Seems like the volume cover, not the artbox.
Not sure If I like the cover (seems like little more than a cheap, five-minute foray in photoshop with the R2 cover), but it does get the point across that this is not just school-and-summertime fluff. Also, the picture's very small, but did they remove 'Higurashi' from the title? If so, good call. |

This here is the artbox:
http://animeondvd.com/forum/showtopic.php?tid/19180/ I pity the poor sucker who ends up buying it based on that art! |

Not really concerning you guys, but...
Editions Anima, the french editor which has licenced Higurashi for the french community in Europe has finally released the first 2 dvd covers : not really too sure about them, but they are based on the official covers anyway (though i don't get why they used the 9th cover for the second one...) the lil subtitle below of the original title is... Hinamizawa, le village maudit which is translated in english in : Hinamizawa, the cursed village frankly... i dunno if i should cry or laugh about this... French Trailer Warning : DON'T watch it if you didn't finish the first 8 episodes. why is that? because they moronicly add a hell lot of spoilers in that trailer. "stream" : http://www.editions-anima.com/index....=bande_annonce OGG (don't ask why they choose this encoding...). use righ-click, and "save the target as". DON'T direct click it, it won't work : http://www.editions-anima.com/itheor.../higurashi.ogg Translation, for you, doomed non-french curious : -a cursed village... -wild Murders... -a secret... -welcome to... -Hinamizawa, the cursed village frankly, i was speechless, and now i can say something : i fear the worst. the title is completely out of the whack (in fact, it reminds me of some low amateur undead movies, etc), the site is in a pretty bad shape, and the trailer is completely uninteresting and really spoilerish... and on the top of that... french dub... this is bad

Absolutely, this is the "official" trailer.
this is also the reason i fear the worst for the sell of higurashi in France, Belgium, Luxemburg, and other french speaking area. why? because it appears they will promote the series as a silly murderous/bloody anime, without any subtility behind. (i think the general public will get it as another japan animation cliché... or some "fake Elfen Lied with more lolis") i just hope that Geneon will react on this (since according the material copyright, Anima is clearly linked with Geneon as for the rights), otherwise... *huge sweatdrop*

I don't know much about Anima, but I trust Geneon. I think we'll get a good dub, but there probably won't be much marketing to it (from convention reports I've been reading, it seems like they play clips of it, but it isn't at the forefront of the advertising right now.) It's a niche series I think and if it spreads, it'll either be by word of mouth or the slim possibility that it hits Adult Swim or Anime Selects.
Though when I saw that French trailer you posted, I couldn't help but think of the opening music from Battle Royale from the way it was going! |

From what you say... Now I'm scared... >_< That was a real trailer... and a company connected with the company licensing it... Ah, well... Marketing isn't everything right...? It's the fans buying it and knowing what they are getting that matters more... I hope... Seriously hope that the dub will be better than thier trailers for marketing, that so would not sell it for me had I not previously seen Higurashi already.

Nah don't worry about Geneon, the link isn't really double sided, much more one sided (actually, Anima bought the licence to Geneon, nothing else)
but i hope Geneon will actually force at least an "average" marketing, or else, i guess Higurashi in Europe won't get nice treatments... i would be curious if Geneon U.S already provided any trailer / dub supply (Shakugan no Shana got some dub samples pretty quicky)
