abuse by one of its most celebrated former presenters, Jimmy Savile, and has
struggled to explain why one of its own shows killed an investigation into it.

The broadcaster's current Director General George Entwistle has been
condemned for his handling of one of the worst crises in the corporation's 90-year
history and questions have also been raised about his predecessor Mark
Thompson, who is set to take over at the New York Times Co next month."

"In a sign the scandal could spread further, lawmaker Tom Watson told
parliament a senior aide to an unnamed former prime minister might have been
involved in a suspected pedophile ring."

Japan's ranked in 101st place in Gender Equality ranking.

It isn't anything to be surprised about as long as the majority of politicians are conservative. I also felt they could change a few things around to catch up with the rest of first economy countries, I'd doubt it will happen any time soon even when Ishihara resigns completely. And I identify myself as a conservative but Japan seems to be on the far right.
